There is a lot of confusion about uranium enrichment in Iran.

In natural uranium, only 7 atoms out of 1000 are chain-reacting uranium-235. The other 993 atoms are, for the most part, uranium-238 atoms – not a chain-reacting material.

Uranium enrichment refers to any technology that increases the percentage of the chain-reacting U-235 beyond the 0.7% level (i.e. natural uranium). But there is a good deal of misinformation and/or misunderstanding about enriched uranium in the media recently.

Nuclear Explosions

It is often reported that 90% uranium enrichment is “needed” to have a nuclear weapon. This is not true. The Hiroshima bombs had only 80% enrichment. Iran has a good deal of 60% enriched uranium, and you can make a bomb from 60% enriched uranium — it would be bulkier than a bomb with 90% enrichment and therefore harder to deliver, but not so very much harder.

Also, the mechanism needed for making a uranium bomb is very much easier than what is needed for a plutonium bomb. It can be done with a lot less effort and taking very little time. It’s called a “gun-type” atomic bomb rather than an “implosion-type” atomic bomb.

Gordon Edwards

The gun-type bomb just fires one chunk of uranium into another chunk (the target) so that the two chunks add up to more than a “critical mass”. It is so simple it cannot possibly fail – as a result they never had to test this type of bomb before using it. They dropped it on the city of Hiroshima with no testing. There is a need for a precision timed “neutron source” but that is very old technology that has been well known for ages.

The implosion-type bomb is much more sophisticated, requiring a perfectly spherical

FRIDAY, MARCH 20, 2020
5:30 – 9:00 PM
You are cordially invited on behalf of the Financial Policy Council’s Board of Directors and the Association of Patriotic Americans , to our next Financial Policy Council power summit featuring a panel discussion about making the case for capitalism and for the signing of my upcoming book Start-up Saboteurs: How Incompetence, Ego, and Small Thinking Prevent True Wealth Creation . You don’t want to miss this thanks to our Event Sponsors the Financial Policy Council’s Board of Directors and the Association of Patriotic Americans

Under President Trump the United States has without a doubt seen a resurgence and renaissance in all aspects of our society, with stock markets breaking record highs, over 7 million new jobs created and millions of people off food stamps…But to our liberals in Hollywood, in Ivy League campuses and news rooms and studios of the mainstream media companies, as well as many politicians in our city halls, state capitals and the Washington DC beltway, socialism is more appealing than ever, leading to the national disgraces in places like San Francisco and New York City and witnessing the masses of brainwashed young generations enamored by the prowess and beauty of socialist and communist ideas and achievements.

America is at a crossroads.

Making the Case for Capitalism: Panel, Keynote and Book Signing, aims to make a case for capitalism and help clarify the vision for our great country by engaging a group of top thought leaders of America to offer their insights and perspectives on the advantages and disadvantages of capitalism and socialism. This is an event of historical significance. And it’s also timely.

The Panelists:
Stephen Moore – Distinguished Visiting Fellow, Project for Economic Growth, at The Heritage Foundation.
As Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Heritage, Moore focuses on advancing public policies that increase the rate of economic growth to help the United States retain its position as the global economic superpower. He also works on budget, fiscal and monetary policy and showcases states that get fiscal houses in order.
“One of the projects I’m going to be working on is how President Obama has discredited liberal ideas more than anyone,” Moore said in an interview with The Foundry upon his return to Heritage. “Everything he’s done has been such a massive failure — from the [economic] stimulus to health-care reform to bailouts to green energy.
Moore’s early career was shaped by three people who had a profound influence on him: Julian Simon, the late Cato Institute scholar; Edwin J. Feulner, a co-founder of Heritage; and Art Laffer, the economist best known for the Laffer curve.
“What makes them so great is they were willing to take on the conventional wisdom. They were subject to a lot of criticism for doing that,” Moore told The Foundry. “Those are the real change-makers.”
Moore calls his creation of the Club for Growth the defining moment of his career. The organization, which he left in 2004, helps elect conservative members of Congress (including Heritage President Jim DeMint when he first ran for Senate).
Moore next founded the Free Enterprise Fund before joining The Wall Street Journal. As senior economics writer for the newspaper’s editorial board, he covered Washington policy debates and state issues.
“Because I’ve been a consumer of think tank material and policy research, I think I have a pretty good sense of what reporters want and how to get it to them in the way they want it,” Moore said. “Being timely — and not just offering opinion but giving them the facts and data is really critical.”
Moore, who grew up in New Trier Township, Ill., received a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He holds a Masters of Arts in economics from George Mason University.

David Wilcox – Serial deal maker and entrepreneur

David is the Chairman & CEO of Evolution Metals Corp. based in West Palm Beach, Florida. In addition, he holds numerous leadership positions in the private investment space, globally.

Mr. Wilcox’s career began at Deutsche Bank, based in both the London and New York offices, operating across 4 continents. He is a derivatives trading specialist but has also ran teams spanning various regulatory overhaul initiatives, driving value from government policy change.

Mr. Wilcox holds a Bachelor in Business from the University of Tennessee, and a Masters from St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, England.

Samuel Zhang – PhD, MBA – Chief Business Officer of NeoImmune Tech.

Dr. Zhang has nearly 20 years of drug development & commercialization experiences with industry leaders such as Pfizer and Novartis, and the unique expertise to strategically integrate commercial, scientific, medical, and financial perspectives into drug development and investment decision making.

He led the initial registration strategy of Bristol Meyers Squibb’s breakthrough cancer immunotherapy drug nivolumab that helped generate ~$4B/year in sales.

In his spare time, Dr. Zhang more than quadrupled his investment portfolio of biotech stocks over the last three and half years, by identifying winners before the Wall Street professionals given his industry expertise.

Dr. Zhang holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology from Columbia University, an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, and a B.S. in biology from Peking University.

Moderator
Annie Ma – Serial entrepreneur, investor and social activist with business interests in international consulting, education, medicine and media, among others.
As a senior angel investor, fund manager and investment banking professional, Annie has more than 20 years experiences of financial management. Before she started her own companies, Annie worked for UNIDO, Shanghai New Margin Fund Management Co., Ltd., and Air China before she came to further her studies in USA in 1999.

The Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit organization established in 1991, is dedicated to the preservation and development of the legendary Apollo Theater through the Apollo Experience of world-class live performances and education programs that: • honor the influence and advance the contributions of African-American artists; and • advance emerging creative voices across cultural and artistic media Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc.’s vision is to expand the reach of the Apollo Experience to a worldwide audience. The world famous Apollo Theater is so much more than a historic landmark – it is a source of pride and a symbol of the brilliance of American artistic accomplishment. With its rich history and continued significance, the Apollo Theater, considered the bastion of African-American culture and achievement, is one of the most fascinating chronicles in American history. APOLLO THEATER HISTORY ….the Apollo probably exerted a greater influence upon popular culture than any other entertainment venue in the world. For blacks it was the most important cultural institution–not just the greatest black theatre, but a special place to come of age emotionally, professionally, socially, and politically. Ted Fox, “Showtime at the Apollo” The neo-classical theater known today as the Apollo Theater was designed by George Keister and first owned by Sidney Cohen. In 1914, Benjamin Hurtig and Harry Seamon obtained a thirty-year lease on the newly constructed theater calling it Hurtig and Seamon’s New Burlesque Theater. Like many American theaters during this time, African-Americans were not allowed to attend as patrons or to perform. In 1933 Fiorello La Guardia, who would later become New York City’s Mayor, began a campaign against burlesque. Hurtig & Seamon’s was one of many theaters that would close down. Cohen reopened the building as the 125th Street Apollo Theatre in 1934 with his partner, Morris Sussman serving as manager. Cohen and Sussman changed the format of the shows from burlesque to variety revues and redirected their marketing attention to the growing African-American community in Harlem. Frank Schiffman and Leo Brecher took over the Apollo in 1935. The Schiffman and Brecher families would operate the Theater until the late 1970s. The Apollo reopened briefly in 1978 under new management then closed again in November 1979. In 1981, it was purchased by Percy Sutton a prominent lawyer, politician, media and technology executive, and a group of private investors. Under Sutton’s ownership, the Theater was equipped with a recording and television studio. In 1983, the Apollo received state and city landmark status and in 1991, Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc., was established as a private, not-for-profit organization to manage, fund and oversee programming for the Apollo Theater. Today, the Apollo, which functions under the guidance of a Board of Directors, presents concerts, performing arts, education and community outreach programs.

Good News speaks to Bert Askwith on his way to work at 103 years young. Bert is our Good News Business Leader of the Month for his tenacity and being a Good Samaritan.

Campus Coach Lines President and Founder Bert Askwith, Honored by ABA Board of Directors
The American Bus Association Board of Directors honored longtime motorcoach owner/operator and
industry legend Bert Askwith at its spring board meeting May 2 in suburban Washington, D.C. The
presentation was made by ABA Chairman Tom JeBran to salute Askwith for nearly 85 years of
continuous service to the motorcoach industry.

In March, Bert turned 102, celebrating his birthday by going to work in Manhattan where he is President of Campus Coach Lines. Bert founded Campus Coach Lines in 1928 while he was a student at the University of Michigan, taking classmates from Ann Arbor to the east coast at a fraction of the cost of rail travel. The company was so successful that he put himself through college with the money he earned. In 1931, while the Great Depression weakened the economy; Bert moved the business to New York City where it continues operations today, 83 years later.

During his long and distinguished career, Bert has served in a variety of high-profile national and
regional industry leadership positions, including a nearly 20-year tenure on ABA’s Board of Directors.
In 2010 the Board made him an honorary lifetime member. Bert also served as the first Chairman of
the ABA Foundation Board of Governors and continues his service to the ABA Foundation as
Chairman Emeritus. Bert also served for six years as the President of the New York State Bus
Association.

Bert is also known for his generous charitable contributions. Among his favorite charities are the
United Way and his beloved University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

In typical fashion, Bert is always looking ahead, and as he accepted the award, he told his colleagues,
“Thank you for this honor, I am looking forward to working with you for many more years.” ABA Board Chairman Tom JeBran said of his longtime friendship and associate.

Goodman Fiell is a recently formed imprint of the UK-based Carlton Publishing Group. This year, their line of books is being released into the United States by Illinois -based distributor, Continental Sales, Inc..

Charlotte Fiell, and her husband, Peter, teamed up on three of the eight new releases. Charlotte worked with others on three more books. Their Fall 2013 list includes the following books:

1930s Fashion: The Definitive Sourcebook
by Charlotte Fiell and Emmanuelle Dirix

Charlotte, a design historian who has penned numerous best-selling books, and Emmanuelle, a highly regarded fashion historian, curator, and lecturer, crafted a collection of 600 original period photographs and illustrations that completely redefines the appraisal of 1930’s fashion. From the Wall Street Crash to Hollywood, this book shows the influence of culture, economy, and politics on the nostalgic and vintage fashion of a bygone era. In this enchanting book, a world of revolutionary changes in fashion can be found, that both hold up a mirror to the wider concerns of society at the time, and also demonstrates the remarkable ingenuity of designers and home-seamstresses who managed to thrive despite economic constraints and turmoil. This is the decade of the skirt suit, of sportswear-as-daywear and jersey fabrics, of fur coats and matching accessories. It is the decade of so many trends that are, even to this day, eminently wearable.

1940s Fashion: The Definitive Sourcebook
by Emmanuelle Dirix and Charlotte Fiell

Replete with 600 original period photographs and illustrations, this unique look at a decade initially dominated by war and frugality shows how an explosion of contemporary, forward-looking fashions evolved. This book covers every aspect of female fashion from the period, including lacy evening gowns, tailored skirt-suits, luxurious fur jackets, figure-sculpting undergarments, satin negligees and glamorous swimwear. Accompanying the images is an introduction outlining the different themes of the period and each chapter is given a concise introduction. Biographies of all the major designers and fashion houses of the time are also included for an in-depth look at who shaped the 1940’s fashion world. Official film studio shots are included from MGM, Paramount, RKO, and Universal, featuring actresses such as Barbara Stanwyck, Rosalind Russell, Veronica Lake, Joan Bennett, and designers including Dior, Schiaparelli, Edith Head, Lanvin, Adrian, and Lucien Lelong.

Lifestyle Illustration of the 50s
by Ryan Hughes; foreword by David Roach

This dazzling collection of illustrations from the 1950’s captures the work of the decade’s most talented US and UK illustrators and graphic artists. It uniquely offers visual documentation of the social changes occurring back then, as well as the changing fashions, standards, and aspirations of the day.

It celebrates the work of artists who have received little recognition publicly, but who hold cult status for artists across the globe. Featuring over 1,000 beautiful and stylistically diverse illustrations, this volume charts the decade’s progression as the new, younger generation emerged from post-war austerity to shape a new, more aspirational culture. From stylish and urbane young couples in romantic clinches to professional men and women exploring their new-found affluence and growing independence, this book provides an unsurpassed insight into the changing styles, dreams, and social mores of the Fifties.

Technology Brings Human Emotion Into Video Stories; Helps The Movie ‘Make Itself’

New York City, NY, June 20, 2013—Today, Magisto introduced a new component of its patent-pending artificial intelligence technology that furthers its mission to forever improve the personal movie-making process: helping a movie ‘make itself.’

Based on the company’s proprietary artificial intelligence algorithm, Magisto’s Emotion Sense Technology (EST) is able to unlock the emotional power of video editing and production from any smartphone.

The camera phone first made its commercial debut in the mid 1990s. Today with more than a billion smartphones on the planet, myriad devices can shoot and disseminate video in increasingly sophisticated ways. Surprisingly, the actual process of editing and producing movies has changed relatively little since its inception in the early 1900s.

“After more than 100 years, video is fast becoming the most popular medium for chronicling and sharing everyday experiences,” said Oren Boiman, CEO and founder of Magisto. “Since few of us are born directors or movie producers, translating the true emotion of an experience into a movie is really hard. With Magisto’s Emotion Sense Technology, our users movies make themselves, breaking down an extremely sophisticated process into a few clicks, and turning average video into beautiful stories.”

The Magisto algorithm generates a mechanical understanding of what’s actually occurring within the scenes of a video. Using that understanding and minimal input from the user, Magisto adjusts its decision making parameters, altering edits, time warping actions, featuring audio and visual highlights and ultimately defining the arc of a storyline. It then ascribes the selected music and graphical theme for capturing and sharing the emotion in an instant; as easy as snapping a photo.

Over a six-month beta test, which included over 60 million videos, Magisto EST has become smarter, faster and more intuitive in analyzing, identifying and replicating a user’s intended mood. Magisto has been able to refine its artificial intelligence in part because it relies on relatively long-form video and multiple photos, which contain lots of information and inferred guidelines for movie making, unlike shorter, disposable, video that delivers one-dimensional vignettes from a single point in time.

In a recent Magisto poll, 81.8 percent of users agree that their recent Magisto videos match the emotion they intended to convey. Examples of videos that have been created with different mood filters and a video news release can be found here in the Magisto VNR.

Kicking off summer, Magisto also announced that it has added two new themes to its “emotion sensing” catalogue. These themes can assist creators in conveying the appropriate mood in their video stories. “Summer Party” and “Fourth of July” will help users set a hot and carefree tone for the summer. Now Magisto users can create movies from pictures and videos and accurately convey the emotions they feel.

About Magisto
Driven by artificial intelligence and simple user experience, Magisto is a cloud based service for creating and sharing professional quality personal movies. It automatically selects the most compelling moments and, like an expert video editor, weaves them together to convey a story with customized styles and music. Magisto can be used across iOS, Android and the Web, and is the highest-rated video creation app in Google Play and iOS App stores. www.magisto.com/about and

The idea to create the Philippe Hatem Foundation for a Happy Childhood [PHF] came from our profound need to carry the message of Philippe’s life. Those of us who knew him, know that his time on earth was different than for most of us. And all of us, adults and children, all learnt something from this little boy, who seemed to be wiser than most. His loving and compassionate spirit was so magically contagious, that we decided it needed to live on no matter what. His life may have been short, but it was meaningful, and PHF will carry his message of hope, smiles and compassion wherever the Foundation takes us.

The PHF aims to make less fortunate children of the world happier, and to regain the desire to live and mature into good people. As misery sweeps through children’s lives in all kinds of ways, we want to help make a difference. We don’t naively believe we will eradicate human misery all by ourselves… but we do believe that even one person fighting for children can change another’s life, and that one organization could help thousands more.

And so we set on to develop projects and programs that will make a real, tangible impact, one smile at a time. We will focus on what makes children happy, without any kind of discrimination. We also want to bring awareness to children’s situation, in Lebanon and around the world, especially with other children. Some of our programs will involve children directly, so that a fortunate child can help a less fortunate child, with love and compassion. Teaching children how to care for those who are less fortunate will contribute to making them more responsible and caring adults, another lesson we learned from Philippe.

The Board of Directors of the Philippe Hatem Foundation for a Happy Childhood set a series of principles to abide by in taking any decision related to PHF’s work.

Live up to Philippe’s standards, and be inspired by his life.

Focus on making children happy, today, one smile at a time.

Strive to be different and innovative.

Focus on making a real/tangible impact.

Strive to teach children to also be happy from within.

Actively involve fortunate children in making less fortunate children happy.

Help children with no discrimination whatsoever of their race, religion, nationality or political affiliations.

Maximize the use of funds for the benefit of those in need.

A child is a child, no matter where he is from, where he is born, and where he lives. At PHF, we believe it is our responsibility, as citizens of the world, to reach out beyond frontiers and across borders. PHF was established in Lebanon on 13 April 2010 to cover the activities of the Foundation throughout the Middle East; in order to fulfill our international objectives, we are currently working on establishing the Philippe Hatem Foundation for a Happy Childhood in the United States of America and in Africa, both of which will become a reality before the end of 2011.
