“Most companies have not changed their business model to fully embrace the impact social and mobile have had on consumer interaction, nor have they taken advantage of technical advances that could significantly improve the customer experience and their own bottom line,” said business thought leader and author, David Giannetto. “It’s imperative they change how they play the game and starting using these digital initiatives to create tangible results. Technology and methodology must be blended together, one enabling the other to meet the evolving demands of a new social consumer in a new social economy. Janrain is exactly the type of company facilitating this change.”
In the book, Giannetto explains how the ease with which today’s consumer move seamlessly between the physical and digital environments they inhabit creates an exponentially more complex relationship between them and the companies seeking to turn them into customers. However, technology, when used properly, allows companies to overcome these challenges. Janrain does this by simplifying the complexity, enabling companies to truly understand their customers and personalize every interaction via social login. This allows companies to acquire new consumer information and recognize these consumers across all digital mediums and devices, collecting accurate customer profile data that drives marketing effectiveness through improved segmentation, personalization, targeting and interaction.
“Consumers are bombarded with irrelevant information and offers, with nearly half ignoring or abandoning a brand after receiving just two mistargeted communications. As a result, companies must deliver tailored experiences for each and every customer,” said Larry Drebes, Founder and CEO of Janrain. “David Giannetto understands the complex landscape and how Janrain delivers increased interaction and engagement with consumers.”
The future of how enterprises operate, market and interact with their consumers is changing. Where the industry once relied solely upon sales transactions and customer relationship management updates, they must now create consistent and personalized marketing messages and customer experiences from one interaction to the next, across both digital and physical touchpoints. BIG SOCIAL MOBILE not only explains the benefits and risks, the tools and techniques, but also provides a step-by-step program for how companies can become Big Social Mobile Enterprises.
Partnerships with Portrait Displays and Marseille Networks take consumer
viewing experience to a dramatic new level

Paris (France) & Hollywood (CA) – June 20, 2013 – Technicolor, a worldwide technology leader in the media and entertainment sector, is leveraging its expertise in Hollywood color and imaging science, to deliver improved viewing experiences for consumers at home and on-the-go. Technicolor has teamed up with Portrait Displays (www.portrait.com) to create a Color Certification process that guarantees the color quality on any computer or mobile device display and has awarded the first 4K Image Certification to Marseille Networks (www.marseilleinc.com) for its system on chip to deliver stunning content on 4K televisions.

With these two certification programs, Technicolor is providing solutions to critical issues – inconsistent color accuracy on computer and mobile devices and the lack of content for viewing on 4K televisions. “Our expertise in working with Hollywood and our desire to deliver outstanding content drove us to develop the Color and Image Certification processes,” said Manuele Wahl, SVP, Technology Licensing, Technicolor. “We spend hundreds of hours to ensure color perfection on movies and we wanted to find a way to guarantee that consumers are seeing the content as the director intended, no matter what device they are using. Plus, our partnership with the studios and device manufacturers ideally positions Technicolor to help spearhead consumer acceptance of 4K,” she added.

By working with two Silicon Valley companies, Technicolor is capitalizing on their expertise and relationships. “Portrait has two decades of experience in color technology, licensing color control software to more than 25 of the leading worldwide manufacturers of computing products including monitors, laptops, notebooks, and all-in-one computers, stated Wahl. “Marseille is an innovator in video processing, compression and networking technology and is the clear leader with expertise in up-scaling content from SD to HD and from 2K to 4K.”

Importance of Color Accuracy
Accurate color representation is more important than ever given the wide variety of content—including video content from streaming media services, Blu-ray discs, and photos featuring diverse color settings. Consumers are viewing a significant percentage of their content on computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones, which do not deliver the true rich colors as intended by the Hollywood artist, thus reducing their enjoyment. Additionally, e-commerce also suffers from color inconsistencies as the color of the item purchased often is not the same as depicted on the screen.

“While today’s displays are dramatically improved for a superior visual experience, there is significant color inconsistency across the many types, resulting in oversaturated, washed out or simply incorrect colors—a substandard viewer experience, explains Portrait Displays President & CEO J. Michael James. “When a display has gone through the Technicolor Color Certified process, consumers will know that they are buying a product that delivers accurate color and they can be confident in their purchase.”

Technicolor Color Certified will be a differentiator for device manufacturers looking to sell more features and will help generate increased revenues for e-commerce retailers by reducing merchandise returns.

Upscaling HD content for true 4K viewing
Today’s film studios use 4K as the native format for production of Hollywood movies, and it will eventually become the content standard for the new generation of 4K TVs. In the meantime, while the industry transition to native 4K content is underway, it’s critical that consumers also be able to enjoy the benefits of 4K TV for their existing HD content libraries. In addition, entertainment content that consumers watch on their TVs increasingly comes from a multiplicity of sources beyond cable, satellite and over-the-air connections. DVD and Blu-ray players, streaming media players, laptops and desktops, game consoles, set-boxes and more bring a diverse video and graphics viewing experience. However, the variety of different video resolutions, frame rates, and compression formats from these sources results in uneven levels of quality, which are particularly evident when viewing on a 4K TV. Technicolor’s Image Certification initiative addresses this dilemma.

With Technicolor 4K Image Certified products, consumers can be confident of a 4K source device’s ability to deliver a stunning 4K Hollywood movie experience in the home from their existing HD content. Technicolor has certified the performance of Marseille’s technology in identifying key characteristics of incoming video and the quality of the resulting processed and up-scaled output video stream without injecting image damaging artifacts. The Marseille Networks VTV-122X family of video processors provides unparalleled image enhancement and 4K upscaling for source devices such as Blu-ray players, streaming media devices, and other consumer electronic products to ensure optimal 4K viewing.

“We are pleased to be the only company to pass Technicolor’s rigorous 4K image certification testing and have our VTV-122X family of video processors ’Technicolor 4K Image Certified’. This is an important independent validation of the depth of our video processing expertise. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of our virtual silicon development methodology, which enables us to deliver world class products that delight our customers and the market,” explained Marseille Networks President and CEO Amine Chabane. “The result is stunning quality for everything 4K including photographic quality still images, clear crisp menus and graphics, and most importantly full-motion video that creates the Hollywood movie experience at home with HD content. We see the designation of ’Technicolor 4K Image Certified’ as a key point of market differentiation for consumer electronics manufacturers and a significant benefit to consumers for identifying and selecting the best performing 4K video products.”

Roku Breaks the Smart TV Mold
New Roku Streaming Stick Integrates “Smart” Experience into TVs Instantly

Saratoga, Calif. – Jan. 4, 2012 – Building on the success of the award-winning Roku streaming players, Roku® today unveiled a new solution to make a better Smart TV. The new Roku Streaming Stick is a wireless device about the size of a standard USB flash drive that will plug into a TV to instantly transform it into a Smart TV. The Roku Streaming Stick will feature built-in WiFi, processor, memory and software to deliver Roku’s growing collection of streaming entertainment. With the Roku Streaming Stick, these new Smart TVs allow consumers to enjoy a fully integrated high-definition streaming experience.

“Insignia is proud to be among the first manufacturers to pair the Roku Streaming Stick with a TV,” said Scott Jacobi, director of Exclusive Brands at Best Buy. “The Roku Streaming Stick provides an elegant and easy over-the-top streaming solution for customers who want the full experience of a Smart TV without adding an external set box, HDMI cable and power adapter to their TV. Insignia looks forward to rolling out our first MHL-enabled TVs compatible with the Roku Streaming Stick in 2012 at Best Buy.”

“Roku was the first to deliver movies and TV shows streaming over the Internet from Netflix to TVs and since then has been delivering a great experience to Netflix members,” said Greg Peters, vice president of product development at Netflix. “The Roku Streaming Stick offers another innovative option for our members to enjoy the Netflix experience.”

Today’s Smart TVs become outdated in just a couple of years because as software evolves the hardware needs to be upgraded to keep pace. While short hardware product cycles are expected with mobile devices such as smart phones, consumers generally keep their TVs for six to eight years. By moving the streaming platform to a stick that’s easily replaceable, consumers no longer have to worry about their large-screen Smart TVs becoming obsolete before their time.

“The Roku platform has been extremely successful as a stand-alone streaming device,” said Roku Founder and CEO Anthony Wood. “Extending the Roku streaming experience through the Roku Streaming Stick to Smart TVs is a natural next step for the market.”

“Smart TV manufacturers have struggled to find an application platform that sticks with consumers especially since software is not their area of expertise,” said Kurt Scherf, vice president and principal analyst at Parks Associates. “The Roku Streaming Stick is a game changer for the Smart TV market. It takes the leading streaming platform and integrates into the TV in a way that no one has been able to do before.”

The Roku Streaming Stick will not require any cables or a separate power source, and can be controlled by the TV remote. Like Roku players, it will deliver the more than 400 channels found on the Roku platform today and will benefit from regular, free software updates and channel enhancements.
The Roku Streaming Stick will be available in the second half of 2012. It can be bundled with a TV in retail or sold separately for consumers to use with their own TVs.

The Roku Streaming Stick will plug into MHL-enabled HDMI ports on TVs. MHL is a new standard that uses the HDMI connector on TVs to deliver power and other critical elements for the streaming experience. MHL is currently adopted by nearly 100 hardware and manufacturing vendors including Nokia Corporation; Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.; Silicon Image, Inc.; Sony Corporation; and Toshiba Corporation, who are the joint founders of the MHL Consortium.

About Roku Inc.
Roku is the leading streaming platform. Since launching the first Netflix streaming player in 2008, Roku has delivered entertainment to approximately 2.5 million streaming players in the U.S. Roku features more than 400 entertainment channels including Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, Pandora, Angry Birds, Crackle, NHL GameCenter LIVE and HBO GO. Roku streaming players are renowned for their ease of use, value and selection of content and are sold through leading retailers. Roku was founded by Anthony Wood, inventor of the DVR.
Roku Unveils New Roku Streaming Stick Partners
Hitachi, Mitsubishi and Others Developing New CE Devices for Roku Streaming Stick

Saratoga, Calif. – Aug. 1, 2012 – Roku® today unveiled that Element Electronics; GlobalVue International, LLC; Haier; Hitachi America, Ltd.; Insignia, a Best Buy brand; Mitsubishi Electric (TVs); Onkyo and Integra; OPPO and TMAX Digital, Inc.(Apex Digital® TVs) are among the first companies working closely with Roku to develop new consumer electronics devices for the Roku Streaming Stick. Launching in the coming weeks, the Roku Streaming Stick is an easy and cost-effective way for consumer electronics manufacturers to add the proven Roku streaming platform to a device that features Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL). These new ‘Roku Ready®’ devices will display a distinctive Roku logo on their packaging, indicating they will work seamlessly out of the box with the Roku Streaming Stick. In addition, select devices will be bundled with the Roku Streaming Stick so consumers can immediately receive the full benefits of the Roku streaming platform.

Announced in January, the Roku Streaming Stick is a tiny, wireless streaming player that is the size of a USB flash drive. It features built-in WiFi, a processor, memory as well as software, updated on a regular basis, free of charge. Once plugged into a MHL-enabled device, the Roku Streaming Stick will stream video and music as well as enable casual game play from the more than 500 entertainment channels available on the Roku platform. When paired with a TV, the Roku Streaming Stick integrates the Roku streaming experience seamlessly into the TV user interface, giving the customer the ability to use the TV remote for all streaming activities.

“The response to the Roku Streaming Stick is tremendous. Consumer electronics manufacturers recognize the value in making products that stream entertainment, yet it is very difficult for them to deliver and sustain a vibrant, robust streaming platform on their own,” said Chas Smith, vice president of business development at Roku. “The Roku Streaming Stick adds instant access to the leading streaming platform with virtually no overhead from manufacturers, while giving consumers the best streaming experience available.”

“By partnering with Roku, and developing a line of new Mitsubishi TVs that will support their new Roku Streaming Stick, we will be able to offer the best big screen TVs and the most powerful internet streaming device together, bringing web-based entertainment to a whole new level for our customers,” said James Chan, vice president of marketing, Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America (MEVSA), Inc.

MHL is a new standard that is seeing wide adoption by consumer electronics manufacturers. MHL resembles HDMI in appearance but unlike other connectors, it delivers power and other critical elements for the Roku Streaming Stick.

The Roku Streaming Stick will be available in the coming weeks from Roku and retailers. It will be sold separately as well as bundled with select consumer electronics devices. Pricing will be announced at a later date. For more information about the Roku Streaming Stick visit www.roku.com/streamingstick.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, AUGUST 13, 2012 – Time Warner Cable today was joined by the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) and local officials to open a state-of-the-art Learning Lab at Good Shepherd Services in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The community services organization is the first in the borough to receive a Learning Lab, which is a Time Warner Cable-funded initiative providing New Yorkers with access to computers, e-learning programs and high-speed Internet to assist with their educational and professional development needs.

“Time Warner Cable is proud to partner with Good Shepherd Services, a prestigious organization which throughout its long history has improved the lives of countless New Yorkers,” said Brien Kelley, Time Warner Cable’s Area Vice President of Operations for Brooklyn and Queens. “We are excited to invest in Park Slope and look forward to our Learning Lab having a positive impact on the surrounding community.”

The Learning Lab is powered by high-speed Internet from Time Warner Cable Business Class, which is also providing the lab’s television and HD DVR services. The facility is also fully equipped with computers, computer software, printers and a HD television that are completely underwritten by Time Warner Cable. The value of the donation exceeds $50,000.

Bill Tyson, Regional Vice President of Commercial Services for Time Warner Cable Business Class, said, “We are very pleased to power this Learning Lab with complimentary high-speed Internet from Time Warner Cable Business Class. Our Learning Lab investments are a great extension of our mission of serving the city’s business community, as they help strengthen today’s workforce while providing young people with the tools they need to become successful later in life.”

“Good Shepherd Services is very grateful to Time Warner Cable for their partnership and support in establishing the Time Warner Cable Learning Lab at our Fifth Avenue location in Brooklyn,” said Sr. Paulette LoMonaco, Executive Director of Good Shepherd Services. “This facility aligns perfectly with Good Shepherd Services’ mission to provide youth and families with the services and support they need to make a safe passage to self-sufficiency. The Time Warner Cable Learning Lab will ensure that our program participants have access to cutting-edge technology and opportunities to improve and refine their computer literacy skills, which are so vital to achieving success in school and the workplace.”

“Digital literacy is essential to preserving opportunity for all,” said Assemblyman Jim Brennan. “That’s why I deeply appreciate that Time Warner Cable has partnered with Good Shepherd Services, a world-class social service organization, to establish a Learning Lab in Brooklyn. Congratulations and thanks!”

Assemblyman Felix Ortiz said, “This new Learning Lab will greatly benefit the community. Good Shepherd Services has such a positive impact on thousands of individuals, and this new Lab will help them accomplish their mission of providing development, education, and family services to those in need. I would like to thank Time Warner Cable for their generous support of Good Shepherd Services and for their support of the greater Brooklyn Community as a whole.”

“Today, in the city’s largest borough, the Bloomberg Administration’s work to bridge the digital divide takes another step forward by bringing the power of broadband to New Yorkers who need it most,” said DoITT Commissioner Rahul N. Merchant. “With private and non-profit partners like Time Warner Cable and Good Shepherd Services, we’re steadily improving access to this vital technology at what will soon be more than 100 centers citywide.”

Good Shepherd Services is a leading youth development, education and family service agency that focuses on high-need communities in Brooklyn and the Bronx, and serves over 20,000 program participants a year.

The Learning Lab at Good Shepherd Services is the fifth technology center that Time Warner Cable has officially opened in New York City. Additional Learning Labs are located at the Police Athletic League Center in Harlem, Sunnyside Community Services in Sunnyside, Queens, Gerard Carter Community Center in Stapleton, Staten Island, and the James Weldon Johnson Community Center in Harlem. The next Learning Lab to open will be at a Manhattan facility in Chinatown operated by the Chinese-American Planning Council.

Time Warner Cable made the commitment to open 40 computer centers enabled by broadband, branded as Learning Labs, when it renewed its franchise with the City of New York last year. In partnership with local not-for-profit organizations, the Labs enable Time Warner Cable to provide free broadband access to low-income communities throughout its service area.

TIME WARNER CABLE OPENS STATE-OF-THE-ART
LEARNING LAB AT GOOD SHEPHERD SERVICES

First TWC Learning Lab in Brooklyn to Provide Access to Computers
and High-Speed Internet For the Benefit of Local Residents

Time Warner Cable’s New York City service area includes Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and western Brooklyn, Mt. Vernon, NY, as well as Bergen and Hudson Counties in New Jersey.
