The T.S. Monk Sextet’s highly anticipated live album with seven songs is characterized by the steady pulse and groove that the world has come to know and love as the “T.S. Monk Sextet Sound”.

Two Continents One Groove is out now on Storyville Records.

Monk, also known as “Toot”, leads his sextet with an innovative and dynamic approach. Since 1992, the drummer has worked exclusively with his co-players, making the sound of the sextet incredibly tight. When they roll out their arsenal, they soar and swing, and are indeed exciting to hear. In that regard, it might be quite surprising to learn that this is Monk’s very first live album!

“This is my first live recording, ever! It’s daunting and an uncertain kind
of product. Most live albums aren’t that good. I’ve been lucky to always
have great people working with me.”

Cat. #: 1018530
Format: Digital & CD
Release: 17-June-2022
Storyville Records
www.storyvillerecords.com

The seven songs on the album are taken from two performances at two similar jazz rooms over a two-year period; three are from “Harlem’s Jazz Shrines Festival: Jazzmobile presents Minton’s Playhouse” at Ginny’s Supper Club on May 7, 2014, while others were recorded at Marians Jazzroom in Bern, Switzerland on April 24, 2016.

Drummer, percussionist, composer, producer and bandleader, T. S. Monk has taken his place in the pantheon of jazz royalty, to which he was born. The swing is DNA inherited and absorbed in this master drummer’s persona.

Monk’s sextet consists of some of the best jazz musicians in the business, each bringing something special to the table. Willie Williams on tenor saxophone is the original member of the sextet, who came up under the tutelage of Grover Washington, Jr. Additionally, we have the Chicago native, Kenny Davis on bass, who has worked with notables such as Cassandra Wilson and Kevin Eubanks, trumpeter Josh Evans, multi-reedist Patience Higgins, guitarist Dave Stryker and pianist and composer Helen Sung, a 2021 Guggenheim Fellow.

Two Continents One Groove is a masterpiece, so follow him to a new
promised land. As he states:

“If there’s one thing this album is, it’s swingin’! I hope you agree.”

Introduction

From improving the relationships that we have with others to boosting our mental health, practicing gratitude can prove to be a game-changer. When you live your life with gratitude, you’re in a position to realize the small wins such as a stranger assisting to hold the door for you, or the bus arriving on time. These small moments string together to develop a feeling of well-being which gradually reinforces your ability to notice that thankfulness is the key to happiness. Enhancing the capacity for thankfulness is not difficult. Instead, it only requires practice. In this article, you will find out the benefits of gratitude and several tips on practicing gratitude.

Benefits of Gratitude

There are a myriad of positive benefits associated with practicing gratefulness. For instance, gratitude makes people happier, counteracts suicidal thoughts and depression, and generally improves people’s relationships. Gratitude helps to keep us tethered to reality by reminding us of the interdependence and interconnection of all things. By doing so, it helps us to remain grounded and centred. Gratitude can also lift people’s spirits and give them comfort when they are going through tough times.

Practicing thankfulness helps to mitigate scarcity, fear, and the feeling of not being in control. Even in the darkest moments, gratitude reminds us to be thankful which subsequently provides us with an attitude of being more generous and positive when the going gets tough.

Tips on Practicing Gratitude

Have a daily journal of gratitude

It is crucial to start your day with thankfulness. Have a daily journal by your bedside when you wake up and write down the little things that you are thankful for. When you do this constantly for a month, you will realize positive differences in your general mood and how your days progress. remind yourself of the benefits, grace, and gifts that you enjoy. By recalling the moments of gratitude attributed to normal events, important people in your life, and your attributes, you can realize the potential to embrace a sustainable thankfulness theme in your life.

Express your thankfulness to others

Expressing your thankfulness to others can help to strengthen your relationship with others. Always be thankful when your family members, friends, or partner do things that you appreciate. When you meditate on the relationship with your friends, siblings, parents, children, or work partners, always ask yourself three questions:

What did I receive from someone?

What did I give to someone?

What difficulty and troubles did I cause to someone?

See the beauty in people and pay compliments

Putting a smile on a person’s face is always a nice gesture. When you give a respectful and kind compliment to someone, I can go a long way in making their day. In the process, it can make you feel good as well. Always appreciate the beauty in people and make them understand that you see them for who they are.

Wrapping It Up

It is normal to give into the fear of feelings of scarcity and fear-mongering. It is normal to limit the exposure you have to content that fills you up with negative energy. Instead, to achieve the key to happiness, choose content that fills you with joy, focuses on the things that are going right, and always be thankful for the things that you have. Become creative and ask yourself – how would I want to appear when things get tough? Practicing thankfulness is a choice that you can make every day.

Patricia Duff and Richard Cohen and Michael and Lori Milken
with special performances by
Dianne Reeves, Billy Idol, The Company Men and other surprises
at the
Parrish Art Museum
on
Saturday, August 27, 2016

WHAT:
Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF), a nonprofit organization which remains steadfast in its commitment to identify and fund groundbreaking cancer research programs to save the lives of millions, hosted its annual gala at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, NY on Saturday, August 27, 2016. The event’s Challenge Research Award raised over $3.5 million in support of the foundation’s work.

The gala was hosted in support of the 12th Annual Charles Evans PCF Pro-Am Tennis Tournament being held from August 26 – 28, 2016, named after the successful entrepreneur who constantly turned tragic events throughout his life into philanthropic causes. The gala evening was a wonderful night of dining, dancing and filled with loads of surprises. The event featured special musical performances by Grammy award-winning singer Dianne Reeves, double platinum recording artist Billy Idol, and nationally recognized pop vocal group The Company Men, with a special performance by Francis Collins, Director of National Institutes of Health. 100 percent of the funds raised throughout the evening went to supporting groundbreaking discoveries in cancer research.

Notable attendees included: Michael & Lori Milken (Founder), Dianne Reeves (Performer), Billy Idol (Performer), The Company Men (Performers), Leon and Debra Black, Bonnie Pfeifer Evans, Ken and Maria Fishel, Jeff and Mei Sze Greene, Susan and John Kean, David and Julia Koch, Francine LeFrak, Rick Friedberg, Dr. Richard Merkin, Glenn and Jennifer Myles, Joel Pashcow, Artie and Selma Rabin, Jonathan and Sheryl Sokoloff, Lester Cook (Pro), Jonathan Erlich (Pro), Murphy Jensen (Pro), Scott Lipsky (Pro), Andreas Siljestrom (Pro), Mitch Modell, Frank Luntz, Dr. Jonathan W. Simons (President & CEO, Prostate Cancer Foundation), Dr. Francis Collins, Eric and Aerin Zinterhofer, Jim Coleman and Cynthia Ott, Dean and Roxanne Palin, Brent and Laura Nicklas, Bill Finneran, Lew and Rita Ranieri, Sally Quinn and Jackie Rogers.

The night began with a short quiz by the Founder of the Prostate Cancer Foundation Michael Milken, with guests curiously participating from their seats. Milken then introduced Jan Haber, PCF’s Vice President of Events, to the stage. Haber welcomed guests to the event and thanked them for supporting the very important work of the PCF, after which she introduced the evening’s first performer to the stage, Grammy-award winning singer Dianne Reeves, who performed a few of her celebrated jazz songs to the delight of the audience.

Reeves’ performance was followed by a short speech by Michael Milken on how far PCF has come since its founding, and how much of a difference the foundation’s work does. A video was shown highlighting the foundation’s progress and its aim to make prostate cancer an illness to “find in the history books”. Next, a few words were spoken by PCF’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Jonathan W. Simons. Dr. Simons touched on the progress in gene research and how it has made it possible to identify the drivers behind the disease, in the fight against not only prostate cancer but all types of cancer.

The evening’s next performance was held by The Company Men, who performed a Motown medley, consisting of their interpretation of much loved songs by artists such as Simon & Garfunkel and Billy Joel. The vocal group had come all the way from Los Angeles to perform at the event, which they said they were honored to attend and being able to support. Following The Company Men was a surprise performance by the Director of National Institutes of Health, Dr. Francis Collins, who started off mentioning the nationwide cancer study that is currently being conducted in order to understand how to prevent and identify cancer risk factors at an early stage. Dr. Collins encouraged everyone to join in on this “unprecedented adventure”, before taking out his guitar for a surprise performance of Del Shannon’s “Runaway” in his own version, called “DNA”.

A live auction was also held to support a young scientist. Attendees were asked to donate $75,000 per year to support the research of a young scientist and his or her research in the fight toward prostate cancer. This was followed by an appearance by Mitch Modell, who presented the foundation with a check for $141,ooo on behalf of Modell’s Sporting Goods and all of its customers.

Michael Milken rounded up the evening’s lineup of performances and appearances by extending a heartfelt thank you to all performers, attendees, donors, hosts, pro tennis players and amateurs for making it an unforgettable evening in the support of finding a cure for prostate cancer. To top off the evening, a much anticipated musical performance was held by superstar Billy Idol, who kicked off his performance with crowd favorite “Cradle of Love”.

The Weekend’s Pro-Am Tennis Champions were: Ricky Sandler and Rick Leach, Alex Norcross and Alex Bogomolov Jr., Dick Merkin and Rohan Bopanna, Bill Finneran and Graydon Oliver.
This wonderful event, returning for its tenth year, sees 32 charity amateur players take to the courts against members of the ATP Tour over two exciting days of round robin competition. Guests and participants enjoy dining and socializing with the purpose of raising funds for the PCF in its efforts to eradicate prostate cancer, which affects one in six American men. The event kicked off on Friday with a cocktail party and dinner at the home of Julia and David Koch in Southampton. On Saturday, the first three rounds of the Pro AM tournament took place, followed by a lunch at the Palin residence.
Larry Leeds ABOUT: The Charles Evans PCF Pro-Am Tennis Tour consists of four exciting tournaments each year that are calendared during peak season at each venue. Each location brings an opportunity to provide not only a unique and individual experience for the amateur player but provides a platform to the community to generate awareness of prostate cancer and the work of the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

The PCF Pro-AM Tennis Tournaments has raised over $12.5 million to date over 13 years. The Pro-Am Tour is a fitting memorial to the life of Charles Evans. He was committed to helping others, turning his personal tragedies into philanthropic causes. Charles Evans, an avid tennis player, would be proud of what is being done to fight prostate cancer through these events. When his father developed Alzheimer’s disease in the late 1960s, Mr. Evans made large donations to Alzheimer’s research and eventually became national director of the Alzheimer’s Association. In 1975, his former wife, Frances, and their two daughters, Elizabeth and Melissa, died in a fire caused by errant ashes from their fireplace. Mr. Evans created the Crusade for Fire Detection, aimed at educating the public on the need for fire detectors and lobbying for laws to make them mandatory. Charles sent out hundreds of fire detectors as gifts and chain letters. Countless lives have been saved through the mandatory laws of fire alarms. Charles had a true zeal for life. From WWII veteran to successful entrepreneur, feature film producer, to a dedicated philanthropist. Charles was a dynamic, charismatic, old school Gentleman. He was one of a kind and adored by all worldwide.

Firmly committed to curing prostate cancer, the Prostate Cancer Foundation is the leading philanthropic organization funding and accelerating research globally. Since 1993, its unique strategies for identifying and investing in the most promising research programs have generated life-saving results. The organization channels resources to the world’s top scientific minds—cutting red tape and encouraging collaboration to speed breakthroughs. As a champion for increased government and private support, PCF has helped build a global research enterprise of nearly $10 billion. Through the generous contributions of our donors, it has funded more than 2,000 programs at more than 200 research centers in 18 countries. For more than 16 million men and their families fighting prostate cancer globally, PCF is a primary source for new standard-of-care and research information. It connects patients, loved ones, care providers and scientists to critical updates, the latest developments, best practices and news from the treatment pipeline. For further information on the PCF, please visit http://www.pcf.org/

This July 4th, America’s national Independence Day celebration kicks off our country’s 238th birthday with an all-star salute led by our country’s favorite host, two-time Emmy Award- personality Tom Bergeron. Hot off another winning season as host of the hit series Dancing with the Stars, Bergeron will lead an all-star cast in a patriotic evening of unrivaled musical performances—topped off by the greatest display of fireworks anywhere in the nation.

Broadcast live on PBS from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, the event will feature performances by: Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Frankie Valli; Grammy Award-winning music legend Patti LaBelle; multi-platinum recording artist and actress Jordin Sparks; five-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Michael McDonald; country music superstar Sara Evans; singer-songwriter Kendall Schmidt from BIG TIME RUSH and HEFFRON DRIVE; and five-time Tony Award nominee and Broadway star Kelli O’Hara; with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of our national anthem, five-time Academy Award-winning composer John Williams will conduct a special new arrangement for orchestra and chorus of the “Star Spangled Banner” with the National Symphony Orchestra, The Joint Armed Forces Chorus, the Choral Arts Society of Washington and the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets.

The 34th annual broadcast of A CAPITOL FOURTH airs on PBS Friday, July 4, 2014 from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. ET before a concert audience of hundreds of thousands, millions more at home, as well as to our troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network. The program can also be heard live in stereo over NPR member stations nationwide. With twenty cameras positioned around the city, including the U.S. Capitol, the White House and the Washington Monument, viewers are front and center for the greatest display of fireworks anywhere in the nation during this top-rated extravaganza. Capping off the show will be a rousing rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” complete with live cannon fire provided by the United States Army Presidential Salute Battery, an audience favorite and A CAPITOL FOURTH tradition.

To talk about this year’s A Capitol Fourth, North American Network is offering five- to seven-minute telephone interviews with singer-songwriter Kendall Schmidt. Interviews are being scheduled for Thursday, July 3, from 11:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. Eastern Time. To book an interview window, please call.

BIOGRAPHY

Kendall Schmidt:

What began in 2008 as a passion project in a bedroom studio in Burbank, California has now become a whirlwind endeavor, with energetic and dedicated fans across the globe. Kendall Schmidt (23) is founder of the passionately-adored electro-pop band, Heffron Drive. Kendall’s passion for music began when he was just a child. As a youngster, Kendall would often recite whole songs after hearing them just once on the radio. Ever the singer, Kendall soon wanted to broaden his musical horizons. Initially, he tried playing the violin and drums, but neither instrument seemed to fit. One day, however, he borrowed his brother’s guitar and from that point forward, he was hooked. Kendall taught himself how to play guitar and eventually released a number of covers on YouTube, which garnered him his first fans. The initial encounter between Kendall and Dustin, a future Heffron Drive member, occurred at a screening for Kendall’s brother’s movie in Los Angeles, California. The two became instant friends; learning that each was a musician, had been born in the same hospital in Wichita, Kansas, and currently lived on the same street in Burbank, California. That street? You guessed it, was Heffron Drive. With money he earned from an acting gig, Kendall purchased some recording gear and the two friends embarked on a musical journey, knowing only to trust their ears and passion for music. When the question of what to name the newly formed band arose, Heffron
Drive was the perfect fit. The band started uploading songs, to the then-popular Myspace, and soon thereafter began receiving an overwhelming amount of interest. The Internet was buzzing about the new band’s unique music and it wasn’t uncommon to find the play counter hovering around 20,000 plays on any given day. Around mid-2009, however, and soon after the release of Heffron Drive music, Kendall was asked to become the lead singer of the band, Big Time Rush. He accepted, and BTR rapidly became a global phenomenon, with tens of millions of fans across the globe, millions of records and tickets sold, and performances across three continents. Not wanting Heffron Drive to fall apart during his BTR success, Kendall helped secure Dustin a position as a tour guitarist for the group. Although extremely busy, the two still found time to create music for Heffron Drive. With constant forward momentum, Heffron Drive is now preparing a full-scale launch into the world of irresistible electro-pop music. Infusing infectious melodies, unforgettable hooks, and beamingly beautiful lyrics, Heffron Drive promises to bring that lovable, relatable, missing-piece-of-the-puzzle to today’s music scene.
