Disney Publishing Worldwide Celebrates the Launch of Melissa De la Cruz Studio in New York City  

Disney Publishing Worldwide, book industry professionals, media and well-wishers came together for the launch of Melissa De la Cruz (MEL) Studio at a reception held at Versa in New York City with special guests Melissa De la Cruz and Mariko Tamaki, author of one of the first Melissa de la Cruz Studio projects, Anne of Greenville.

Notable attendees included Disney SVP and Publisher Tonya Arguto, Disney Editorial Director Kieran Scott, 3Arts manager and producer RichardAbate, Sloomoo Institute founder Karen Robinovitz, Overbrook Management CEO Andrew Goffe, author Gayle Forman, influencers Aaron Paul and Jean Shafiroff and gender queer celebrity author Jason June (who has a forthcoming book from Melissa de la Cruz Studio).

Disney Publishing Worldwide partnered with New York Times bestselling author Melissa De la Cruz to launch a 360 media and publishing initiative called Melissa de la Cruz Studio. Under this collaboration, Melissa De la Cruz works with new and established writers to develop new original stories, with the intention of this IP being developed into TV/Film content for The Walt Disney Company. Several projects from Melissa De la Cruz Studio are currently in development for Disney.

Accomplished author, Melissa De la Cruz is the founder and principal of Melissa De la Cruz Studio at Disney Publishing, which will create and package books in every genre and age range but with a special focus on middle grade and young adult, from a diverse group of new and established writers that will appeal to all the platforms across the Disney company for a global audience. The projects will reflect Melissa’s humor and taste and range from adventure, romance and fantasy to contemporary stories.

Designed to supplement Disneyland in Anaheim, California, which had opened in 1955, the complex was developed by Walt Disney in the 1960s. “The Florida Project”, as it was known, was intended to present a distinct vision with its own diverse set of attractions. Walt Disney’s original plans also called for the inclusion of an “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow” (EPCOT), a planned community intended to serve as a test bed for new city-living innovations. Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, during the initial planning of the complex. After his death, the company wrestled with the idea of whether to bring the Disneyworld project to fruition. However, Walt’s older brother, Roy, came out of retirement to make sure Walt’s biggest dream was realized. Construction started in 1967, with the company instead building a resort similar to Disneyland, abandoning the experimental concepts for a planned community. Magic Kingdom was the first theme park to open in the complex, in 1971, followed by Epcot (1982), Disney’s Hollywood Studios (1989), and Disney’s Animal Kingdom (1998). It was Roy who insisted the name of the entire complex be changed from Disneyworld to Walt Disney World, ensuring that people would remember that the project was Walt’s dream.

In 2018, Walt Disney World was the most visited vacation resort in the world, with an average annual attendance of more than 58 million.[4] The resort is the flagship destination of Disney’s worldwide corporate enterprise and has become a popular staple in American culture. In 2020, Walt Disney World was chosen to host the NBA Bubble for play of the 2019–20 season of the NBA to resume at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Zhen Joy Lin Dame of St. John of Jerusalem and president of World Water Rescue Foundation and Vice President of Good News Broad Cast was invited to watch Red Poppy Ladies’ production of Mulan which was invited to perform at three Olympic Games( Beijing, London and Athens) and Washington DC Kennedy Art Center, Sydney Opera House and Broad show last year and about 50 different countries.

The New York Times praised the show calling it: “Exciting, Sharp & Graceful.” The New York Times gave the show a score of 9.99 out of 10. The brilliance of Mulan is not only told in the story of how she saved her father and country but also through the themes of Peace, Harmony, Love and Joy to the World.  This is shown through her filial piety (Chinese: 孝xian) , as it is called in Confucian philosophy and through the brave, courageous, and bold Red Drum which shakes the Sky, Earth, Water, Fire and even the universe to bridge ancient and modern times, and between East and West, forming a family. Dame Zhen Joy Lin is the representation of the modern Mulan, of which is a symbol of peace, love and joy. This correlates with the United Nations International Day of Peace.

The new Disney-Pixar movie The Good Dinosaur had its world premiere Tuesday night in Hollywood.
Sam Elliott is one of the stars of the film, voicing a T-rex. When asked to compare the premiere to ones he’s attended in the past, the veteran actor told ABC Radio, “It’s nice to be out here promoting a family film, I’ll tell you that.”
Raymond Ochoa is the star of the film — he plays a nice dinosaur, an Apatosaurus. But he said he learned if he were to run into a dino in real life, his first instinct would be to “run in the opposite direction.”
The Good Dinosaur opens the day before Thanksgiving.
