Robert D. Hicks, PhD, former Director of the Mütter Museum in Philadelphia and author of WOUNDED FOR LIFE: Seven Union Veterans of the Civil War?

In an interview, he will talk about how this topic relates to those that are disabled today.

He can also discuss the changing social circumstances of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and how that impacted the veterans. Wounded for Life is equal parts Civil War history, disability history and the history of the body. The collective experiences of the veterans profiled in the book show how they dealt with common expectations of manhood or masculine identity after the injuries.

Dr. Hicks will share insight into this era of history through humanizing the intimate lives of disabled veterans.
