The Three Amigos’s Lorraine Silvetz, Errol Rappaport and Judy Christy Gilbert’s wish was to have as many of their close friends join them to celebrate their March Birthdays.
They got their wish when many of their friends and family rolled into one of New York’s famous restaurants to celebrate with them!
The 3 Amigos don’t just share March birthdays but are advocates for many foundations including Lorraine’s Global Stress Initiative (GSI) under the auspices of the International Committee Against Mental Illness (ICAMI).
ICAMI is the longest standing mental health foundation in the world. GSI focuses on research and treatment for post-traumatic stress disorders in veterans and domestic violence survivors.
Dear friend and GSI spokesperson, 3 Time Emmy Award Winning Anchor and 2 Time NY Times Best Seller, Rita Cosby has served as GSI’s spokesperson since it was founded in 2010.
The Three Amigos and their friends support and serve as Board members for many foundations including Lou Gehrig ALS NYC, Ronald McDonald House, St Francis Food Pantry and Shelter, Career Bridges, Daisy Jopling Music Mentoring Foundation, Mommy’s Heart Foundation, The Veteran’s Association of New York, National Meningitis Association, Operation Warrior Shield, David Lynch Foundation among others.

Quiet Hero.
Amazing artist and friend, Tatyana Horoshko along with her husband, Sasha Gegera gifted her amazing portraits to the Three Amigos in her signature style! The art works WOWED the CROWD and everyone is lining up to be painted by the extraordinary portraitist. The portraitist has donated her art to many foundations including Southampton Animal Shelter, Career Bridges, The Farzana Foundation, Operation Warrior Shield, Mommy’s Heart, Doodles for Hunger Drive, among others.
Everyone was thrilled to be together again since most have rarely seen each other since the pandemic’s inception in 2020.
The Three Amigos’ birthday wish was to have as many of their beloved friends, old and new, celebrate together since it had been so long!! It seems they got their wish and then some!!

COLUMBIA FALLS, Maine — Sept. 28, 2021 — Wreaths Across America Radio is proud to announce the next episode in its series of roundtable discussions focused on veteran healing through sharing stories of resilience, purpose, and success. This discussion will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 12 PM ET, and can be heard exclusively on Wreaths Across America Radio.

The roundtable will focus on the recalibrated warrior, and how finding purpose can benefit not only in your own journey of resilience but help connect with others working to overcome similar challenges. Guest panelists – listed below – will be interviewed by Wreaths Across America’s Executive Director Karen Worcester and Director of Military and Veteran Outreach, Joe Regan, United States Army Veteran.

Guest Panelists Include:

Travis Mills, Founder and President of the Board for the Travis Mills Foundation. United States Army Staff Sergeant (ret.) Travis Mills of the 82nd Airborne is a recalibrated veteran, a motivational speaker, actor, author, and advocate for veterans and amputees. He is one of only five quadruple amputees from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to survive.

On April 10, 2021, Travis was critically injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) during a routine patrol in Afghanistan and spent 19 months at Walter Reed. After his recovery, Travis attended an adaptive sports camp in Colorado and realized the need for a such a place where a veteran, and their entire family could relax, reconnect, and find strength. Born out of this idea, the Travis Mills Foundation Veterans’ Retreat was founded.

Ginger Gilbert Ravella, Author, Military Wife, and Ambassador for the Gary Sinise Foundation. Ginger Gilbert Ravella is a military wife, Gold Star (widow), mother of five and stepmother of two. Her personal mission is to encourage anyone who seeks reconciliation and peace when life hurts the most and to continue to serve a nation by serving others.

Ginger works tirelessly to support and raise funds to help fallen and disabled veterans and their families. She is an international speaker and author devoted to her God, her family, and her country. She is remarried to another widower and USAF fighter pilot, Colonel (Ret) Jim Ravella, who lost his wife to breast cancer. Ginger currently resides in Nashville, Tenn., with her family.

The goal of the roundtable series is to help reduce barriers for veterans by:

· Supporting generational bonds between service veterans through stories of service and success;

· Destigmatizing issues faced by veterans and asking for help;

· Combating inaccurate perceptions of veterans by discussing the diverse experiences, challenges, and success of service members, veterans, and their families; and

· Connecting veterans with valuable resources.

“I know this is going to be a meaningful discussion,” said Karen Worcester, Executive Director, Wreaths Across America. “As everyone involved has a synergy of mission and a deep understanding of veterans’ needs and the needs of their families. We look forward to this opportunity to share these stories and the importance in addressing veterans’ healing.”

A Fulbright Scholar and historian-turned-master-storyteller is at it again in his 15th book, Tales From Little Egypt, a fictional account of life that spans from the Civil War of the 1860s to the Influenza Pandemic of 1918 and World War I. Once a distinguished professor and Fulbright Scholar, James, who also had one of his history books make a New York Times Notable List, takes a historical approach to examining 13 imaginary lives that touched some of the most significant eras of American history.

Tales of Little Egypt is a fictional account of small-town America and the peculiar, ordinary, eccentric, sturdy, cunning, and contented characters who created it. Set in the years between the Civil War and the great Influenza Plague of 1918, this is a pageant of imaginary people–the narratives of a score of men, women, and children whose lives illustrate the immense changes and challenges of that turbulent era. This was a period of great events and outsized personalities: splendid World’s Fairs attended by millions, radical new inventions, devastating wars and violent revolutions; leaders like Theodore Roosevelt. But underneath were the people whose stories are as fascinating, troubled, compelling and triumphant as anything that has occupied the attention of historians. There was the town doctor, the local sheriff, the jeweler, the self-appointed matron of morality, a young black girl and her mother, a boy who ran off to the circus and many others: lovers, criminals, teachers, ministers, and odd characters. As a community, their lives and ambitions, their failures and tragedies–sometimes at their own making–and their small successes intersected and become a part of each other.
Marion, Illinois is both a real place and the imaginary location for these stories. Set in the center of Little Egypt, Marion is a county seat in the middle of this unique area, a river delta wedged between the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. These two great highways of American immigration and trade sent millions of settlers North and South, East and West and back. The few who stopped off to make it their home created something distinctive. Theirs was a society that reflected the crossroads it occupied and the mix of cultures and sections that it represented. It was both nowhere and everywhere. Therefore, their struggles to make sense of this world exemplify the tale and the memory of modern America in the making.

About The Author: Over the course of his career as a historian, he published 11 history texts, one of which (Perfect Cities) was named a New York Times notable book of the year in 1986. Throughout his career, he has often succumbed to a love of travel made possible by teaching at the University of Paris and Warwick University in England, and with Fulbright Awards, at the University of Sydney, the University of Amsterdam, Erfurt and Tubingen Universities in Germany, and Uppsala University in Sweden, where he was given an honorary Doctoral Degree. Until 2020, he was the Faculty Fulbright Adviser at the University of Maryland. Born in Chicago, Gilbert attended Carleton College and then the University of Wisconsin, earning a doctoral degree in American Intellectual and Cultural History. Many Millennial-aged People with Multiple Sclerosis Put Their Own Health Challenges on the Back Burner, Not Fully Understanding the Implications of Proactively Managing their Condition
It’s no secret that the millennial generation embraces wellness and has helped bring health-mindedness to the forefront of pop culture today. But when it comes to taking care of more serious health challenges, many experts are noticing people in their 20’s or 30’s are approaching healthcare differently and often prioritizing “living their best lives” over thinking about their health.
For younger people with serious health issues, putting off talking to a doctor or not getting on an effective therapy after the diagnosis of a chronic disease can have irreversible implications in the long-term. This is especially true with chronic conditions like multiple sclerosis (MS), the most common debilitating, progressive disease, which affects one million U.S. adults – striking in the “prime of life” when people are starting careers and families, and eventually leading to irreversible physical disability for many people. With the average age of onset at 34, most people newly diagnosed with MS over the next 10 to 15 years will be millennial-aged people (ages ~22-39).
According to the National MS Society many people newly diagnosed with MS react with shock and denial, often leading to them not taking proactive steps to manage their disease or connect with the broader MS community. It is important for millennial-aged people to be proactive in their care and pursue early treatment to slow disability progression as they are at an age and point in their disease when a disease-modifying therapy may offer greater impact.
Channing Barker, a millennial-aged person living with MS, who will shed light on her experience of living with MS and working with her doctor to take control of her health. Anne Gilbert, Director of Programs at Can Do MS, a national MS advocacy group known for their work with younger people living with MS, will also share her perspectives on the need to better connect with and support this younger generation of people living with MS.
