Not to be Missed 8th Annual Queens World Film Festival (QWFF) Announces 2018 Line up – “Spirit of Queens” Honorees, Venues + Sizzle Reel with Special Guests. 189 films to be screened over the course of this year’s Extended Festival.

Who- Queens native and this year’s “Spirit of Queens” Award winner Jan Oxenberg, along with Sandra Schulberg and the Festival Directors will be in attendance joined by over 50 filmmakers from this year’s festival, Investors Bank, NY Community Bank, Jacob Riis Settlement House and Central Queens NY.

QWFF Artistic Director Don Cato will introduce special guests (filmmakers, honorees, Sponsors and partners) and reveal this year’s Sizzle Reel for The 8th Annual Queens World Film Festival (QWFF) at the Museum of the Moving Image‎ (MoMI), in Astoria, Queens, NY.

This year the Festival has an extended schedule to run for two weeks March 15-25, 2018. Don Cato ‎states that “This year’s submissions increased by 43% and QWFF programmers screened hundreds and hundreds of films from 48 nations. This year we have 189 incredible films from 36 nations with 19 world premieres including CRUISE, by Robert D. Siege (American screenwriter: The Onion Movie and The Wrestler, as well as the writer and director of Big Fan) There are films from all 5 boroughs and a ground breaking 65 films by women, 14 LGBTQ themed films, 14 films by Asian filmmakers including the award winning Queens filmmaker and QWFF alumni Patrick Chen who is returning with his short Confucius Plaza.“

Each year, the Queens World Film Festival pays tribute to an outstanding filmmaker for his or her body of work. This year’s “Spirit of Queens” Award goes to Jan Oxenberg and the festival will screen her genre-busting Thank You and Good Night. Oxenberg is a Queens native and grew up in Bell Park Gardens in Bayside, where the neighbors included Richard Dreyfuss and Estelle Getty! On March 21, QWFF will give another 2018 “Spirit of Queens” Award to Artist, Activist, Filmmaker Vincent Gagliostro, not only for his insightful and riveting After Louie, starring the stunning Alan Cummings, but for the actions he has continuously taken on behalf of so many in the artistic community.

The Queens World Film Festival engages audiences with targeted outreach to the diverse communities that comprise the borough of Queens.‎ QWFF Artistic Director Don Cato ‎states that “this year’s submissions increased by 43% and programmers screened 611 films from across the globe—including Spain, Argentina, Canada, German, Iran, Japan, Switzerland, Ireland, France, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, India, Iran, Ireland, Dominican Republic, Italy, Australia, Nepal, Netherlands, Turkey, UK and the US – with 37 submissions from Queens!

Festival Sponsors include Investors Bank, Kaufman Astoria Studios, Queens Council on the Arts, New York Community Bank, Investors Bank Foundation and Queens Tourism. This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralized Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Queens Council on the Arts.

Tickets are now on sale for all films at the Zukor Theatre via queensworldfilmfestival.com. Films screening at MoMI should be live Feb. 14.

The Opening Night event for the Eighth Annual Queens World Film Festival will be presented by Investors Bank and will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Museum of the Moving Image, located at 36-01 35th Avenue in Astoria, Queens. The evening’s program will feature a block of stirring six, short films grouped under the title of “Emotional Punch.” The films are Atomic Mother, directed by L.E. Salas; You Deserve Everything, directed by Goran Stolevski; Bricklayer’s Poet, directed by Gino Cafarelli; Backstory, directed by Joschka Laukeniks; (Out) Caste, directed by Shilpi Shikha Agrawal; and Our Wonderful Nature, the Common Chameleon, directed by Tomer Eshed.

On March 25, ‘Best of’ Awards’ will be given in each category including Best Feature, Best Director, etc. with Honorable Mention awards in many categories along with two special awards from our new partners, The KODAK AWARD and The inktip AWARD.

The Queens World Film Festival is a program of the Queens World Film Initiative, Inc., a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization.

The conference was organized by Omaha Value Investment Group along with multiple organizations, including US-China Council that I am President of. The Conference will focused on Global and US-China cross border investment trends, opportunities and risks in light of the current U.S. economic and political climate. Isabella is a student at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. As a high school student at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, Connecticut, she was the Senior Editor and Executive Director for the Broadcast Journalism Course and received many journalism awards including Finalist at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth in Seattle, Washington, in 2013 for I Love You Bear. She also created four public service announcements, and two documentaries: Natural Disasters: Haiti and Striving For Greatness: Twin Lakes Farm. She is fluent in French and received the La Comtesse Nathalie d’Esterno Prix d’Excellence 2014 for excellence in French Studies. In addition, she has won many equitation awards including Champion, Saugerties Children’s Hunter Division, Saugerties, New York, and Top Ten, Low Hunter Division and Top Five Children’s Equitation Division, Fairfield-Westchester Professional Horseman’s Association. Isabella was also the President of the Cleats for Kids Club at Convent of the Sacred Heart and a volunteer at the Padre Pio Shelter, a shelter for homeless men in the Bronx.

Miss Isabella Maria Luisa von Habsburg-Lothringen’s father, the Archduke Geza von Habsburg-Lothringen is an internationally renowned author and leading authority on Fabergé. Forty-six women of distinction from the United States and abroad made their bows to society at the 60th Anniversary of the International Debutante Ball. The debutantes represented Austria, China, England, Hong Kong, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and twelve American states. Each debutante was accompanied by her own escort in white tie and tails, and a military cadet who carried the flag of the country or state which she represented. This year there were five sets of sisters.

Sponsored by Piaget, and The Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation the Ball benefits go to The International Debutante Ball Foundation which supports numerous charities. The primary charity is The Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club, a home away from home for the military and their families. Partial support will go to the American Ballet Theater, Friends of Versailles and the American Theater Wing among others.

The ball was founded in 1954 by Beatrice Dinsmore Joyce as a charity and the tradition continues today directed by her niece, Mrs. Gregory Scott Hedberg, Director and General Chairman. The LIBRARY OF AMERICAN BROADCASTING (LAB) — located at the University of Maryland — is entering its 41st year serving as the national information resource for the radio and television industries and the academic communities that rely upon it for depth and expertise. Its collections of historic documents, professional papers, oral and video histories, books and photographs are among the nation’s most extensive. LAB is evolving from a conventional library into a “homepage” for the world at large, reaching thousands simultaneously through the Internet. Industry outreach includes lectures, symposia, print and the broadcast media themselves.

The Library has been honoring leaders in the broadcasting industry annually since 2003 — its list of Giants will now exceed 149. Previous honorees include industry founders Guglielmo Marconi, David Sarnoff of RCA and NBC, William S. Paley and Frank Stanton of CBS, Leonard Goldenson of ABC, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Jack Benny, Philo Farnsworth, H. V. Kaltenborn, Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite, Arthur Godfrey, Paul Harvey, Charlie Rose, Ken Burns, Johnny Carson, Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Christiane Amanpour, Lowry Mays and Tim Russert.

LAB’s chair is Virginia Hubbard Morris, president of Hubbard Radio, based in Minneapolis-St. Paul; the president/CEO is Donald West, veteran broadcast journalist and former assistant to the president of CBS Inc.; the dean of libraries at the University of Maryland is Patricia Steele, and the curator is Chuck Howell.
