<p><strong>New York Climate Week 2025</strong> was a study in contrasts. On one side of the UN General Assembly, Donald Trump — the host country’s president — called the green transition “<a href="https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/cl/f/sh/1vWzjx4PrPoBTcAWbWzb7WR8SfKGGX/pMmjNp8BeoqE" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><i>the biggest con ever.</i></a>” On the other, more than 120 countries used <a href="https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/cl/f/sh/1vWzjx4PrRhB07TVAlRdTqFIpA70D3/UcuiFWS3HaQO" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">the same stage to raise their ambition</a>.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>It was raining new climate plans:</strong> China announced 7–10% cuts by 2035 and a six-fold expansion of solar and wind; the EU raised its target to 66–72%; Australia, Nigeria, and Pakistan set new 2035 goals; and a wave of smaller nations from Liberia to Vanuatu unveiled updated plans. <strong>In total, 49 countries have now updated their NDCs, covering a quarter of global emissions — with China and the EU set to deliver even more detailed plans ahead of COP30 in Brazil this November.</strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>And in a powerful twist, Colombia — an oil-producing country — announced it will host <a href="https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/cl/f/sh/1vWzjx4PrTaAWcmTjztfqA3TBetk9Z/EycKGOXOlnvl" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>the world’s first fossil fuel phase-out summit in 2026</strong></a><strong>.</strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Out in the city, the streets buzzed with thousands of business leaders, activists, and scientists pushing for more action. And thanks to our broadcast, more than <a href="https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/cl/f/sh/1vWzjx4PrVTA385SJELiCTrdY9gU65/00YZYbBGYhET" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>8.5 million viewers</strong> joined the conversation</a>.</p>

<h3 class="yiv4050498432default-heading3">The bigger picture</h3>
<p>History is clear: those who tried to block progress—the ones who fought the spinning jenny—never won. They won’t win this time either. One man shouting at the UN won’t stop the momentum. In fact, it may only fuel it.<br />
According to studies, <a href="https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/cl/f/sh/7xYEvjuEnJjtHRhrd1w5ja7gTkxxgXp/d40MBQ9ey9o9" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>89% of citizens now want strong climate leadership</strong></a> from their politicians.</p>
<p>But here’s the challenge: as long as this vast majority remains silent, we won’t hear about this progress loudly enough. And in that silence, the anti-science minority grows louder and more dangerous.</p>
<p>Just look at Germany:<strong> <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/26a0.png" alt="⚠" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> O</strong><a href="https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/cl/f/sh/7xYEvjuEnRWxJeyDiVbrTjupGe5DO9x/yUUI56aHxz7B" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>ne of Germany largest political party AfD recently tried to strip funding from the world-renowned Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research</strong></a><strong> (PIK)</strong> — one of the most respected scientific institutions on Earth. They failed, but their attempt is a warning: science itself is under attack.<br />
That is why it matters that <strong>we aired the </strong><a href="https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/cl/f/sh/7xYEvjuEnZK1LsEZnzHdDthy3XCT5m5/-P7MDtUm2t-5" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>latest science from PIK during Climate Week</strong></a>, together with <strong>Nick Oldridge, Co-founder of Climate Science Breakthrough</strong>, who plans to bring emergency climate briefings to the UK Parliament. It shows what the deniers fear most: science informing politics, and truth shaping decisions.<br />
This is why we must act. The 89% must step forward and defend science. We must raise our voices louder than the deniers. Louder than the lies. Louder than the attacks.<br />
This is what <strong>#MakeScienceGreatAgain</strong> is all about: giving attention to the cause, amplifying truth over denial, and building unstoppable momentum.<br />
We need you to be loud. We need you now. <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f49a.png" alt="💚" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>

<p>Next week, October 1–3, <strong>Pope Leo XIV has invited climate leaders to his summer residence, Castel Gandolfo</strong>, for a landmark gathering: <i>Raising Hope for Climate Justice</i>. By opening his home, the Pope is underscoring both the urgency and the moral weight of the climate crisis.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Among those invited is former California Governor <strong>Arnold Schwarzenegger</strong>, a pioneering political leader on clean energy, <strong>Bill McKibben, </strong>trailblazing climate author and advocate<strong>; Katharine Hayhoe, </strong>award-winning climate scientist and communicator<strong>; Bianca Pitt, </strong>leading voice for gender equality in climate leadership; and our very own founder and CEO,<strong> Ingmar Rentzhog, </strong>driving climate action from the business community and civil society.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>They will join <strong>faith leaders, Indigenous representatives, scientists, activists and business leaders from all parts of the world</strong>, forming a rare coalition united around climate justice.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>If the UN General Assembly showed that most of the world is determined to act despite obstruction, the Vatican sends an even stronger signal: <strong>the climate fight will only be won through cooperation that transcends borders, ideologies, and institutions — underpinned by science and moral leadership.</strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><i>We Don’t Have Time will be there to carry these voices far beyond the Vatican.</i></p>
<p>And you can be part of it, too: <strong>some sessions will be available to </strong><a href="https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/cl/f/sh/7xYEvjuEmgoS5ttOACnh39TmhfsTuPh/kJaQMiN-Vx0U" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>join online</strong></a><strong>. </strong></p>

Ben E. Hunter has recorded five studio albums in this pioneering new New Orleans genre: &#8220;Traveler,&#8221; &#8220;The Nature of Things,&#8221; &#8220;Break out Bold&#8221; and &#8220;Soul Avenger.&#8221;</p>
<p><a href="http://Benehunter.com">Benehunter.com</a></p>
<p>Born in Treme and raised in the 7th Ward, Hunter is most known for his legendary reggae performance and recording history in New Orleans as a regular and ultimately trend-setting performer at Café Brazil on Frenchmen St. for more than a decade before Katrina, he was the creator and bandleader for both, &#8221; Plantation Posse&#8221; and &#8220;Ben Hunter &amp; Crucial Roots,&#8221; producing albums including &#8220;Voodoo Reggae,&#8221; &#8220;Reality Check,&#8221; &#8220;Soul Avenger Live Intergalactic&#8221; and &#8220;A Freedom Song.&#8221; In the Big Easy, Hunter has headlined at Tipitina&#8217;s, House of Blues, Snug Harbor, Essence Music Fest, and performed at the New Orleans Jazz &amp; Heritage Festival for eight consecutive years.</p>
<p>Nationally and internationally, he performed as one of the headliners for the Bob Marley Festival Tour for five years, and at Reggae Sun Splash in Montego Bay, Jamaica.</p>
<p>After being diagnosed with epilepsy, Hunter dropped out of music a decade ago. Now fully recovered, seizure-free, and having overcome one of his biggest life challenges, Hunter brings forth a new New Orleans sound and deeper life perspective.</p>

Human ingenuity knows no bounds, and the monumental projects you&#8217;re about to see are sheer proof of that. While some have already been translated into reality, others are still in the planning stages. What they all have in common is the unprecedented level of ambition required to create them, the billions of dollars needed to fund them, and the degree to which they affect the lives of people that live in their vicinity:</p>
<p> 1. Pingtang Telescope, China<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/pingtang_telescope_china_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54666" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/pingtang_telescope_china_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/pingtang_telescope_china_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
The Pingtang telescope was completed in September 2016, becoming the world&#8217;s largest radio telescope in the process.<br />
Its dish measures more than 1,600 feet across and is capable of capturing signals more than 1,000 light years from earth. </p>
<p> 2. Gotthard Base Tunnel, Switzerland<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/gotthard_base_tunnel_switzerland_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54667" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/gotthard_base_tunnel_switzerland_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/gotthard_base_tunnel_switzerland_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
The world&#8217;s longest and deepest rail tunnel became operational in December 2016. It is 35 miles long, took 17 years to construct, and lies 6,500 feet below the Gotthard Massif, a mountain range within the Swiss Alps. </p>
<p> 3. Panama Canal, Panama<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/panama_canal_panama_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54668" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/panama_canal_panama_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/panama_canal_panama_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
The original Panama Canal, which was constructed more than 100 years ago, is one of the Modern Wonders of the World, but a century of progress meant that it had to be widened. Some 40,000 workers worked on the expansion project, and the completed canal opened in 2016 at a cost of $5.4 billion. </p>
<p> 4. The Bride Skyscraper, Iraq<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/the_bride_skyscraper_iraq_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54669" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/the_bride_skyscraper_iraq_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/the_bride_skyscraper_iraq_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
Who ever thought such a proposal would be possible? The 3,779-foot-tall &#8220;Bride&#8221; skyscraper is proposed for construction in Basra, Iraq.</p>
<p>If the name sounds familiar, it&#8217;s the site of the first battle of the 2003 US invasion.</p>
<p>The design is covered with solar panels, so the skyscraper will be able to power itself. It will also be the world&#8217;s tallest building if (when?) completed in 2026. </p>
<p> 5. Jiaozhou Bay Bridge, China<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/jiaozhou_bay_bridge_china_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54670" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/jiaozhou_bay_bridge_china_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/jiaozhou_bay_bridge_china_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
This 26-mile-long cross-sea bridge is the longest of its kind in the world, stretching almost 26 miles out into the open ocean.</p>
<p>When it opened, it cut the travel time for people traveling between east China and the island of Huangdao in half. </p>
<p>6. Itaipu Dam, Brazil<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/itaipu_dam_brazil_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54671" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/itaipu_dam_brazil_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/itaipu_dam_brazil_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
Completed more than 30 years ago, this hydroelectric dam produces more power than any other in the world.</p>
<p>In fact, its energy generation is so large that it supplies Paraguay with 75% and Brazil with 20% of their energy needs respectively. </p>
<p>7. Crossrail Project, London<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/crossrail_project_london_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54672" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/crossrail_project_london_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/crossrail_project_london_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
The largest construction project ever undertaken in Europe will see 10 new train lines added to the existing London Underground system,</p>
<p>and 30 existing stations connected via brand-new tunnels. It will begin service in 2017, and be in full operation by 2020. </p>
<p>8. Hyderabad Metro Rail, India<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/hyderabad_metro_rail_india_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54673" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/hyderabad_metro_rail_india_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/hyderabad_metro_rail_india_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
This railway system marks the first time that communication-based train control will be implemented in India.</p>
<p>With three brand-new metro lines for the city of Hyderabad, the network is set to open in 2017.</p>
<p> 9. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, China<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/hong_kong-zhuhai-macau_bridge_china_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54674" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/hong_kong-zhuhai-macau_bridge_china_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/hong_kong-zhuhai-macau_bridge_china_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
More than 42 million people live in China&#8217;s Pearl River Delta, and this gargantuan project will link its three major cities,</p>
<p>namely Zhuhai, Macau and Hong Kong, via a series of bridges and underwater tunnels. It will open to traffic in December 2017.</p>
<p> 10. Mall of the World, Dubai<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/mall_of_the_world_dubai_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="462" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54675" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/mall_of_the_world_dubai_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/mall_of_the_world_dubai_1-300x198.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
The proposal for the largest mall on earth comprises more than 48 million square feet of enclosed, air-conditioned luxury in the middle of the desert.</p>
<p>As part of the design, the largest indoor game park in the world will be constructed, as will 20,000 hotel rooms to cater to the 180 million annual visitors</p>
<p>that the development is expected to receive when completed in 2029. </p>
<p> 12. Riyadh Metro, Saudi Arabia<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/riyadh_metro_saudi_arabia_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54676" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/riyadh_metro_saudi_arabia_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/riyadh_metro_saudi_arabia_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
This $23.5 billion rail line will boast a flagship station designed by world-famous architect, Zaha Hadid.</p>
<p>Operation is scheduled to begin in 2019, and the railway will have 109 miles of railway on completion, revolutionizing how the residents of Riyadh get around. </p>
<p> 13. Songdo Smart City, South Korea<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/songdo_smart_city_south_korea_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54677" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/songdo_smart_city_south_korea_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/songdo_smart_city_south_korea_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
Built on 1,500 acres of reclaimed land along the waterfront of the South Korean city of Incheon, this smart city</p>
<p> was completed in 2015. Home to some 67,000 residents, it has near-comprehensive internet access and offers a taste of future urban life. </p>
<p>14. South-North Water Transfer Project, China<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/south-north_water_transfer_project_china_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54678" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/south-north_water_transfer_project_china_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/south-north_water_transfer_project_china_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
The Chinese have set about moving some 45 billion cubic feet of water from the mighty Yangtze River in the south of the country,</p>
<p>to the more arid industrialized north. They will do so via three canals and have spent some $79 billion on the project thus far.</p>
<p>15. Sognefjord Submerged Floating Tunnel, Norway<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/sognefjord_submerged_floating_tunnel_norway_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54679" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/sognefjord_submerged_floating_tunnel_norway_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/sognefjord_submerged_floating_tunnel_norway_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
Perhaps the most intriguing of all the projects on this list is a Norwegian proposal for building a $25 billion submerged</p>
<p>floating tunnel beneath the Sognefjord, the largest Fjord in Norway, which is 3,000 feet wide and 4,000 feet deep.</p>
<p>This radical tunnel will be the first of its kind in the world if the vision is realized. </p>
<p>16. Urban Renewal Project, Turkey<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/urban_renewal_project_turkey_1.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="525" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-54680" srcset="https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/urban_renewal_project_turkey_1.jpg 700w, https://goodnewsplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/urban_renewal_project_turkey_1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><br />
Turkey has incredible ambitions for renewing its urban areas. Over the next 20 years, the country plans to demolish more than</p>
<p>7 million buildings and build earthquake-resistant, modern structures in their place.<br />
The colossal cost of all this is estimated at $400 billion.</p>

<p>News Release Nov. 9, 2015</p>
<p>USCIS Will Host Naturalization Ceremonies to Honor Veterans and their Families</p>
<p>WASHINGTON—Veterans, service members and military spouses across the country will become U.S. citizens this week as they take the Oath of Allegiance at special Veterans Day naturalization ceremonies. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will highlight the sacrifices that military members and their families have made while serving our country. From Nov. 7-13, USCIS will welcome more than 10,000 new citizens in nearly 130 naturalization ceremonies across the country and around the world. Of those being naturalized, more than 255 are veterans, service members and military spouses.</p>
<p>Many current and former military members and their families are eligible for citizenship, including expedited screening and overseas processing, under special provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Since Oct. 1, 2001, when data collection on military naturalizations began, more than 109,000 service members have become U.S. citizens, including individuals serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, Germany, Japan and elsewhere. In 2015 alone, USCIS hosted nearly 175 naturalization ceremonies at military installations in the U.S. and abroad.</p>
<p>“On Veterans Day, we salute the men and women who have so courageously served our country and defended the freedoms that it was built upon. Among our brave veterans are thousands of immigrants, many of whom vowed to defend their new home even before they were citizens,” USCIS Director León Rodríguez said. “It is because of their extraordinary sacrifices, and those of their families, that we can enjoy the rights and liberties of living in this great country.”</p>
<p>USCIS has a robust military outreach program that provides information about immigration and naturalization to service members and veterans at military installations, Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals, universities and various military organizations. USCIS also has offices on multiple military installations, including Fort Benning, Georgia; Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. These offices identify recruits who may be eligible for naturalization.</p>
<p>USCIS’ Veterans Day activities this year will feature a naturalization ceremony at the USS Torsk and USS Constellation, located at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, on Nov. 11. During this event, Dan Renaud, USCIS associate director for the Field Operations Directorate, will administer the Oath of Allegiance, and Sgt. Maj. Mercy A. Diez of the U.S. Army Band will be recognized as an Outstanding American by Choice.</p>
<p>Other ceremonies include events at:<br />
· American Heroes Air Show in Orlando, Florida, on Nov. 7.<br />
· Cullman Performance Hall of Tryon Palace in New Bern, North Carolina, on Nov. 11.<br />
· Joint Base Lewis McChord in Seattle, Washington, on Nov. 13.</p>
<p>In addition, 12 recruits will become new citizens at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California, through the Naturalization at Basic Training Initiative. Developed with the Department of Defense, this program allows enlisted service members to complete the naturalization process during basic training.</p>
<p>USCIS invites new citizens, and their families and friends, to share their experiences from the ceremonies through Twitter and other social media using the hashtag #newUScitizen.</p>
