On April 23rd the U.S. Army Reserve will celebrate its 116th Birthday. This month, the Army Reserve is honoring the men and women who embrace their roles as “Citizen Soldiers” by continuing a proud and distinguished legacy of service within the total Army and across the Nation as a community-based force.

The skills these Soldiers bring both in and out of uniform add substantial value and depth to the force. They are doctors, lawyers, academics, scientists, engineers, cyber specialists, police officers, first responders, transportation specialists, administrators, and more – and they’re at the top of their fields. Whether performing combat missions and contingency operations, or saving lives and protecting property in cities, towns, and communities, the Army Reserve has, and will, continue to offer versatile, available, and effective capabilities for the American people.

The Army Reserve supplements the Army’s operational and strategic capabilities at large, providing units with unique and in-demand skills across military intelligence, civil affairs, engineering, cyber, medical, legal, and aviation fields and beyond.  Serving at least one weekend a month and two weeks a year, usually within 90 minutes of home, Army Reserve Soldiers provide a critical link to both the public and private sectors.

The strength of the Army Reserve lies within Soldiers’ diverse backgrounds, cultures, and history. Each Soldier contributes to an adaptive and culturally astute Army Reserve that further enhances their capabilities around the world. Since 2001, Army Reserve Soldiers have been mobilized and routinely deployed in dozens of countries around the world and have made a positive impact in communities right here at home. From natural disasters to national emergencies, the Army Reserve has never failed to answer the Nation’s call.

Frederick who lives for part of the year in The Netherlands and also has a UK base in Cheshire – has been involved in peace activism since the early 1980’s, and is the Founder and President of Children of the World 2000, a not for profit organisation supported by the International Peace Bureau and UNESCO.

He is patron of several NGOs including the Earth Focus Foundation in Switzerland, the Lady Geertruide School Project in Haiti and the World Peace Gardens Network.

After leaving university the prince joined the family firm, an import-export business, and was also involved in publishing, travel writing and photography. His present work is as a World Peace Emissary and he is a Fellow of the International Institute of Peace Studies & Global Philosophy.

We met with the prince at the UN General Assembly in the Fall of 2002 together with Dame Jane Goodall a UN Messenger for Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall and Roots n’ Shoots initiative.

Harlem Mother’s S.A.V.E (Stop Another Violent Ending), www.harlemmotherssave.org a Harlem based charity led by Ms. Jackie Rowe Adams seeking to end gun violence and bridge the gap between cop and community, is hosting their annual summer event entitled, “Play Street”.

We anticipate hundreds of children, families and members of law enforcement from the 26th, 32nd and 36th precincts will gather for games, talks and community fun.

The kickoff for this weekly event is this Thursday, July 14th beginning at 1:00pm on 128th Street between St. Nicholas Avenue (7th) & Frederick Douglas Blvd (8th Ave), where Donahue Peebles III will give the opening remarks. Géza von Habsburg-Lothringen studied at the Universities of Fribourg and Bern (Switzerland), Munich and Florence and has a Ph.D. in History of Art and Archeology. He was Chairman of Christie’s in Switzerland and in Europe for 18 years; taught at the New York School of Design; at the Bard Graduate Center for the Decorative Art; at New York University; and lectured for a decade at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He published 15 books on the History of Collecting, Russian Art and Fabergé, and organized five international exhibitions attracting over 2 million visitors.

At present he serves as Visiting Professor at Shijitsu University, Okayama (Japan); Fabergé Guest Curator at the Virginia Museum of Art, where he wrote the catalogue of its collection of Russian Art and organized the exhibition “Fabergé Revealed”; and Curatorial Director of the Fabergé Company. As President of the International Friends of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, he speaks regularly on Habsburg family history, artistic patronage and collecting.

He is President of the International Friends of the Budapest Museum of Applied Art; Advisory Board Member of the Hermitage Foundation; of the Fabergé Museum in St. Petersburg; and Board Member of the Friends of Dresden.
