Friends, NOTE: OUR TV STUDIO WAS IN DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN FOR OVER 10 YEARS AND WE FOLLOWED WHAT WAS HAPPENING THERE… ESPECIALLY SINCE I LOVE BROOKLYN FOR MY WHOLE LIFE… PAUL

With New York City moving toward Phase 2 of reopening, we will continue to keep you up to date with our emails on Thursdays as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to greatly impact our communities.

Please remember that a face mask must be worn when in public if social distancing is not possible. If you do not have access to a mask, watch and share our video on how to make one yourself.

I ask that you be safe, be united, be peaceful, and continue to protect yourself from COVID-19 in all your activities.

Personal information will be stored securely and only accessible to City employees protecting public health. It will not be accessible by ICE or used for law enforcement or any other purpose.

Looking for a guest to discuss and bring hope to those who live with crippling anxiety that is being hugely exacerbated during the COVID19 Pandemic, racial unrest, and natural disasters wreaking havoc across the country? Let us present to you, Elke Scholz, registered psychotherapist and author of “Anxiety Warrior.” This book (from The Artist’s Reply ISBN: 978-0973602371 ebook: $7.49 / paperback: $18.99) offers hope and help to those who feel that anxiety is an unmanageable part of their lives. Your audience will learn to manage and lower their anxiety with this book. The pages are full of strategies and exercises, and along with Elke Scholz, there are five contributors, who are published authors, keynote speakers, and leaders who are passionate about empowering people. As a registered psychotherapist who focuses on Anxiety and depression, Dr. Scholz expertly guides and empowers your audience to go from feeling like a victim of their anxiety to an empowered warrior over it. Through hands-on steps and practical application, . Scholz will be right there with your audience to help them with:

• Gaining mastery over their minds. • Starting a checklist of the things that trigger their anxiety.
• Learning to recognize body sensations that are clues to actions you can take.
• Revealing routines you can do to take care of your physical health that also assist with your mental health.
• Making decisions that can bring forward confidence.
• Learning ways to protect themselves.
• Breaking through mental freezes and blocks. Whether in business, or in life, Anxiety can be a debilitating obstacle that saps audience members’ energy, causes undue worry and stress, and can lead to all manner of physical ailments as the body attempts to process all of the emotional triggers and reactions that are happening at lightspeed within. Sometimes people don’t recognize it’s presence, shrugging it off as the mid-afternoon crash, and sometimes they know exactly why they feel the way they do and become so distraught that it’s difficult to function.

“I believe in the work of Elke Scholz, and her deep rooted efforts which benefits the growth of the human spirit. I support her efforts to assist in our awareness of self and our environment.”
For Stuart Shanker, the possibility of a truly just and free society begins with how we see and nurture our children. www.self-reg.ca.

Stuart Shanker is renowned for using cutting-edge neuroscience to help children feel happy and think clearly by better regulating themselves. In his new book, Reframed, Shanker explores self-regulation in wider, social terms. Whereas his two previous books, Calm, Alert, and Learning and Self-Reg, were written for educators and parents, Reframed, the final book in the trilogy, unpacks the unique science and conceptual practices that are the very lifeblood of Self-Reg, making it an accessible read for new Self-Reggers.

What is self-regging and how can it get you through COVID19 behaviors including:

Panic Buying, Hope, Comfort Foods, Care Mongerin, and much more

Only a society that embraces these principles and strives to practice them, argues Shanker, can become a truly just society. The paradigm revolution presented in Reframed not only helps us understand the harrowing time we are living through, but inspires a profound sense of hope for the future. Shanker shows us how to build a compassionate society, one mind at a time.

“What if there existed a book with a masterful integration of contemporary neuroscience, research on human development, educational theory, and philosophical thought? What if this knowledge was reinterpreted from the perspective of stories about children and what fosters or holds back their developmental potential? And what if the journey led to the conclusion that it is possible to create a genuinely just society? That book is in our hands now, and it is up to us as a society to make the choice to follow its wisdom.”

―Alan Fogel, Professor of Psychology Emeritus University of Utah and author of Body Sense: The Science and Practice of Embodied Self-Awareness (W. W. Norton, 2013))

“This is a beautiful book, brimming with hope. Through Self-Reg principles and vivid real-life examples, Shanker explains what a Blue Brain/Red Brain balance is and how parents, educators, and coaches can help young children and teens achieve it.”

―Barbara J. King, Department of Anthropology, College of William & Mary, Author of How Animals Grieve

“In Reframed: Self-Reg for a Just Society we join Stuart Shanker on his personal journey to redefine age-old questions related to the capacity of humans to regulate their behaviour.”

―Stephen W. Porges, PhD, Distinguished University Scientist, Indiana University, Professor of Psychiatry, University of North Carolina, and originator of the Polyvagal Theory

Rolling Stone logoPaul McCartney Talks New Album, Beatles Breakup on ‘CBS Sunday Morning’

Paul McCartney discussed his new album, the Lennon/McCartney partnership, the Beatles’ breakup and his Covid-19 “rockdown” during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.

As correspondent Seth Doane noted at the onset of the conversation, while people in quarantine were learning how to bake bread, McCartney was recording McCartney III.

“The other thing people have been doing has been cleaning out their closets. So that’s a bit what [McCartney III] was,” McCartney said. “I just started cleaning out my cupboards. Like, ‘What about that song last year that I started but never got to finish. ‘Let’s have a look at that, let’s finish this.”

McCartney — who performs all the instruments on his latest LP, like the namesake McCartney albums before it — said of working on a completely solo album, “It’s not like working with the band, because I know what I want to hear, and I don’t even have to tell anyone,” McCartney said. “I just said, ‘Let’s do some drums.’ I’ll sit on the drums and I’ll think, ‘OK, I wanted doo doo doo…’ So, it’s all in my head.”

McCartney added, “One of the songs on the new album, it’s called ‘Kiss of Venus,’ and I wrote it one summer’s day and I got the beginning of it… I thought, ‘I’ll record it, I’ll finish it someday.’ But then I said to myself, ‘No! What have you got? You haven’t got anything on. Sit here and finish that bloody song.’”

The singer was also reluctant to record with anyone else, other than a few engineers at his home studio, due to the ongoing pandemic. “I don’t want to give [Covid-19] to anyone, and I don’t want to get it,” McCartney said. “When people sort of say, ‘Wearing masks is infringing on my civil liberties,’ I say, ‘No. That is stupid.’”

McCartney also talked at length about his songwriting partnership with John Lennon and, over 50 years after the Beatles breakup, whether the band would have ever reunited.

“[Lennon] was showing no signs of slowing up. You know, he was still making great music,” McCartney said of Lennon at the time of his 1980 murder. “The question is: Would we have ever got back together again? I don’t know. We don’t know.”

When asked what he does when he’s driving in a car and a Beatles song comes on the radio, McCartney responded, “Turn it up. Turn it up and sing along with it. It always brings me back to the session.”
How Innovative Health Tech Keeps Families Connected to Care
Managing chronic conditions like diabetes can be stressful
Learn how technology can help keep your mind and body healthy and connected to care

COVID-19 has many feeling stressed and isolated, exacerbating mental health challenges across the country. The CDC recently reported that more than two in five Americans struggle with mental or behavioral health issues due to the pandemic, with 31% noting symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder.

Now, heading into a holiday season where many are foregoing traditional gatherings, the space between us can feel even more expansive – particularly for children and families managing diabetes. A survey by Opinion Health and supported by Abbott exploring the emotional impact of diabetes on children and families found a diabetes diagnosis makes a child 73% more likely to be anxious than those without it and, nearly half of parents surveyed believed their child’s diabetes caused them to have mental health issues.

To add to this, more than 50% of people with diabetes who were diagnosed with COVID-19 have been hospitalized, highlighting the population’s higher risk for severe complications. Connected care has never been more important; advancements in health technology, paired with the uptick in telehealth, have been instrumental in helping people stay healthy, especially during the pandemic and
upcoming holiday season.

Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) are one of the advancements helping people with diabetes manage their condition safely from home – leaving them one less thing to worry about in the current environment. This is particularly true for parents of children with diabetes who reported feeling a heavy emotional burden over managing their child’s condition. Access to wearable CGM technology
that eliminates the need for fingersticks plays a critical role in making it easier.

Larry Kurt Midyett, M.D., pediatric endocrinologist, Midwest Women’s and Children’s Specialty Group, to explore insights from the survey and learn how health technology is empowering families to manage challenges associated with diabetes throughout the pandemic and into the holiday season.

This interview is sponsored by Abbott.

Danielle Brody is a writer and marketer living in Brooklyn. Just as her standup was taking off, the pandemic hit. As a kid, she always created illustrated plays and stories. So, she put down the mic and picked up the colored pencils again, and a watercolor set, too. Her new hobby turned venture, Danielle Doodles, is a series of funny drawings about the pandemic, getting COVID-19, dating, politics, TV, and more, all from Danielle’s perspective.

Some 52% of Americans said that the COVID-19 pandemic has made it more difficult for them to get their prescriptions. That could be a number of factors, difficulty seeing doctors, getting to the pharmacy, and even a loss of health insurance due to high unemployment numbers.
The survey was commissioned by FemiClear for Genital Herpes, a new OTC treatment shown to be effective in reducing the severity of genital herpes outbreaks.
FemiClear has been working with Dr. Jessica Shepherd, an OBGYN and gynecological surgeon at Baylor Medical Center, to get the word out about the impact of COVID on Americans including the 1 in 6 women who suffer from genital herpes.
The Covid-19 pandemic is a global shared traumatic experience that disrupts and affects our families, friends and communities. In NYC and nationally, people of color are disproportionally affected by COVID-19. Important advancement in treatment for patients living with Follicular Lymphoma (FL)

• Dr. M. Yair Levy, Texas Oncology – Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center

BACKGROUND:
Cancer is a disease that almost everyone will confront at some point in their lives, either personally or through a loved one. As we continue to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s more important than ever to ensure patients receive proper care when managing a chronic cancer, like follicular lymphoma (FL).1

FL is a slow-growing and incurable blood cancer that starts in the lymphatic system, which is a system of lymph nodes found throughout the body, including the neck, underarms, chest, abdomen and groin/pelvis.1 While FL can occur at any age, it is most frequently diagnosed among people aged 55-64, with a median age of 63.2 Of the estimated 74,000 individuals diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the United States each year,3 FL accounts for approximately 20% of all cases, or about 14,800 individuals.1

It’s important for patients and doctors to remember that cancer care should not be put by the wayside due to COVID-19. By having routine and open conversations with healthcare providers via telemedicine and select in-person visits, patients can help to support their own improved health outcomes. There is also new hope as treatment advances give patients with FL, and the doctors who treat them, new, convenient options to help fight this debilitating cancer.

With the FDA’s recent accelerated approval of TAZVERIK® (tazemetostat) for the treatment of adults with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma who have received at least 2 prior systemic therapies, FL patients have a new oral treatment option to discuss with their physicians. This indication is approved under accelerated approval based on overall response rate and duration of response. Continued approval for this indication may be contingent upon verification and description of clinical benefit in a confirmatory trial(s). For more information on TAZVERIK, including full Prescribing Information, please visit: www.tazverik.com.4

Dr. M. Yair Levy, Texas Oncology – Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center, will be available for interviews. He will share details about this recent approval, risk factors, symptoms and treatment options for FL.
Interview is courtesy: Epizyme, Inc.

For more information on FL, please visit: www.lymphomaresearchfoundation.org or www.lls.org
For more information on TAZVERIK, including full Prescribing Information, please visit: www.tazverik.com

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Warnings and Precautions

• Secondary Malignancies

The risk of developing secondary malignancies is increased following treatment with TAZVERIK. Across clinical trials of 729 adults who received TAZVERIK 800 mg twice daily, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or acute myeloid leukemia (AML) occurred in 0.7% of patients. One pediatric patient developed T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL). Monitor patients long-term for the development of secondary malignancies.

• Embryo-Fetal Toxicity

Based on findings from animal studies and its mechanism of action, TAZVERIK can cause fetal harm when administered to pregnant women. There are no available data on TAZVERIK use in pregnant women to inform the drug-associated risk. Administration of tazemetostat to pregnant rats and rabbits during organogenesis resulted in dose-dependent increases in skeletal developmental abnormalities in both species beginning at maternal exposures approximately 1.5 times the adult human exposure (area under the plasma concentration time curve [AUC0-45h]) at the 800 mg twice daily dose.

Advise pregnant women of the potential risk to a fetus. Advise females of reproductive potential to use effective contraception during treatment with TAZVERIK and for 6 months after the final dose. Advise males with female partners of reproductive potential to use effective contraception during treatment with TAZVERIK and for 3 months after the final dose.

Adverse Reactions

In 99 clinical study patients with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma receiving TAZVERIK 800 mg twice daily: Serious adverse reactions occurred in 30% of patients who received TAZVERIK. Serious adverse reactions occurring in ≥2% were general physical health deterioration, abdominal pain, pneumonia, sepsis, and anemia. The most common (≥20%) adverse reactions were fatigue (36%), upper respiratory tract infection (30%), musculoskeletal pain (22%), nausea (24%), and abdominal pain (20%).

Drug Interactions

Avoid coadministration of strong or moderate CYP3A inhibitors with TAZVERIK. If coadministration of moderate CYP3A inhibitors cannot be avoided, reduce TAZVERIK dose.

Avoid coadministration of moderate and strong CYP3A inducers with TAZVERIK, which may decrease the efficacy of TAZVERIK.

Coadministration of TAZVERIK with CYP3A substrates, including hormonal contraceptives, can result in decreased concentrations and reduced efficacy of CYP3A substrates.

Lactation

Because of the potential risk for serious adverse reactions from TAZVERIK in the breastfed child, advise women not to breastfeed during treatment with TAZVERIK and for one week after the final dose.

Please see full Prescribing Information for TAZVERIK, available at www.tazverik.com
