The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)  convened from Monday, 14 July, to Wednesday, 23 July 2025, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. This includes the three-day ministerial segment of the forum from Monday, 21 July, to Wednesday, 23 July 2025, as part of the High-level Segment of ECOSOC.

The theme of the HLPF is “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind”.

The 2025 HLPF with full appreciation for the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the Sustainable Development Goals, conduct in-depth reviews of: SDG 3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages; SDG 5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; SDG 8. Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all; SDG 14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development; and SDG 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.

The 2025 HLPF brought together ministerial and high-level representatives of governments, as well as a wide range of expertise and stakeholders, including heads of UN entities, academics and other experts, and representatives of major groups and other stakeholders. The countries presenting voluntary national reviews (VNRs) of their 2030 Agenda implementation at the national level can be found here.

Additional platforms, including side events, VNR Labs, special events, and exhibitions will be organized around the 2025 HLPF.

As of 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 18th, there are 208,097 confirmed COVID-19 cases in New York City and 57,702 confirmed cases in Brooklyn. As of 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 18th, there were 17,507 confirmed deaths citywide, with an additional 4,692 probable deaths, including 5,307 confirmed deaths, and an 1,658 additional probable deaths in Brooklyn.

EDUCATION
Mayor de Blasio and Chancellor Carranza announced that New York City public schools are remote learning and are closed until September 2020. The DOE will provide computers and internet access to every student who needs it. Call (718) 935-5100 (press 5). Parents and guardians of students with disabilities can send questions to specialeducation@schools.nyc.gov. As per Mayor de Blasio, non-public school New York City students with disabilities are eligible for free iPads.
“Let’s Learn NYC!”, the new educational public television program produced by the WNET Group in partnership with the New York City Department of Education (DOE), features lessons for children in 3K through second grade that will supplement remote learning. More information can be found here.
Women.NYC, which is powered by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC), released a downloadable guide for free and low-cost tech courses in New York City.
NYN Media has a series of upcoming free webinars for those in the non-profit community.
Generation Citizen has provided free online resources to stay educated during the pandemic.
Mayor de Blasio and School Chancellor Carranza announced a summer learning plan in which schools will begin to notify families in June if their student(s) need or are recommended to participate.

HEALTH
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) has partnered with select CVS and Walgreens pharmacies to make FREE naloxone kits available to any individual who requests one. Click here for a list of participating pharmacies across the five boroughs.
As per Mayor de Blasio, COVID-19 testing has been made available to all New Yorkers. COVID-19 testing sites are available in your area with new ones being added on an ongoing basis. To find the one nearest you, visit the state website [New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) website], the City’s website [New York City’s COVID-19 Information Portal], or type “COVID testing near me” in Google Maps.

New York City is now offering free, on-site diagnostic coronavirus tests to all 169 nursing homes across the five boroughs.
DOHMH has provided a website with data on COVID-19, updated on an ongoing basis.
Mayor de Blasio announced an emergency financial relief program for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence to provide funding for immediate safety, economic, and housing needs currently exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Helpful resources that are currently available include the agency website, the “NYC HOPE” resource directory, and the Resources for Survivors During COVID-19 page.

The New York Peace Institute has online resources to mitigate stress with tools such as meditation.
As per Governor Cuomo, hospitals will be prioritizing COVID-19 testing for children showing symptoms of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C).
If you are feeling sick, please wait three to four days before contacting a doctor. Use telemedicine services BEFORE going to the doctor’s office, urgent care, or the ER. Thanks to our advocacy and Governor Cuomo’s leadership, co-pays for telemedicine consultations have been eliminated due to COVID-19. Call (800) 633-4227 or your doctor for more information if you are on Medicaid. Whether you utilize Medicaid, private insurance, or are a self-payer, options are offered across many specialty areas. Urgent care telemedicine is available with New York-Presbyterian, Mount Sinai, or NYU Langone. Mental health telemedicine is available with Columbia Doctors. Diabetes telemedicine help is available with NYC Health + Hospitals. If you know other services, email askeric@brooklynbp.nyc.gov.
The City has created a new, online portal that will allow New Yorkers to self-report COVID-19 data, helping the City to communicate with affected members of the public and assist in the identification of areas that may require an enhanced response. By going online or calling 311, New Yorkers can quickly input information about themselves and legal guardians can add information for children or adults in their care. New Yorkers can update their status at any time through the portal or by calling 311. The portal is available in 11 languages: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish, and Urdu. It is not intended as a mechanism for providing medical advice or treatment and should not be relied upon as a method to obtain medical care or emergency service. Personal information will be stored securely and only accessible to City employees protecting public health. It will not be accessible by ICE or used for law enforcement or any other purpose.
New York Road Runners has released an online portal to keep you “Active at Home.” Additionally, their new online resource, NYRR Striders at Home, offers exercises and activities for our senior community.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT
The New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) launched a small business hotline to answer the most pressing questions of small business owners as they prepare to re-open. Call (888) SBS-4NYC or (888) 727-4692.
Distribution sites for small businesses looking to obtain face coverings, are now open. Visit nyc.gov/business for more information across the boroughs.
SBS has published plain language industry guides as a tool for small businesses to adhere to the latest mandatory guidance and to share best practices. Visit nyc.gov/business for more information on the guides.
The Public Service Commission approved an increased bill-credit program for low-income Con Edison customers to ensure that they can crank up their air conditioning.
The New York Forward Loan Fund is open for pre-application, making $100 million available to small businesses, with a focus on MWBEs and those with 20 or fewer employees that didn’t receive Federal PPP loans. Small businesses and non-profits that are in industries and regions that have not yet reopened can begin preparing a pre-application here.
Unemployed New Yorkers can access support at the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA)’s new website, NYSBA.org/legalhelp, which was set up to provide resources for filing an unemployment claim. If needed, NYSBA will match people with a pro bono attorney.
The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce has launched the Bring Back Brooklyn Fund to support small businesses that have been shut out of other COVID-19-related loan programs, with 65 percent earmarked for minority and/or women-owned business enterprises (MWBE). The Bring Back Brooklyn Fund will offer no-interest recovery loans between $500 and $30,000. You can contribute to the effort here.
The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) launched the NY COVID-19 Legal Resource Hotline to help New York City residents impacted by COVID-19 get answers to their legal questions on issues including unemployment benefits, employee rights, housing, public benefits, consumer debt, advance planning, stimulus payments, and special education issues. Call (929) 356-9582 Monday-Friday 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM to leave a message with your name and contact information or visit nylag.org/hotline for more information.
Tax Day has been pushed back to Wednesday, July 15th. The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is now providing virtual and assisted self-prep free tax prep services. New Yorkers who earned $64,000 or less in 2019 are eligible for Virtual Free Tax Preparation with a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)/Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) certified preparer. New Yorkers who earned $69,000 or less in 2019 are eligible for free Assisted Self-Preparation; filers will need access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone; a stable internet connection. Services are currently offered in English, Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, Russian, and Arabic, with others to come.
DCWP’s Office of Financial Empowerment has transitioned all financial counseling and coaching programs to offer services remotely. Book an appointment here.

FOOD PANTRY/FOOD ASSISTANCE
All students who would have received a free or reduced-price meal at school are now eligible for additional food assistance through Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT). This includes undocumented students, students whose private schools participate in the National School Lunch Program, and students in districts that implement the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). New York City families will receive an additional $5.70 for every day school has been closed to purchase foods available through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
School sites are open for grab-and-go meals this week, from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM, outside of main entrances of every school building. The program is now open to anyone who wants food, no questions asked. Go to schools.nyc.gov, or text “FOOD” or “COMIDA” to 877-877 for lists of where meals are being served.
New Yorkers can use their SNAP benefits to order online.
The City has streamlined the home delivery of meals to seniors and is working to support our food pantries, which are critical partners in these efforts. In the interim, you can find a list of key resources at nyc.gov/GetFood or by calling 311 and saying “Get Food.”
Hunter College New York City Food Policy Center has partnered with Share Meals, Hunger Free America, BetaNYC, and Plentiful to compile a listing and guide on food resources available to New Yorkers.

GENERAL
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will only offer services in person by reservation in regions entering Phase 3 of the New York Forward reopening plan and will be available for limited transactions that cannot be done online or by mail or drop box. When your region enters Phase 3, you will be able to make a reservation at dmv.ny.gov/reservation.

Governor Cuomo announced that religious services with 10 or fewer people will be permitted in New York State.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management and the Mayor’s Office of Animal Welfare announced the launch of the NYC COVID-19 Pet Hotline. Pet Hotline operators can be reached directly at (877) 204-8821, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily.
All publicly permitted events that were scheduled in the month of June have been cancelled.

Free and low-cost childcare options during the COVID-19 crisis are available through Workers Need Childcare, for parents and caregivers in New York City’s essential workforce.

While all Brooklyn Public Library branches are closed until further notice, services and programming are still available online at their website.

HOUSING
A statewide eviction moratorium is currently in effect, including residential and commercial properties as well as foreclosures, according to the Office of Court Administration. The eviction moratorium has been extended to Thursday, August 20th, and Governor Cuomo has also announced the State is banning late payments or fees for missed rent payments during the eviction moratorium, as well as allowing renters facing financial hardship due to COVID-19 to use their security deposit as payment and repay their security deposit over time.
Utilities have been ordered to not shut off service for gas, water, or electricity. Internet services will not be cut off during this time.
For New Yorkers requiring quarantine or isolation, NYC Health + Hospitals is offering free hotel rooms for up to 14 days if there is a need for a place to isolate. Call (844) NYC-4NYC (844-692-4692) and press “0”.
NYCHA’s journal has information about how they are responding to COVID-19. Information is available here about hardship reductions for NYCHA residents struggling to pay rent.
As per Mayor de Blasio, all tax lien sales will be postponed until late June.
National Grid customers should be aware of a phone scam demanding immediate bill payment and threatening service disconnection. Learn ways to protect yourself and your family here.

TRANSPORTATION
Mayor de Blasio announced that the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT)’s Staten Island Ferry will return to 30-minute service frequency during the morning (5:00 AM to 9:00 AM) and evening (3:30 PM to 7:30 PM) rush hours.
The Driver Resource Center launched by the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) offers a wide range of services to all TLC-licensed drivers and medallion owner-drivers.
Alternate Side Parking (ASP) is suspended until Sunday, June 21st. Parking meters are still in effect.
There is currently no subway service from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM to allow for cleaning and disinfecting of trains and stations. The “MTA Overnight” page provides details on the service changes.

Kudos to WXXI Public Broadcasting for airing “Asian Americans,” a five-part series to take us back in time from the 1800s to present. Knowing and learning history lessons will teach us to make better decisions today and for our future. Below is a description of each episode. We have partnered with WXXI to spotlight local Asian Americans from Rochester, New York. Please tune in and feel free to forward to your families, friends and networks!

Episode 1 – Breaking Ground

Monday 5/11 at 8 p.m.

In an era of exclusion and U.S. empire, new immigrants arrive from China, India, Japan, the Philippines and beyond. Barred by anti-Asian laws they become America’s first “undocumented immigrants,” yet build railroads that dazzle on the silver screen, and take their fight for equality to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Episode 2 – Question of Loyalty

Monday 5/11 at 9 p.m.

An American-born generation straddles their country of birth and their parents’ homelands in Japan and Korea. Those loyalties are tested during World War II, when families are imprisoned in detention camps, and brothers find themselves on opposite sides of the battle lines.

Episode 3 – Good Americans

Tuesday 5/12 at 8 p.m.

During the Cold War years, Asian Americans are simultaneously heralded as a Model Minority, and targeted as the perpetual foreigner. It is also a time of bold ambition, as Asian Americans aspire for the first time to national political office and a coming culture-quake simmers beneath the surface.

Episode 4 – Generation Rising

Tuesday 5/12 at 9 p.m.

During a time of war and social tumult, as young generation fights for equality in the fields, on campuses and in the culture, and claims a new identity: Asian Americans. The war’s aftermath brings new immigrants and refugees who expand the population and the definition of Asian America.

Episode 5 – Breaking Through

Tuesday 5/12 at 10 p.m.

At the turn of the new millennium, the national conversation turns to immigration, race, and economic disparity. As the U.S. becomes more diverse, yet more divided, a new generation of Asian Americans tackle the question, how do we as a nation move forward together?

The last World’s Fair was hosted in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in 1965 and was themed “Peace Through Understanding.” Millions of visitors attended the fair to explore the countries that were represented from around the world.

Now, more than 50 years later, Schneps Communications will be reimagining one of the most iconic fairs by hosting “The World’s Fare” at CitiField. Over 100 vendors will come together in New York City’s most diverse borough and unite through authentic food, drink and music curated by the city’s leading culinary advocates. The ballpark is centrally located in New York City, near the 7 line and a short distance from Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The location is intended to bring back memories of the World’s Fairs of the past, by being in the shadow of the landmarks and structures that were built around them, including the Unisphere and the New York State Pavilion.

“Our political climate has never called for a greater opportunity to embrace and celebrate ethnic and cultural diversity. The Festival embraces everything great about New York City, its people and food,” said Joshua Schneps, The World’s Fare President and Organizer.

In addition to the food and drink offerings, throughout the weekend live music will be performed by bands representing about a dozen cultures as well as a SUMO demonstration from World Champions, art installations including Lego art, 4 dimensional drawings, street art and painted scripture.
Event Highlights Chefs, restaurants and street food vendors representing as many as 100 cultures.

An expertly curated international beer garden will offer tastings of over 80 craft beers from about 45 breweries.

Scholarships to attend The World’s Fare, free of charge, for 4 food vendors selected by committee members and tastemakers.

Awards for best food determined by committee members and tastemakers.

Visitors’ choice award for top vendor determined by attendees.

Art, music and activities embracing and transcending many different cultures and age groups are an integral part of the festival.

The World’s Fare will be a family-friendly event running from 11am – 8pm on both days. Tickets are being sold for entry for access to vendors and activities as well as to the international beer garden in a separate, ticketed, over-21 area. Tickets are available online at www.theworldsfare.nyc. ;

Harris also conceptualized and organized The Black Family Reunion Cook Book. Her book, High on the
Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America, was the International Association for Culinary Professionals 2012 prize winner for culinary history. Her most recent book is My Soul Looks Back: A Memoir.

K.F. Seetoh is a prominent food consultant, photographer, writer and cable television host based in Singapore. He is best known for creating the popular hawker food guide and street food halls, Makansutra and is the creator and curator of The World Street Food Congress. He was also tapped as consultant to Anthony Bourdain, who was working to develop an international market on Manhattan’s West Side.

Liza de Guia is the Founder and Chief Storyteller of food. curated., which is an award-winning long form food documentary series launched in 2009. I retired from the New York State Dept of Education in 2010 where I was a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for 29.5 years. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

I am a Certified United States Bowling Congress Olympic Bowling Coach Bronze Level. I spearheaded the A Different Approach Inter-Generational (participants range in age from 4 yrs to 81 yrs old) Education Facilitation and Bowling Program in 1991. The Program has the largest number of Certified Olympic Bowling Coaches in one Program in the World. We are dedicated to Instilling in our young people respect and understanding of our Senior Citizens while allowing our Seniors to impart their wisdom to the next generation. Promoting fitness, camaraderie, respect and lasting friendships.

The A Different Approach Mayoral Campaign is a very positive Grassroots Campaign. Our aim is Growth of this Great City. Putting an End to the hopelessness and helplessness that has been plaguing our City for far too long!

I Endorse the 5 E’s: Equality, Education, Employment leads to Economic Empowerment.

I am a strong advocate of increasing the Quality of the City’s Educational System. I am very much aware of the fact that it is unacceptable that:
a. four out of ten of our students are dropping out of high school.
b. 80% of those who do graduate require remediation prior to being allowed to take college course for credits.

•Equality: Addressing Awareness, Sensitivity & Inclusion.

•Education: Review and Revamp the NYC School System to Address the deficiencies in the Service Delivery that has resulted in 80% of the graduating seniors have deficits that are so severe that they require remediation prior to being allowed to take regular college classes. That’s 11,000 students who graduate are not prepared: 21st Century Technology or Vocational Training. Main goal will be to further decrease the dropout rate but more so, elevate the preparedness of the Graduates by increasing the skill levels.

•Employment: Prepare Workforce for the Jobs of the 21st Century by including all of the Process Owners: Teachers; Parents; Students; Guidance Counselors; Administrators; as well as Business and Industry (who can not only provide accurate, current Industry needs assessments but Internships {work experience models}). Provide Employment opportunities for the current workforce many of whom are either unemployed or under-employed.

This will result in a dramatic increase in Economic Empowerment.

I am sure that with the implementation of new strategies we can curtail the trend toward prison for our young people that has been negatively impacting the city’s economy as well as the morale of our citizens. We need them paying taxes and F.I.C.A not bail and going to jail.
