Why do I say that, “It’s not easy to be good, but truly worth it?” Because to be good it’s all about EVERYONE ELSE, NOT YOURSELF. For example, when you give someone your seat…you now have to stand, when you walk someone across the street…you might be delayed to where you are going…when you volunteer…you can’t do something else with your time…BUT IN ALL THESE SITUATIONS AND MORE…you gain respect for yourself and respect from the ones you helped and RESPECT AND HONOR IS A BLESSING.

GOOD NEWS VOLUNTEERED with the FOOD RECOVERY NETWORK on Super Bowl Sunday at the Cow Palace Parking Lot in San Francisco for a Guy Fieri’s Tailgate Party. HELLMANN’S MAYO/UNILEVER HELPED SUPPORT THE FOOD RECOVERY NETWORK OUTREACH. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT ALMOST 15,000 POUNDS OF FOOD WAS RECOVERED AND BROUGHT TO THE DELANCEY FOUNDATION TO BE GIVEN TO THOSE IN NEED. 

Student-Led Food Recovery Network (FRN) – now the largest in the US – is making a Big Impact during the Big Game. FRN and Hellmann’s Mayonnaise are working together so that no food gets wasted and goes to families in need in the Bay Area. Good News, Paul Sladkus & Ivy Ma are volunteering at Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Tailgate food location.

ONE STORY OF FOR MOTHER EARTH starts with this weekend’s Super Bowl and the Food Recovery Network (FRN), UNILEVER/Hellmann’s Mayonnaise, and Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Tailgate…   

GOOD NEWS will be volunteering at the COW PALACE IN SAN FRANCISCO WITH THE FOOD RECOVERY NETWORK FROM Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Tailgate Major Party…  they expect to give over 10,000 pounds to two San Francisco food locations for those in need.

Student-Led Food Recovery Network (FRN) – now the largest in the US – is making a Big Impact during the Big Game. FRN and Hellmann’s Mayonnaise are working together so that no food gets wasted and goes to families in need in the Bay Area. The Ox is also associated with the Earthly Branch (地支 / dì zhī) Chǒu (丑) and the hours 1–3 in the morning. In the terms of yin and yang (阴阳 / yīn yáng), the Ox is Yang.

Oxen are the hard workers in the background, intelligent and reliable, but never demanding praise.
In Chinese culture, the Ox is a valued animal. Because of its role in agriculture, positive characteristics, such as being hardworking and honest, are attributed to it.

Paired with the Celestial Stems (天干 / Tiān gān), there is a 60-year calendrical cycle. Although chǒu is associated with earth, the years also cycle through the five elements of nature (五行 / wǔ xíng).

Recent years of the Ox

Personality and Characteristics
Oxen are honest and earnest. They are low key and never look for praise or to be the center of attention. This often hides their talent, but they’ll gain recognition through their hard work.

They believe that everyone should do what’s asked for them and stay within their bounds. Though they are kind, it’s difficult for them to understand persuasion using pathos. Rarely losing your temper, they think logically and make great leaders.

Rat’s fixed Earthly Branch is water, while Ox is earth. They have complementing personalities and hold the same goals in life.

These include doctors, lawyers, businessmen and teachers. With their technical skills and effort, they can receive society’s recognition and reach their own standards.

No matter what career they choose, it must something they are really interested in. Though they may be okay with any job that fits their skills, they should take the time to find something they love. Only in a stable environment that matches their passions, are they able to find their true calling.

Health and Lifestyle
Like the wild oxen that run freely in the fields, people of the Ox year are healthy and fit. Hospital visits are rare, but this sometimes leads to overconfidence. Neglect during youth will result in problems in the later years.

Joe Kelsay

Joe’s family milks 500 cows at a dairy outside Indianapolis with his wife, Amy. The farm has been in Joe’s family since the 1800s.

Joe thinks on his feet, is very engaging and funny and has a bit of a twang. He loves to talk about technology and understands how it helps him do his traditional job better and more efficiently.
At this year’s Indy 500, he was the official “milk man”—the dairy farmer who delivers milk to the winner and his team (link below).

Joe graduated from Purdue with a BS in Agriculture Economics Farm Management and works in marketing at Dow AgroSciences & Partner, in addition to being a full-time farmer.
