Also, I placed some pics and history below for you of some cool new thingies, like a rare 16mm film of the early 1900’s Disney Alice Comedies (Alice in Wonderland animation/live action films) and Spanish & Hebrew Scopitones, and George Melies Trip to the Moon wirephoto and even a Jack Lalanne 16mm film! Enjoy! 

First though, I want to thank everyone for responding to my call to help the Museum! We had to pay $30,000 by mid June for the Covid debt. Well guess what, as of today I paid down $25,000, we only owe $5,000. Please help with what you can. I will officially retire someday with just over $1,900 and a box of Choc Chip Cookies but I am gonna make this happen! lolWe are almost there, I need your help please

The Museum of Interesting Things is a traveling interactive demonstration/exhibition of antiques and inventions that goes to schools, libraries and events virtually or physically and inspires kids and adults to be curious. We bring back tinkering. I like to say it shows kids and adults that their ipods did not pop out of thin air! Like a circus…just no elephants!

The Invention Show

Exploring the industrial revolution and mechanical era, with interactive demonstrations of such items as the steam engine, Thomas Edison cylinder phonograph, windup toys, camera obscuras and mechanical/gear based household items such as a box wooden telephone.

For the Museum’s 16mm early film show I got this 16mm Film WALT DISNEY “ALICE’S EGG PLANT” 1925. The Alice Comedies are a series of animated/live-action shorts created by Walt Disney in the 1920s, in which a live action little girl named Alice (originally played by Virginia Davis) and an animated cat named Julius have adventures in an animated landscape. For the Museum film program on health and exercise I got this BIKETTE COMMERCIAL JACK LaLANNE 16MM FILM ON 3″ REEL. Jack was an American fitness and nutrition guru and motivational speaker. He had so many TV shows and books and opened his first fitness club in CA in 1936! He lived until 2011! As a kid he was the meaning of fitness.

I just got for the Museum’s history of Music show this Rubber Soul by The Beatles (Vinyl) 1965 1st Pressing. This was their 6th studio LP and released just before Xmas. The name Rubber Soul came about after McCartney heard an American musician use the term “plastic soul” when referring to Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. The UK version had 2 more songs, they wanted to be more folk for the US version. The Museum’s collection of records is over 2000!

This is the 16mm SCOPITONE film – LA PACHANGA – by AUDREY ARNO sung in Spanish. It means the Party I believe. In the 1960’s and early 70’s Scopitones were film Juke Boxes you would find in a tavern or any place you would see a jukebox. For 25 cents you see and hear a 16mm film right there on the screen! I also got a really rare Hebrew one of HAVA NAGUILA – 1959 – by RIKA ZARAI.  Rika Zaraï was an Israeli singer and writer. She popularized Israeli classic songs such as Hava Nagila, Yerushalayim shel zahav and Hallelujah.The Museum has over 100 scopitone films, we will certainly do another festival again this summer, the last one was very popular. The films we fun and cheesy and a bit risque, remember, they were for people who were often drunk and men. hehe

For the Museum’s Trip to the Moon show I got this Press Photo of scenes from “Alive from Off Center: A Tribute to George Melies”. Program Two: in A Tribute to George Melies, the lost scripts of cinema’s master of special effects (left), George Melies, are given whimsical reinterpretations by modern filmmakers on Alive From Off Center. (Top right) Christopher Malavoy stars in Pierre Etaix’s “The Artist’s Dream”; (bottom right) David Rocheline and Daria Elies are featured in Philippe Gautier’s “The Seven Deadly Sins.” Program Two premieres on Thursday, July 6, 1989 at 8:30 p.m. ET on PBS. A production of KTCA-TV, Minneapolis/St. Paul, the series showcases the world’s leading video, film and performing artists.
