<p>Even with the successful resolution of the Entertainment industry “Guilds” strike of 2023, there remains an ongoing fear that &#8220;artificial intelligence poses an existential threat to creative professions.&#8221; The core AI issue sparking debate in Hollywood is not only based on compensation and creative control production. Deep fake technology in particular has raised concern about potential harmful uses, such as political disinformation, revenge porn, and misuse of intellectual property. Concerns about disinformation are particularly high in an election year. At the same time, many “creatives” tout the game changing benefits this technology can bring to artistic and other endeavors, such as educational opportunities, enhanced freedom of expression and reduced barriers to entry. This panel will discuss these competing concerns and whether existing legal frameworks, such as right of publicity, copyright, and existing regulations, are sufficient to address this powerful technology.</p>

What are we to make of this phenomenon? “Barbi” afterall started out as a “Children’s Doll” over a half century ago and now as a “Movie Star” and “Virtual Human” has become a “Global Phenomenon.” With that in mind, perhaps the “Cultural Narrative” of “Synths” and “Virtual Humans as Celebrities” has yet to be decided.</p>

Bergen County New Jersey resident and stay-at-home dad Vernon D. Gibbs II has released his first children’s book, a 36 page fully-illustrated adventure titled When Good Fruit Goes Bad.<br />
A collaboration with his cousin Steven T. Gray through Cuzzos Publishing and Media, When Good Fruit Goes Bad is a story about friendly neighborhood grocer Hank Huckleberry, who loves to sell only the freshest fruits and veggies to his customers. But when some bad fruit decide to take over his store in protest, Hank, with the help of his good friend Sarah Sweets, finds a way to make the fruit happy again.<br />
It is a story about finding new and exciting ways to eat healthy, but more importantly, it is about knowing your worth and that you have value, despite some bumps and bruises that might keep you from looking and feeling “perfect”. When Good Fruit Goes Bad is about seeing one’s value, even if you have to work a bit harder to find it in yourself and others.<br />
The story was inspired by an incident Vernon had with his son several years ago. Justin wanted throw out a banana that was brown, bruised and a bit overripe. Dad stepped in to stop him from doing so, telling him that banana could still be used in a smoothie (which he made and loved). From there, a story grew about eating healthy, creating less waste and how we all sometimes struggle or don’t bother to try to find value in ourselves and each other. In a time when more and more kids and adults are struggling with self-doubt and hopelessness, this message of hope and rooting for the underdog is needed.<br />
The lessons of When Good Fruit Goes Bad can be used as a starting point for parents, guardians and educators alike to start discussions around wellness of both body and mind, speaking up for yourself, caring about the health of others, and much more.<br />

<p>Our annual fashion show is set for June 3rd, right here in Sunnyside Gardens!<br />
In our ninth year, our show celebrates the music of Broadway. Each Broadway shows tell a unique story about humanity, in the form of relationships, social and political issues, our young designers are each telling a unique story or their own through the clothing they choose to create and wear.<br />
This year we encouraged our students to embrace their story along with the design process, from beginning to end. What most sewing do not get to do is make their own fabric. The fabric is the first decision in the design process. By making your own fabric or by altering the surface in some way, you have the opportunity to take total control of your ideas.<br />
The students approached this project from a different points of view. Color blocking, layering textures and appliqué are a few of the surface design projects you will see on the runway. What you will notice most is hand printed fabric. More than half of our students chose to hand carve a print block and use that block to custom print their own fabric. One of our students took the plunge and sent her fabric to a professional printer to get her fabric made-to-order. Whatever process each young designer chose, the results are both very personal and amazing!<br />
These creative young professionals are the future of fashion! You don’t want to miss this show!<br />
