“Boys Wanna Get With Me, Girls Wanna Get With Me,” a solo exhibition of new works on canvas

by painting powerhouse Sandy Cohen whose title is an ode to her late sister Fame, opens the

Summer 2025 season with previews beginning May 24th .

Istanbul’s own Pinar Hakim will be in attendance for a personal appearance and a Pinar Hakim

Jewellery trunk show beginning June 7 th when the gallery will host a celebratory champagne

reception in honor of the two artists from 5-7pm. Music by DJ Chili. A portion of the opening

evening’s proceeds benefits the American Heart Association. Sandy Cohen exhibition runs through

June 15th .

Sandy Cohen holds the distinction of being – at the age of eight – the youngest student enrolled in a

college level art program at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. She has been formally trained

in paint, water color, mixed media, sculpting and photography. Her work often references Disney and

Tex Avery characters that tell a story with an underlying message reflecting current social conditions.

She has shown at Art Basel, with the Oliver Cole Gallery and Soho Ink. Her work has been exhibited

at the Museo de Arte y la Cultura de Santa Fe in Medellin, Columbia and is collected by the Royal

Family of Morocco, the Stern Family, et al.

Pinar Hakim is an internationally acclaimed designer based in Istanbul whose fine jewelry collection

references nature with a Boho chic, vintage vibe. Formerly one of Istanbul’s most respected antique

dealers, Pinar transitioned to designing jewelry in 2010. Additionally, Hakim is a globally recognized

glass artisan who creates table top for the world’s leading design houses including Christian Dior,

House Of Rothschild, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, et al. Her lampwork beads have earned her a spot in

“The History Of Beads From 30,000 B.C. To The Present”” By Lois Sherr Dubin, published by

Thames & Hudson. .

Mission
The three main goals of Les Couleurs Charity are to inspire, educate and
empower children who come from underprivileged socio-economic backgrounds
and have very few educational opportunities to thrive. With our CREATE
Program, we give them the tools to unleash their wonderful creative energy,
make them feel empowered and appreciated, and teach them skills that will
create artistic opportunities or careers for them. Children thus inspired
feel and express so much joy and it tremendously helps their overall
cognitive development as well. Our group arts projects make children create
stronger bonds with each other and yet it also enhances their individual
talents and skills. As a result, we strongly believe that our CREATE program
makes a big difference in the lives of those children. Looking at the happy
faces, seeing their art and hearing their stories, makes us feel inspired
every day to continue developing and expanding our mission.

Philosophy
We believe that to achieve a long lasting change and to break a cycle of
poverty we should in children’s education, because they are the future. We
believe in strong local partnerships and understanding the needs of the
communities we serve. We collaborate with local schools, orphanages and
share the best and most efficient practices.

We invest into the training of our local teachers so the can provide better
quality education to the children they work with. Our teachers are trained
by local professionals and become role models and mentors to the most
disadvantaged children. That way we create a cycle of continuous learning
that trickles down from local educated professionals all the way to the most
vulnerable children.

The Orchid Show celebrates its 15th year at The New York Botanical Garden with an homage to the wealth of orchids and rich cultural history of Thailand. Thailand is home to more than 1,200 native orchid species and over the last century it has become the leading exporter of cultivated tropical orchids in the world. Native and hybrid orchids alike have become synonymous with the nation.
This year’s exhibition in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory will feature an astonishing array of blooming orchids in a lush tropical garden, including a rainbow of vanda orchids, whose large patterned blooms are widely popular in Thai gardens and homes. The show culminates in a jaw-dropping scene of a large arched façade in the style of a traditional Thai pavilion—festooned with hundreds of exquisite orchids. Thai dance performances, film screenings, tours, orchid care demonstrations, expert Q&As, and more fill the daylight hours, while the return of our popular Orchid Evenings ensures many memorable celebrations after the sun has set.

Artist Statement
My work is a play between the conscious and the subconscious mind. My objective is to achieve a space that is intuitively balanced in light, color and motion. One that speaks to our strength, vulnerability, and our awakening within. I am fascinated with exploring the contrasts in my paintings, the transparent versus the opaque, flatness versus density, big open, loose marks versus stillness. All these disparate and yet harmonious elements together create light and reflection on the Plexiglass surface.

Because I paint in reverse on Plexiglass, there is always an element of surprise. I work back and forth, painting on the back surface, examining the front surface, continuously creating layers of color and movement. I am inspired by the words of the 13th Century Sufi poet, Rumi, “out beyond wrong doing and right doing there is a field of luminous consciousness. I’ll meet you there.”

OASIS Adaptive Sports, Inc. (Outdoor Adventures for Sacrifice in Service) is a non-profit organization offering instruction, equipment and support to disabled military veterans in a variety of sports activities. We assist these veterans in reconnecting and resuming productive lives in society through participation in outdoor recreational activities that promote independence, and social and emotional well-being. Our mission is to do everything possible to make each outdoor experience meaningful and thereby help the veteran regain physical and mental health, with formal evaluations done by professionals in these fields. We differ from other organizations offering primarily event-type outdoor experiences to veterans by adding an evaluation and an advocacy phase to each veteran’s participation in each of our programs.
OASIS Adaptive Sports, Inc. is located in the Finger Lakes Region of western New York State, and our intent is to serve the needs of disabled veterans in the Rochester Metropolitan Statistical Area (RMSA), which includes Monroe, Livingston, Orleans, Ontario, Wayne and Genesee counties.
