We wanted to let you know about a project that has consumed our time and attention for the past 18 months or so — really what we have been shaping through various iterations since the formation of UNITE. Our new project is The Dignity Index, and we are conducting a demonstration project of this tool in Utah right now.

The Dignity Index is an instrument designed to measure political and public speech — the language that we use and its power to unite or divide. We are hoping to help people understand the language that demonstrates contempt vs. the language that recognizes the dignity in others, and learn a better way to communicate through our differences. You can take a quick look at the 8 point scale we are piloting on our website, and also see how we are applying this in Utah.

The Dignity Index is meant to raise people’s awareness of speech and language patterns and where that speech falls on a scale ranging from contempt to dignity. We want people to have another way to look at the actions of politicians. However, we don’t grade or rate politicians, but are focusing on the language they use and whether that language uses tactics of contempt or dignity. We’ve found that we all can be at the low or high end of the scale, depending on the circumstance and our efforts to learn a better way.

We would love to engage you in the movement, and hear your thoughts and feedback. A couple of ways you can be involved include:

This is no better than people looting stores, physically hurting and killing others…

We all should be thankful for life and respect for each other.

Happy and HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO ALL. STAY SAFE.

SAFETY is the most important focus of our life right now, along with loving ALL.

We at Good News are saddened by many things in America, just like Lady Liberty above. Good News was going to share thoughts of 2020 Bittersweet Thoughts that were sent to us in an Inner Happiness group that we are part of. We have decided to still share it as we are believers in the Good in the World and that our difficult times will pass when we all realize that we are all in this together, our www.goodnewsplanet.TV motto. They also say a little laughter, during our most difficult times is healthy, I hope you agree. Additionally, we share a link to a Benefit Concert that we did on New Year’s Eve to raise money for Support Dogs for First Responders & Vets and www.peacedayparty.org. I performed on the Sax and the Piano and share Thoughts of Wisdom from Soundscapes on a TV Channel… Enjoy.

2020 Bittersweet Thoughts

1. The dumbest thing I ever bought was a 2020 planner.

2. 2019: Stay away from negative people. 2020: Stay away from positive people.

3. The world has turned upside down. Old folks are sneaking out of the house & their kids are yelling at them to stay indoors!

4. This morning I saw a neighbor talking to her cat. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. I came to my house & told my dog… We had a good laugh.

5. Every few days try your jeans on just to make sure they fit. Pajamas will have you believe all is well in the kingdom.

6. Does anyone know if we can take showers yet or should we just keep washing our hands?

7. I never thought the comment, “I wouldn’t touch him/her with a 6-foot pole” would become a national policy, but here we are!

8. I need to practice social-distancing from the refrigerator.

9. I hope the weather is good tomorrow for my trip to the Backyard. I’m getting tired of the Living Room.

10. Never in a million years could I have imagined I would go up to a bank teller with a mask on and ask for money.

Amy Chalfy of JASA shares the Good News of JASA, Good News thanks JASA for doing such important work for years. According to the latest statistics from the NYC Department for the Aging, more than 18 percent, (over 1.52 million) of New Yorkers are over the age of 60. And this number is growing daily as the Boomer generation becomes the Senior population. To commemorate this wide and varied group, and to continue providing services and activities to keep them engaged, vital and cared for, JASA, one of New York’s largest and most trusted agencies serving more than 43,000 older adults in the New York metropolitan area, will host its annual Celebrating Seniors fundraiser on Tuesday, May 10. The Cocktail Reception will take place at 583 Park Avenue from 6 to 8 p.m. and we invite you to attend.

The Emcee for the evening is Jane Marsh, internationally acclaimed soprano and Artistic Advisor of the Metropolitan Opera Guild; the special celebrity guest is NBA legend, John Starks and, leading the bidding for the third year is Christie’s auctioneer extraordinaire, Toby Usnik. Also of particular note, is guest speaker Philip C. Marshall, elder-justice advocate and grandson of Brooke Astor. Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All” which aims to highlight the importance of all segments of society to work together to strive for peace. The work of the United Nations would not be possible without the initial partnerships that were active in its creation and the thousands of partnerships each year between governments, civil society, the private sector, faith-based groups and other non-governmental organizations that are needed to support the Organization in achieving its future goals.
The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by resolution 36/67 of the United Nations General Assembly to coincide with its opening session, which was held annually on the third Tuesday of September. The first Peace Day was observed in September 1982.
In 2001, the General Assembly by unanimous vote adopted resolution 55/282 , which established 21 September as an annual day of non-violence and cease-fire.
The United Nations invites all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities during the Day, and to otherwise commemorate the Day through education and public awareness on issues related to peace.
