The New York Botanical Garden will host its annual Orchid Dinner on Wednesday, February 8. The historic landmark hotel, The Plaza, will be the stage for a magnificent showcase of orchid centerpieces created by the world’s leading designers from the worlds of fashion, interior design, landscape design, floral design, and architecture. During the cocktail hour, guests partake in a sale of exceptional and rare orchids carefully selected by NYBG’s curators and bid on exclusive Silent Auction items. All proceeds from the Dinner underwrite the development of the Garden’s orchid research collection, which helps maintain the highest horticultural standards of orchid conservation. For decades, the NYBG has remained a sanctuary for a renowned collection of orchid specimens, among which are included many species threatened by poaching, international trade, and habitat loss.

Lee’s Journey…

Lee studied at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to and received a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture with a minor in Psychology in 1990. Interior Architecture is a combination of Interior Decoration, Interior Design & Industrial Design only; it does not include an Architectural degree. Lee has over twenty (20) years of experience in the Architectural and Interior Design industries in both Europe and the USA.

As a self proclaimed “learning enthusiast,” Lee has expanded her skill set to include: Aromatherapy, expertise gained at the Tisserand Institute in London; Reflexology, as studied in both Europe and the USA; and Feng Shui, having achieved certification at the BTB Feng Shui Masters Training Program in New York City under the teachings of the Grand Master Thomas Lin Yun. In 2013 Lee earned her accredidation from the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEED Green Associate.

Lee now has a one-of-a-kind combination of expertise in corporate and residential design, plus the in-depth knowledge of ancient Eastern philosophies that create an extraordinary Holistic Interior Architectural approach for her clients.

Her boutique firm is located in Tribeca, where for the last decade Lee has cultivated a following of clients that value her unique methodology used in a range of projects, including full-gut renovations, smaller decorating challenges, and Feng Shui analyses of potential new properties. Lee and her team creatively and enthusiastically guide their clients through the design project journey in a way that is not only beautiful, but also insightful and fun.

Steven J. Backman, a San Francisco native, has been creating toothpick art for nearly 40 years. What began as an elementary school project has become a passion for creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces.

Steven recently restored a replica of the Golden Gate Bridge he made from 30,000 toothpicks and glue. Measuring thirteen feet in length, the sculpture will be on view at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco from April 9th thru May 30th, 2012. May also marks the 75th Anniversary celebration of this historic landmark.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is making this incredible toothpick marvel available for public display at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco. The hotel is located at 5 Embarcadero Center, San Francisco, CA 94111.

During a recent interview, Steven said that he is very happy his work of art is back in San Francisco to mark such a monumental celebration for the Golden Gate Bridge. It will be on permanent display at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf in June.

Steven’s passion for toothpicks has led him to create other amazing sculptures, including a miniature replica of the White House he created from a single toothpick. Steven is continuing his legacy by creating a new series of toothpick art.
