The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as “Euro-English”.
In the first year, “s” will replace the soft “c”.. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard “c” will be dropped in favour of “k”. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome “ph” will be replaced with “f”. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Highlighting works that connect with the listener on visceral level, “The Romantic Spirit” features the composers who, despite their immense technical gifts, manage to speak with an honest, clear, and passionate voice. The guitar was described by Schubert as a “mini-orchestra”, and it is an excellent vehicle to explore the changing harmonies, textures, rhythms and emotions characteristic of the last two centuries of art music. In addition to compositions by the seminal Romantic, Frederic Chopin, this program will feature works by Giuliani, Villa-Lobos, Tarrega, Barrios, and original work by the performer.

Guitarist and composer David Temple is a graduate of the Music School at Eastern Michigan University and is Vice President and Artistic Director for the Mid-Hudson Classical Guitar Society. He has presented concerts for the Festival of the Arts at Mohonk, the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society, the Ulster Chamber Music Series, the Foothills Performing Arts Center, and many others. His mission is to create concerts full of color and variety, appealing to the newcomer as well as the aficionado. He has recorded four albums, highlighting four centuries of music, including his original compositions and arrangements.

David’s original music has been used internationally in films, television, and other media. In addition to instrumental music, he is composer and lyricist for two musicals in conjunction with playwright Rosary O’Neill. Both productions premiered at Bard’s Fisher Center under the direction of Deborah Temple, his wife. Their “Degas in New Orleans” had its NYC debut at the Arthur Seelen Theater on Times Square in January 2015, receiving strong reviews — and an invitation from the Sorbonne in Paris to present the production at their amphitheater.

Cornell Street Studios is located at 168 Cornell Street, Kingston, NY. It has been a multi-studio complex for the arts since 2007, created by Ken Darmstadt. In December 2008, his daughter Renée Darmstadt began planning art events for the space, has added fitness classes, and has spearheaded a variety of broad-based community events. Géza von Habsburg-Lothringen studied at the Universities of Fribourg and Bern (Switzerland), Munich and Florence and has a Ph.D. in History of Art and Archeology. He was Chairman of Christie’s in Switzerland and in Europe for 18 years; taught at the New York School of Design; at the Bard Graduate Center for the Decorative Art; at New York University; and lectured for a decade at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He published 15 books on the History of Collecting, Russian Art and Fabergé, and organized five international exhibitions attracting over 2 million visitors.

At present he serves as Visiting Professor at Shijitsu University, Okayama (Japan); Fabergé Guest Curator at the Virginia Museum of Art, where he wrote the catalogue of its collection of Russian Art and organized the exhibition “Fabergé Revealed”; and Curatorial Director of the Fabergé Company. As President of the International Friends of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, he speaks regularly on Habsburg family history, artistic patronage and collecting.

He is President of the International Friends of the Budapest Museum of Applied Art; Advisory Board Member of the Hermitage Foundation; of the Fabergé Museum in St. Petersburg; and Board Member of the Friends of Dresden.

The march began Sunday afternoon at the Place de la Republique, near the Charlie Hebdo offices where 12 people were killed Wednesday.

French officials say about 1.3 million people huddled in the windy streets — some appearing solemn, some upbeat — marching with French flags and “Je suis Charlie” — “I am Charlie” — signs. Some sang and clapped, and portions of the crowd spontaneously burst into applause as they marched.

It was the largest demonstration in French history, according to officials.

The march broke up into three sections — one down Boulevard Voltaire, one down Rue Bastille, and the third down Rue Philippe Auguste. All three marches later reunited at Place de la Nation.

Cafes and bistros along the route overflowed with marchers who stopped to rest along the walk, some carrying handmade signs reading “No Fear” and “Not Afraid.”

The march was a response to the massacre at the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical weekly newspaper, and a subsequent pair of hostage situations Friday, one of which involved the suspected gunmen. Seventeen people were killed during the three days of violence.

French police say they took extra precautions during the march, with more than 2,000 officers in the area and another 2,000 officers and 1,000 soldiers stationed throughout Paris.

Gerard Araud, the French ambassador to the United States, told ABC News that it is “very likely” that the country will face more attempted terrorist attacks.

“We have to consider the threat that we are facing. You have in Europe thousands of young radicals — thousands of them — and of course, we are democracies and you don’t arrest somebody because of his ideas,” he said.

Araud called it a “very specific threat,” noting the hundreds of Frenchmen who went to Syria or Yemen for military training with various extremist groups.

“We don’t know when these people are coming back and whether they are coming back and we don’t know when they’re — whether these radical people are going suddenly to become terrorists,” he said. “So for the moment … it’s very likely, unfortunately, that we are going to face other attempts of terrorist acts.”

8TH GRADERS AT ELVERSON’S TWIN VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL TO MEET “HER”

About 80 eighth-grade students at the Twin Valley Middle School, 770 Clymer Hill Road in Elverson, Chester County, have been talking and studying about her beauty, performance and European flair for several months.

Four teachers at Twin Valley, Rachel Smith, Jon Regino, Donna Kertis and Jennifer George, have been incorporating her unique qualities into their language arts, algebra and science classes as the focus of their studies and curriculum programs.

On May 4, they’ll finally get to see her in person when she comes to the school to meet her admirers. The boys and girls will greet the subject of their studies – the all-new, $229,000 (base price) McLaren MP4-12C supercar, the retail automobile that was designed using knowledge and technological breakthroughs gained from nearly five decades of McLaren participation in Formula One racing.

“This project started because of a fundamental belief that I hold that education must be real, relevant and rigorous. Once I told the youngsters that I saw the MP4-12C, I realized how easy it would be to teach using the car as a curricular guide,” said Smith, a language arts teacher, who has been using the McLaren as a topic in her class work since February. “While many of the students love cars and know much about them, none have ever seen a McLaren, and they’re very excited to experience it in person.

“In science class, the students talked about the scientific method and its relationship to the company’s design of this perfect car; in math class, they’ve discussed the drag speed coefficient and perfect mathematical equations the car must offer; and in language arts, they’ve read and written persuasively, informatively and in narrative about this innovative automobile. They’ve been learning and now they’ll get a chance to meet the supercar that inspired it all,” “Smith said.

The excitement will start at Twin Valley Middle School when Chad Sierer, Sales Manager of McLaren Philadelphia, 1631 West Chester Pike, West Chester, one of only nine McLaren dealerships in the United States, drives up to the school on May 4.
