SeniorNet, the world's leading nonprofit technology educator of older adults, announced today it has awarded a $2,000.00 sponsorship from the Charlene A. Francis Scholarship Fund to Saar Nepal, a Nepalese organization that is similar in mission to SeniorNet and dedicated to educating and maintaining the wellbeing of their elder population. In addition, Saar Nepal will be provided access to the benefits and privileges given to SeniorNet Learning Centers across the United States. This grant marks another landmark in SeniorNet’s international reach, after earlier this year hosting a delegation from China eager to replicate SeniorNet’s successful learning model.

At only 16 years old, a junior, in high school, it was on December 11, 2008 when Amanda Suzanne Brownell tried to take her life in a bathroom at Del Mar High School in San Jose, California. This was a result of the bullying, sexual bullying, and cyber bullying she endured through MySpace, Facebook, AIM, and the 3500 text MESSAGES she received the month before her suicide attempt. Amanda, suffered severe brain damage, unable to speak or care for herself.
After almost 4 and 1/2 years Amanda decided that her job here was done. She was hospitalized with pneumonia and seizures on March 13, 2013, while her parents were in Hawaii on vacation. Dr. William Perry is a professor of computer information systems at Western Carolina University and a computer network and information security specialist. Dr. Perry also serves as an associate research fellow with the Joint Special Operations University and for the Department of Defense.
He is the recipient of the Global Teaching Excellence Award and was twice awarded the Board of Governor's Innovative Teaching Award from the University of North Carolina.
