Heavenly Culture, World Peace and Restoration of Light (HWPL) hosted the Interfaith World Peace Conference event on Thursday, May 15th 10:00AM to 12:30PM, 2014 at Hotel Pennsylvania Skytop Ballroom 18th Chairman Lee, 84, is an internationally acclaimed religious lecturer and peace activist who has been featured in interviews with NBC, FOX, CBS, Azteca America and Telemundo for his campaign of peace in religion. As the Chairman of HWPL (one of the largest international NGO’s working to advance peace initiatives through culture, arts, religion and policy), he has traveled to over 72 countries in the last two years at the invitation of world presidents, high religious officials, and youth organizations to share his message of peace.

The 2014 New York Interfaith Peace Conference was a multi-faith symposium that gathered diverse religious leaders across the East Coast for the theme of ending religious conflict and beginning a new generation of peace. Ibrahim Sayar, Interfaith Director of the Peace Islands Institute, Brad Hirschfield, president of the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership and Swami Parameshenanda, leader of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha of New York were some of the attendees and speakers at the event. The program featured a historic peace agreement signing, diverse cultural performances, and a keynote message from Chairman Lee.

Chairman Lee flew in to New York as a part of his 10th peace talk discussions with religious and political leaders. Following the Interfaith Peace Conference, he met with over 25 ambassadors and U.N. delegates at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria in light of recent conflicts in Nigeria sparked by religious tensions.

The conference was also held for those who have expressed their commitment to attend and promote HWPL’s finale event, the World Alliance of Religions for Peace Summit in Seoul, South Korea. The summit, taking place in autumn, is a worldwide conference to gather religious and political leaders for peace. International media outlets are invited to attend.

At age 14, Allen put together his first stand-up routine and began appearing on amateur night at comedy clubs throughout the Los Angeles area.

Career
Comedian Jimmie Walker saw Allen’s stand-up act and invited the 14-year-old comedian to join his comedy writing team alongside promising young comedians Jay Leno and David Letterman. At age 18, Allen made his television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. One of his earliest roles was as a regular presenter on the NBC series Real People during the show’s entire run.

His show “Jammin” was picked up as “Kickin’ It with Byron Allen” in 1992, and by the end of its run had made the list of longest-running United States television series. Allen’s foray into television production began in Los Angeles in 1993 when he founded Entertainment Studios with the launch of his first series — Entertainers with Byron Allen—a weekly, one-hour series profiling the current stars of film and television.

In 2009, Allen launched eight 24-hour HD television networks simultaneously: Automotive.TV, Cars.TV, Comedy.TV, ES.TV, Justice Central, MyDestination.TV, Pets.TV and Recipe.TV.

Among the company’s top programs are: Emmy-winning Cars.TV, Emmy-nominated America’s Court with Judge Ross and We the People with Gloria Allred, Comics Unleashed, Comedy.TV, Beautiful Homes & Great Estates, Pets.TV, Recipe.TV, Career Day and The Young Icons. Awards
In 2018, Allen was selected for the Bloomberg 50 for his accomplishments as a global business leader. He was also selected for the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs at the Goldman Sachs Builders & Innovators Summit 2018, and he was honored as a Distinguished Guest Speaker at the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Luncheon in December 2018. In January 2019, Allen was a recipient of NATPE’s 16th Annual Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Awards, presented during the annual NATPE Miami Marketplace & Conference. Allen was also honored with the 2019 Whitney M. Young Jr. Award at the 46th annual Los Angeles Urban League Awards dinner.

Personal life
Allen married Jennifer Lucas in 2007. The couple has three children: two daughters born in 2008 and 2010, and a son, born in 2012.

In their efforts to advance prostate cancer research and improve the lives of patients, the Prostate Cancer Foundation found that American veterans are often underserved. PCF’s partnership with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) aims to create Centers of Excellence throughout the country that will bring state-of-the-art precision oncology care to veterans. Dinner guests graciously contributed in support of the exciting partnership between the PCF and the VA. The Barry & Daria Foundation matched their previous $2.5 million gift, committing, in total, $5 million to support equally both the Manhattan Campus for Precision Oncology Center of Excellence as well as a new campus in Florida. The 2018 New York Dinner was a momentous occasion celebrating the generosity of various supporters, constituencies and stakeholders.

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s impact on cancer research and people’s lives. Throughout the years, PCF has enacted several programs and initiatives to save lives, improve the quality of life for those affected, develop precision disease detection leading to better treatments, bring awareness while encouraging action, cultivate talent, build a global funding engine and create a scientific model for curing cancer.

New York, NY (April 25, 2018) – Daisy Expósito-Ulla, Chairman/CEO of d expósito & Partners, was inducted into the 69th Annual Advertising Hall of Fame® at a Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony on Tuesday, April 24th, 2018 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The AAF Hall of Fame is undoubtedly the highest honor bestowed by America’s Advertising Industry and it recognizes the most accomplished and legendary figures in advertising, bringing together the industry to celebrate the Biggest Night in Advertising.

She received the award from Cesar Conde, Chairman, NBCUniversal International Group and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.

During the ceremony, a 3-minute career highlight video presented the remarkable achievements of Daisy Expósito-Ulla, a pioneer and a recognized authority in multicultural marketing and brand communications. Besides having received numerous industry and creative awards (Clio, Effie, Addy, ADCOLOR Lifetime Achievement Award among others), she is consistently acknowledged as one of the Most Influential Latinos in the U.S.A. Her participation on boards includes the Ad Council, the AEF, and the 4A’s Foundation and she is a founding member of AHAA (The Association of Hispanic Ad Agencies) now known as Culture Marketing Council and served as its president.

Among her enormous contributions to the betterment of society outside her professional career, she has worked tirelessly to support the people and causes she cares deeply about.

At the gala ceremony dinner, she also accepted the David Bell Award for Industry Service, awarded to recognize extraordinary and unique contributions and service to the advertising community and industry as a whole. The award is named in honor of David Bell (Hall of Fame Class of 2007), a visionary leader and mentor to several generations of advertising professionals.

Expósito-Ulla, a well-known powerhouse of creativity, business-building and industriousness, has been widely recognized as a pivotal architect of the Hispanic Market in the United States. Her pioneering efforts for the industry started at an early age when the market was significantly smaller from what it is today.

Thank you, David. I’m honored to receive this award that bears your distinguished name. Cesar, thank you for your kind introduction and for the committed participation of the Comcast/ NBC- Universal /Telemundo family.

Thank you to the Council of Judges of the AAF and to those who endorsed my nomination, starting with hall-of-famer Eduardo Caballero and concluding with my friend Marc Strachan.

To be among tonight’s inductees feels like I’m a character in one of those simulations Elon Musk always seems to talk about. It is surreal, to say the least. I’m humbled to be in your company. I also think of past inductees, from titans I studied and never got to know, to friends I was lucky to make along the way, like Teresa Zubizarreta.

You know, I don’t say any of this stuff purely as a gesture of humility. The fact that I ended up on this stage truly is improbable: As Peter Georgescu has said, I, like him, was an almost “off the boat” refugee in America. Growing up in Queens, the world-outside-my-world seemed like a beautiful fish bowl in which “other fish” got to do the swimming. I was an immigrant. I was a minority. And I was a woman of color.

Propelled by my parents’ examples of tenacity, I somehow made my way into the ad agency world. I’m glad the path led to Culture Advertising. This was at a time when the demographics of the country were shifting, and Madison Avenue still hadn’t quite realized what was going on. But a few independent pioneers in the Hispanic Market saw an opening – and so did Ed Ney, who created a division called Bravo at Y&R. That was my break, and I had no idea it would become what it did.

All I know is that without mentors like Bill Green and Nancy Smith, who are here tonight, it wouldn’t have happened.

And of course, it wouldn’t have been possible if we didn’t approach our work with a sense of respect, soul and authenticity – fully embracing the beautiful, singular otherness of our consumer. We were about diversity and inclusion, about truly mirroring the country- even in the face of what I will gently call “doubt.”

The merits of the approach became evident in the results.

Tonight, I share this recognition with the team at our agency and particularly with my partners: Gloria, John, Fernando, Louis and Paco: I’ve been working with some of you for decades! My gratitude to my industry colleagues and to the Hispanic media. To my client partners, thank you for making the journey possible. I wouldn’t be standing here without your trust: Edna, Yvette, Annie, Paul, Lisa, Lorraine…

Personally, I’m grateful to be married to Jorge Ulla, a talented and supportive man who tends to believe in me more than I often do myself. I’m grateful for my son, Gabe, a brilliant writer- proud of you. I’m grateful for my sister Maritza, her husband Steve, and my 93-year- old mother Narcisa, here tonight. She still lives in the Queens apartment where we settled after arriving from Cuba. She keeps us grounded and laughing. And I’m grateful for the lessons of my father, who I like to think is watching me right now.

Finally, if you don’t mind my ending on a lofty note, I’ll say this: I am an immigrant. I am a product of Brand America. And so, I would be remiss if I were to accept this induction at this time in our history without emphasizing the importance of keeping the spirit of this generous country alive.

It is with mixed emotions that the Board of Trustees acknowledges President John Lahey’s recent announcement that he will retire in June 2018. We want to thank him for his extraordinary service to Quinnipiac during these past 30 years. We would like to highlight a few of his many accomplishments.

The university has grown from 1,902 students when John arrived in 1987 to approximately 10,000 today. Then Quinnipiac College, today it is a major university with a college of arts and sciences and eight professional schools: business, communications, education, engineering, health sciences, law, medicine and nursing. The Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine graduates its inaugural class next month. His leadership has resulted in a rise in academic excellence, national prominence and highly evolved student engagement initiatives.

John also has overseen the growth of the physical plant from one to three campuses in two towns: the Mount Carmel Campus, the York Hill Campus, and our newest campus in North Haven that houses most of the graduate programs.

A special point of pride is the Polling Institute, which over the years has grown from a small, local operation polling in Connecticut to an internationally recognized poll that today conducts polls in 11 states, New York City and nationally. There are many other institutes that have been created during John’s tenure, including the Albert Schweitzer Institute and three in the School of Medicine in primary care, rehabilitation medicine and global public health. A newly formed Ireland’s Great Hunger Institute joins Ireland’s Great Hunger Museum, opened in 2012.

And finally, the university’s athletic programs took a major leap when, under John’s leadership, they moved from Division II to Division I athletics, building a new sports center on York Hill, and elevating basketball and ice hockey to the national stage.

President Lahey has the Board’s full support during this next year. As trustees, our responsibility now is to ensure that we seek the most highly qualified, talented and experienced individual to lead the University in the coming years. We are deeply committed to doing so and, to that end, have engaged the services of Spencer Stuart, a global executive search firm based in Chicago. The firm is uniquely qualified to assist us, having conducted more than 300 senior-level executive and board searches over the past five years.

Representatives from the firm’s Stamford, Connecticut office will be on campus in May to meet with faculty, staff and students and thus help the trustees learn what qualities and experience the Quinnipiac community wishes to see in its next president.

Again, I extend my deepest appreciation to John and his wife, Judy, for their exceptional service to Quinnipiac University and wish them much happiness in the years ahead.

The event began Monday night with a cocktail reception at 5:30 pm where a dozen best-selling business authors were on hand to share their books and wisdom.
