NEW YORK, NY — Alina Bonsell, candidate for New York State Senate District 28, announced today that she will be running on an additional, independent ballot line named “Jewish Safety” alongside her Republican candidacy in the November 3, 2026, general election.

The announcement comes as independent petitioning will start April 14 through May 23, 2026, during which Bonsell’s campaign must collect 5,000 total signatures to ensure at least 3,000 qualified signatures from registered voters across the district.

New York State Senate District 28 spans Manhattan’s East Side, including East 14th Street through East 96th Street, Central Park South, and Roosevelt Island.

“The Jewish Safety line is about bringing people together across party lines around something fundamental: safety, identity, and shared values,” said Bonsell. “This is about building a coalition that reflects the reality of our community, not forcing people into political boxes.”

Bonsell previously ran for New York City Council in 2025, where she built a broad base of support across the district and demonstrated strong crossover appeal among Republicans, Independents, and Democrats alike.

The creation of the “Jewish Safety” line reflects that same coalition-building strategy, aimed at engaging voters who may not align with a single party but want leadership that prioritizes safety, stability, and common-sense solutions.

For Bonsell, the issue is deeply personal. “My family came to this country from the former Soviet Union because of antisemitism,” she said. “Jewish safety is not abstract to me, instead it’s part of my family’s history and part of why I’m running. No one in this city should feel unsafe because of who they are.”

“To move New York forward, we need leadership that is practical, not ideological,” Bonsell said. “People want safer streets, lower costs, and a government that actually works. That’s what I’m running to deliver for my neighbors.”

With a compressed petitioning timeline, the campaign is mobilizing aggressively to meet ballot requirements and is seeking to raise $20,000 to fund staffing and operations necessary to collect signatures across the district.

“This is a grassroots effort with a clear goal,” Bonsell added. “If we want real representation, it takes real participation. I’m asking people across our community to step in, sign, volunteer, and help us get this done.”

Alina is running on the Republican line this election, but her prospects for victory increases if voters can choose her on an Independent, “Jewish Safety” line, with all votes on both lines counting toward her total. Over 5,300+ Actions Planned from Sept 21-Oct 2 to ‘End War, Poverty, Racism and Environmental Destruction’ as part of Campaign Nonviolence

Nationwide – Between September 21 and October 2, 2025, tens of thousands of people will participate in over 5,300+ nonviolent actions to protest violence, war, poverty, racism and environmental destruction as part of the 12^th annual Campaign Nonviolence Action Days.

Stretching between the International Day of Peace (Sept 21) to the International Day of Nonviolence (Oct 2), the annual effort rallies numerous national, international, and local groups to ‘build a culture of peace and active nonviolence, free from war, poverty, racism, and environmental destruction’.

Amidst concerns about gun violence, mass shootings, political violence, climate crisis, rising authoritarianism, war and genocide, Campaign Nonviolence brings people together in solidarity to work for an end to violence in all its forms. Local groups work to dismantle direct, structural, and systemic forms of violence using the tools of active nonviolence. Each group takes action on a different aspect of the broad vision, addressing issues such as immigration, discrimination, environmental destruction, health, poverty and more.

Campaign Nonviolence organizers affirm and advance the many viable nonviolent alternatives that exist, such as community safety teams, conflict resolution skills, peacebuilding, demilitarization, racial justice, restorative practices, self care, sustainability, renewable energy, living wages, civil resistance, and much more.

For 2025, people are invited to join the theme of “practicing nonviolence toward self, others, world, and earth”. The campaign calls for a range of nonviolent actions, including self care and wellness (self), community safety teams and violence de-escalation trainings (others), protests and visibility actions (world), and divestment from fossil fuels and weapons (earth). Two additional calls invite people to bring anti-militarism and anti-war leaflets to International Day of Peace events and to hold nonviolence teach-ins on Oct 2, the International Day of Nonviolence.

“The Calling” Film Series Tells the Surprising, Emotional Stories of Soldiers Behind the Uniform
“The Calling” is a new animated film series from the U.S. Army designed to profile the deeply emotional and diverse origin stories of five Soldiers as they make the most important decision of their lives: answering the call to serve.
The new series shows that Soldiers are so much more than their tough exteriors as it sets out to close the relatability gap between Gen Z and America’s largest military branch.
• Research shows many youth see the Army as a “distant star,” a place that requires a nearly superhuman level of discipline and excellence and is set apart from daily life.
• Similarly, many youth can’t connect with Soldiers and fail to see any commonalities in terms of interests, abilities, and goals.
• At a time of a widening military-civilian divide, “The Calling” makes the Army more accessible by bringing audiences into the lives and motivations of the people inside it: Soldiers.
The animated anthology is a distinct departure from previous Army campaigns – both for its arresting visual approach and its intimate portrayal of the people behind the uniform. By acknowledging that Soldiers are real people with their own hopes, dreams, fears, aspirations, families, friends, and obstacles to overcome, “The Calling” turns what was once a one-dimensional view of Army Soldiers into something relatable and more human. Rooted in the premise that you can’t truly know someone until you understand where they came from, the campaign shows that you don’t have to be born a warrior to eventually become one. Anyone can hear the calling.
Animation was a clear creative choice for “The Calling” because of its visual interest, narrative flexibility, and Gen Z appeal thanks to the popularity of events like Comicon and animated dances and videos. Animation also provided the opportunity to give each Soldier’s story a unique style and tone that underscored just how diverse each story is from the next. Through the expressive power of animation, the campaign conveys more than just events. It conveys emotion.

Dan Reynolds, lead singer of the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning band, Imagine Dragons, has earned legions of fans worldwide with sold-out tours and a string of chart-topping songs including “Radioactive” and “Thunder.”

While the band dominates the charts, Dan has been living with ankylosing spondylitis (AS)—a painful disease that most people probably aren’t familiar with—for more than a decade. Dan was diagnosed with AS in his early 20s, and three of his brothers also have AS.

Dan continues his efforts to make a difference in the lives of others by supporting several causes, including his work as an advocate for the AS community. Recently, Reynolds has been working with Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation to launch Monster Pain in the AS, a national campaign to raise awareness of unexplained back pain that may be AS.

For Dan, unexplained back pain is personal. After years of living with intense and unexplained back pain, Dan finally found the right doctor, a rheumatologist, who helped him find answers and a treatment plan that worked for him. He says this was “the greatest feeling in the world.”

This is why Dan is speaking publicly about his AS, in hopes of encouraging others living with persistent, unexplained back pain to seek diagnosis and care. Some 2.7 million people in the United States are thought to have AS and related conditions.1 But because it’s underdiagnosed, the numbers may be even higher.

Reynolds talks about his journey, the challenges living with unexplained back pain that may be AS, and how to find help. Reynolds will be joined by rheumatologist [Dr. Hillary Norton, who also has AS,] to share the signs and symptoms, her unique perspective on the disease, and the importance of getting a correct diagnosis.
