New York Climate Week 2025 was a study in contrasts. On one side of the UN General Assembly, Donald Trump — the host country’s president — called the green transition “the biggest con ever.” On the other, more than 120 countries used the same stage to raise their ambition.

It was raining new climate plans: China announced 7–10% cuts by 2035 and a six-fold expansion of solar and wind; the EU raised its target to 66–72%; Australia, Nigeria, and Pakistan set new 2035 goals; and a wave of smaller nations from Liberia to Vanuatu unveiled updated plans. In total, 49 countries have now updated their NDCs, covering a quarter of global emissions — with China and the EU set to deliver even more detailed plans ahead of COP30 in Brazil this November.

And in a powerful twist, Colombia — an oil-producing country — announced it will host the world’s first fossil fuel phase-out summit in 2026.

Out in the city, the streets buzzed with thousands of business leaders, activists, and scientists pushing for more action. And thanks to our broadcast, more than 8.5 million viewers joined the conversation.

The bigger picture

History is clear: those who tried to block progress—the ones who fought the spinning jenny—never won. They won’t win this time either. One man shouting at the UN won’t stop the momentum. In fact, it may only fuel it.
According to studies, 89% of citizens now want strong climate leadership from their politicians.

But here’s the challenge: as long as this vast majority remains silent, we won’t hear about this progress loudly enough. And in that silence, the anti-science minority grows louder and more dangerous.

Just look at Germany: One of Germany largest political party AfD recently tried to strip funding from the world-renowned Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) — one of the most respected scientific institutions on Earth. They failed, but their attempt is a warning: science itself is under attack.
That is why it matters that we aired the latest science from PIK during Climate Week, together with Nick Oldridge, Co-founder of Climate Science Breakthrough, who plans to bring emergency climate briefings to the UK Parliament. It shows what the deniers fear most: science informing politics, and truth shaping decisions.
This is why we must act. The 89% must step forward and defend science. We must raise our voices louder than the deniers. Louder than the lies. Louder than the attacks.
This is what #MakeScienceGreatAgain is all about: giving attention to the cause, amplifying truth over denial, and building unstoppable momentum.
We need you to be loud. We need you now.

Next week, October 1–3, Pope Leo XIV has invited climate leaders to his summer residence, Castel Gandolfo, for a landmark gathering: Raising Hope for Climate Justice. By opening his home, the Pope is underscoring both the urgency and the moral weight of the climate crisis.

Among those invited is former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a pioneering political leader on clean energy, Bill McKibben, trailblazing climate author and advocate; Katharine Hayhoe, award-winning climate scientist and communicator; Bianca Pitt, leading voice for gender equality in climate leadership; and our very own founder and CEO, Ingmar Rentzhog, driving climate action from the business community and civil society.

They will join faith leaders, Indigenous representatives, scientists, activists and business leaders from all parts of the world, forming a rare coalition united around climate justice.

If the UN General Assembly showed that most of the world is determined to act despite obstruction, the Vatican sends an even stronger signal: the climate fight will only be won through cooperation that transcends borders, ideologies, and institutions — underpinned by science and moral leadership.

We Don’t Have Time will be there to carry these voices far beyond the Vatican.

And you can be part of it, too: some sessions will be available to join online.

PEACE OUTside Campus Broadcast Newsletter

A Look Back at 2017….
2017 was another successful year at PEACE OUTside Campus. We accomplished the following things:

We produced a video version of our Teens ‘N Transition to College Program (TNTC).

During the Spring semester, we piloted the video version of our program (TNTC) to over 600 students at Academy of Mount Saint Ursula, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Clarkstown South High School, Pleasantville High School and the Save A Life Event at Lakeland High School.

Margaret Campe at the University of Kentucky was awarded the Lindsey M. Bonistall Research Fellowship. She is conducting research related to on and off campus safety with results to be published in 2018.

We held another successful Lindsey Run on October 1, 2017 at SUNY Purchase. This year, our premier community awareness event honored the dedication, service and commitment to our mission of: Board Member Althea Fusco, Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont and Congresswoman Nita Lowey. Former NY Giants, Ottis “OJ” Anderson and Stephen Baker “The Touchdown Maker” signed autographs and took pictures with participants in support of our mission and goals.

Looking Ahead…..
We are gearing up for some new research on prevention programming in the Spring, as well as our annual appeal. More information to come on our website and social media.

Good News speaks to Bert Askwith on his way to work at 103 years young. Bert is our Good News Business Leader of the Month for his tenacity and being a Good Samaritan.

Campus Coach Lines President and Founder Bert Askwith, Honored by ABA Board of Directors
The American Bus Association Board of Directors honored longtime motorcoach owner/operator and
industry legend Bert Askwith at its spring board meeting May 2 in suburban Washington, D.C. The
presentation was made by ABA Chairman Tom JeBran to salute Askwith for nearly 85 years of
continuous service to the motorcoach industry.

In March, Bert turned 102, celebrating his birthday by going to work in Manhattan where he is President of Campus Coach Lines. Bert founded Campus Coach Lines in 1928 while he was a student at the University of Michigan, taking classmates from Ann Arbor to the east coast at a fraction of the cost of rail travel. The company was so successful that he put himself through college with the money he earned. In 1931, while the Great Depression weakened the economy; Bert moved the business to New York City where it continues operations today, 83 years later.

During his long and distinguished career, Bert has served in a variety of high-profile national and
regional industry leadership positions, including a nearly 20-year tenure on ABA’s Board of Directors.
In 2010 the Board made him an honorary lifetime member. Bert also served as the first Chairman of
the ABA Foundation Board of Governors and continues his service to the ABA Foundation as
Chairman Emeritus. Bert also served for six years as the President of the New York State Bus
Association.

Bert is also known for his generous charitable contributions. Among his favorite charities are the
United Way and his beloved University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

In typical fashion, Bert is always looking ahead, and as he accepted the award, he told his colleagues,
“Thank you for this honor, I am looking forward to working with you for many more years.” ABA Board Chairman Tom JeBran said of his longtime friendship and associate.

AUG 2nd , 2012 NY, NY – In Celebration of the “Year of the Water Dragon” the organizing committee of the 22nd Annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York (HKDBF-NY) announced that this year’s competition is to be held on Saturday, August 4th & Sunday, August 5th, 2012. It will feature cash & prizes for competitors in this year’s US Dragon Boat Open Championship.
Other festival events consist of several new special Cup races, the Hong Kong SAR Family Invitational and the Hong Kong Business Family Invitational honoring the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Municipal Cup featuring teams from several of our elected officials and government agencies and the Health Invitational along with special youth, women and sponsor races, plus a Media challenge and a Charity race featuring $7,500 to be donated to the charities designated by the competing teams. The Charity Race participants include HSBC USA, DCH and Shanghai Commercial Bank Ltd. Each of them will contribute $2500 to put in the charity fund. This year’s Corporate Invitational looks to be a good one, with many Corporate Teams joining us to race for their company. The Festival will be held at Meadow Lake, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, New York rain or shine. Admission is free.
HKDBF-NY, a multicultural celebration and sporting event, is the largest multicultural Festival in New York and the largest festival of its kind in the U.S. HKDBF NY keeps up the age old tradition of Dragon Boat Racing in colorful, custom made teak boats, which are virtual works of art gliding on water. Custom made by a small coterie of craftsmen in Hong Kong, weighing one ton each, colorfully painted with a Dragon head at the front and Dragon tail at the rear, the boats are piloted by up to 20 crewmen, including 18 paddlers, a drummer and steers person. For twenty-one successful years HKDBF-NY has attracted a diverse, multi-cultural audience of more than 60,000 attendees throughout North America. With more than 180+ well-trained teams, involving more than 2,500 participants competing from across the U.S. and Canada, this year’s festival is expected to be notable in its scale and fierce competition.
With cash & prizes at stake for the US Dragon Boat Open Championships, the festival takes place over two days on the site of the 1964 World’s Fair, featuring events for the entire family. The opening day parade at noon on Saturday, August 4th will be followed by the New York City Championship Races. The U.S. Dragon Boat Open Championship will be held on Sunday, August 5th with the teams vigorously competing for their share of the cash & prizes.
Racing starts at 9:00 a.m. and events last throughout the day until approximately 5:00 p.m. each day, rain or shine. Other festival events consist of the corporate youth, women’s invitational, and sponsors challenge, a photo contest as well as presentations on the VERIZON STAGE of traditional Chinese arts, martial arts demonstrations, the traditional Dragon dance, musical and other diverse performances and demonstrations of folk arts and crafts.
This year we have a very special appearance from the Award winning Lion Dancers from Zhanjian, Guangdong, China. This team is the recipient of China’s last Lion Dancers competition. sponsored by the Chinese Association of Lion Dancers and Dragon Dancing Teams (a division of China’s national Sport Association). They will perform the colorful and exciting Southern style of Lion Dancing.
An ethnic food court and booths staffed by sponsors of the event many of whom will be giving away promotional items, and many community-based organizations participating help make for a unique, action packed, multi-cultural, New York weekend.
The tradition of Dragon Boat Racing is an annual Chinese rite commemorating the idealistic poet and reformer Qu Yuan who drowned himself in the third century B.C. to protest against his emperor’s policies. The locals raced in their boats in an attempt to rescue the poet. To prevent fish and water dragons from eating his body, the locals beat their drums and splashed their paddles. This was the beginning of Dragon Boat Racing.
