ELYSIAN, an international luxury lifestyle brand created to inspire and reflect the interests of women, will launch the Inaugural CatWalk FurBaby fundraiser on Friday, February 10th, 2023 at Sony Hall, kicking off New York Fashion Week 2023, hosted by Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin.
CatWalk FurBaby will pair designers, models, rescue animals and charities together for a morning of passion with a purpose. Ten models – wearing outfits designed by fashion designers including Marc Bouwer, Malan Breton, Karen Caldwell, Anne Fontaine, Gloria Lee, Merci Dupre, Nicole Miller, Noize Apparel, Victor de Souza and Brook Wilder – will each grace the runway with a four-legged companion, and a panel of celebrity judges headed by Fern Mallis with Carol Alt and Karen Abercrombie will hand out awards to animal welfare organizations paired with each model-and-pet team.
“This is the first time that fashion, animals and charity have been brought together in New York Fashion Week,” ELYSIAN Founder Karen Floyd said. “To do it in a way that will benefit the lives of countless pets adds a layer of meaning that will not soon be forgotten.”
DRC Ventures, a global catalyst for conservation efforts led by visionary founder Dr. Christina Rahm, is the event’s title sponsor. DRC Ventures is hosting Merci Dupre Clothiers couture line which is expected to become the ultimate in luxury, eco-fashion, and environmental protection. This unique line of ‘Enviremware’ clothing will host a protected coating of nano-biotech technology. The 25th Annual Collaborating for a Cure Gala, one of New York City’s favorite charity events celebrated its silver anniversary at Cipriani Wall Street. The “fun-raiser as opposed to fundraiser” as described by Michael Nierenberg raised more than $6 million towards the goal of funding the next five years of crucial SWCRF cancer research programs such as the Partnership for Aging and Cancer Research Program, the SWCRF Institute Without WallsTM, and the Women’s Cancer Research Program.

Following a cocktail reception across the street, guests made their way to the main dining room where emcee, CBS’s Chris Wragge, welcomed the more than 700 guests, introduced the evening’s honorees, and highlighted many of the Foundation’s groundbreaking achievements over the past 50 years. “Tonight, we have a great program to celebrate two giants in the fight against cancer”, said Wragge.

Upon receiving the Vision and Leadership Award, SWCRF Board Chairman Michael Nierenberg commented, “The real honorees are Dr. Waxman and the great heroes like him who treat and cure cancer every day.”

Founder and CEO Dr. Samuel Waxman, who received the well-deserved and long-overdue Lifetime Achievement Award, spoke to his vision (goal) for a future in which cancer does not have to be a disease associated with aging. “The incidence of cancer is increasing, in part, as a by-product of improvements we are making in human longevity,” said Dr. Waxman. “But through our collaborative research programs, we can flatten this curve. I am thrilled to be a part of many amazing breakthroughs that have occurred in cancer research – with more to come.”

Special guest, author and breast cancer survivor, Musa Mayer, shared why she has been a longtime supporter of SWCRF and very generously offered a $1 million match for all donations made during the gala. “I will be celebrating my 80th birthday soon thanks to the work of this foundation and Dr. Samuel Waxman,” said Mayer.

As in previous years, the Collaborating for a Cure Gala included a live auction during the night’s festivities, including a meet and greet with MT. JOY, culinary experiences at the Cipriani Vault, il Buco Vita, and New York Vintners, and a Palm Bay Italian Winery experience (in Tuscany) to name a few. There was also a raffle for a private 7-day Bahamas cruise aboard an 82-foot, hybrid-powered, luxury yacht.

Over 16 million people in the U.S. struggle with rosacea (ro-ZAY-she-ah), a chronic and recurrent skin condition that can worsen over time.1

More than 82% of people feel their rosacea is uncontrolled, and less than 50% are satisfied with their current prescription treatments, which can lead to overuse or misuse of these products which can trigger or worsen the condition.5-8 Rosacea can be so challenging to manage that 55% of people with the skin condition and a high disease burden reported they were willing to give up one year or more of their life to cure their symptoms.9

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently approved a new treatment that can improve the bumps and blemishes of rosacea and provides significant relief.10
Some precautions for those with rosacea include:4

Protect your face from the sun by using a broad spectrum sunscreen and wearing a hat
Avoid strenuous outdoor activity from 10am-2pm when sun is hottest
Break up physical activity to avoid becoming overheated
Stay cool by carrying cold water when outdoors in the heat

Dr. Ted Lain, Executive Director, Austin Institute for Clinical Research to discuss the signs, symptoms, and triggers of rosacea. He’ll also share the latest treatment for the condition and offer advice to keep rosacea symptoms in check, especially during the summer months.

ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, takes many lives, Everything ALS is doing

Deb Fabricatore lost her younger brother to ALS in 2014, and became involved in ALS advocacy. Indu Navar lost her husband in 2019 and immediately stepped up into action by building a nonprofit devoted to honoring her husband. Both women and the members of the Everything ALS team have vowed to create a legacy of treatment and cure for their loved ones lost to ALS by building a non-profit determined to tackle the mission of Care to Cure for those diagnosed with ALS.

ALS also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease is a progressive, fatal neuro degenerative disease. It discriminates against no – one It can affect young, old, any race, age, background. It has no treatment and no cure. Those stricken with the disease lose their ability to move, talk, eat while their muscles whither away, causing paralysis and being trapped in their own bodies. Indu Navar and Deb Fabricatore are two of the co-founders of EverythingALS. There are many other dedicated team members including Austen Eadie-Friedman. Everything ALS is Navar’s brainchild a non-profit bringing technological innovations and data science to support efforts–from care to cure– for people with ALS, by offering an open data platform for direct engagement with patients, caregivers, researchers drug companies and using citizen driven research. Their non-profit has grown rapidly in their two short years of existence.

As patient advocates EverythingALS hosts bi-monthly community talks that are designed to provide patients and caregivers with the support and information that they will need throughout their ALS journey. They garner top tier speakers from research, medicine, technology and advocacy to present and answer questions as people watch and participate from their homes. This information and ability to communicate with such high-level experts from the comfort of their homes has been invaluable to the ALS community.

The Everything ALS team believe technology will be the key enabler for the innovation to end ALS. They support efforts to find a cure and or treatment for ALS by creating a platform for direct engagement with patients, researchers and cutting-edge Cloud and AI technologies.
The diverse team is composed of patient advocates, students, nurses, physicians, biologists, ALS patients. They are committed to helping provide information to those who are affected by ALS.

One example of an Everything ALS projects is the Speech Research Study, which is the development of speech analysis of audio and facial metrics for biomarkers for early detection and diagnosis, clinical endpoints and better voice recognition tools for ALS. As of now ALS has no test, or biomarker to assist in diagnosis. Everything ALS shares their data and works in collaboration with various research institutions such as, MIT, Mass General Harvard, UT Austin and Google to name a few. They are also supporting researchers by providing multi-omics analysis with machine learning and big data to uncover ALS causes, subtypes, pathways and drug targets.

EverythingALS continues to recruit participants for this Speech Study of control subjects (those with no ALS diagnosis) and those diagnosed with ALS. They believe citizen driven research will help solve the puzzle that will lead to treatment and cure of ALS. The study takes about 10 minutes per week on your computer, pad, or phone at any time that is convenient for the participant.

The 24th Annual Collaborating for a Cure Gala, one of New York City’s much-anticipated Autumn charity events, made its grand return at downtown’s Cipriani Wall Street. Aptly themed Together Again, the 24th Annual fundraiser supported groundbreaking cancer research funded by the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF). The Gala raised more than $4,000,000. Known for its history of top-notch live performances, this year’s gala featured a live concert by Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit with very special guest artist Warren Haynes.

Notable attendees included: Dr. Samuel Waxman, Marion Waxman, Dr. Kevan Shokat, Deborah Kamali, Mark Fedyk, Erica Feinberg, Matthew Waller, Michael Nierenberg, Elin Nierenberg, Jonny Nierenberg, Dr. Ethan Dmitrovsky, Tess Dmitrovsky, Chris Wragge, Allie Gorin, Jody Gorin, Matt Gorin, David Ronzenhole, Dena K. Weiner, William T. Sullivan, Dennis Loyola, Ruben Fajardo, Cesar Ricci, Howard Kurz, Nancy Kurz, Vinnie Cammarata, Spencer Waxman, Bettina Waxman, Scott Waxman, Randi Schatz, David Hinkelman, Nick Santoro.

This year, SWCRF presented its Fashion Cares Award to Debra S. Waller, Chairman and CEO of Jockey International, Inc. and its first-ever Breakthrough Science Award to Dr. Kevan Shokat, from the University of San Francisco. Waller, who has been personally impacted by cancer in her family, was recognized for her commitment to eradicating cancer and decades of philanthropy. Jockey COO Mark Fedykand the Jockey team represented and accepted the award on behalf of Waller.

Dr. Shokat, an SWCRF-funded investigator, recently discovered a new compound that effectively shuts off one of the most common cancer-causing genetic mutations – the overactive KRAS protein – which is a driver in lung, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers. This mutant protein was considered “undruggable” for decades, but after 15 years of research and significant investments from SWCRF, a new FDA-approved medication is now available that shrinks these tumors by up to 50 percent with remarkably low toxicity.

After a cocktail reception across the street, guests made their way to the main dining room where host Michael Nierenberg and emcee Chris Wragge welcomed everyone back. As in previous years, the Collaborating for a Cure Gala included both a silent and live auction during the night’s festivities. The main prize of the night was 7-day Caribbean cruise aboard a brand new, 80-foot, solar-powered, luxury catamaran. Other auction items included 4 tickets to Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit, Candy the dog, 7 day Tuscany vacation, dinner for 16 at Cipriani vault just to name a few.

During the gala, SWCRF also announced a new collaboration with the Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai to further expand the Foundation’s Aging and Cancer program which includes partnerships with the National Cancer Institute, National Institute on Aging, and the Israel Cancer Research Foundation. Additionally, the Foundation is funding breakthrough research to combat breast and ovarian cancer. In the past 10 years, SWCRF has allocated $4 million to its Women’s Cancer Research Program and is currently investing $1,550,000 towards 15 prestigious scientists working on finding new treatments for breast and ovarian cancer.

Funding for these projects is raised, in part, from the Foundation’s various events such as the Hamptons Happening summer event, their annual Ladies Luncheon, and of the Annual Collaborating for A Cure Gala.

Rob spent several years working and volunteering in third world countries where he attended doctorate studies in Public Health, Concentrating on Tropical Diseases at Central University of Nicaragua. Itis there where he collaborated in a health education program to promote the prevention of Cholera in Haiti.

Has consulted for several fitness companies such as Malibu Pilates, Power Pilates and Ab-Cycle as well as non profit Companies such as Operation Underground to fight sex trafficking.
