Anny Peng is a native local New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn. She graduated with a bachelors in business from Baruch College as well as received her MBA from Fordham University. She is the director of the organization and is active in the local community alongside her mom Julia Liu. You can catch Anny at local community events across the NY Metro Area as well as at casinos across Atlantic City, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and most recently Upstate NY. In her most recent event she participated at the COJEP and FOWPAL UN Gala.

It’s 1984 and outside a small-town nightclub, a group of 8th graders gather, grappling with a spate of recent suicides, UFO sightings, their absentee parents, and each other. 18 TO PARTY spans a single evening in the lives of these kids, but manages to transport us fully to a time when waiting for something to happen felt just as significant as the thing itself. Gorgeously atmospheric, with a pulsating sense of anticipation that steadily builds, the film pulls us into the fears, wounds, and desires of each character, ultimately revealing that hope may arrive from the last place we expect. The meticulously authentic production design, killer soundtrack, and universally excellent performances recall the spirit of classic 80s teen movies like Stand By Me and The Breakfast Club.

Roda is a local resident of Woodstock area and the film is set in Upstate New York.

Summer is finally here. From State Fairs to Labor Day, Americans are spending more time in the sun at cookouts and trips to the beach. Hours spent outside under the sun sounds great; but too much exposure to the sun can lead to painful sunburn and worst yet could lead to skin cancer.

Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States and men are impacted the most. Basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer, disproportionately affects men,[1] and this year an estimated 60,000 American men will be diagnosed with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.[2] That said, men are still less likely than women to apply sunscreen regularly[3] and more than one-third of men are hesitant to share health concerns with their family.[4] As the days get warmer and families are spending more time outdoors during the summer, it’s important that conversations with men and their families include sharing “sun sense” about the dangers of the sun, healthy skin habits and tips for prevention to future generations.

On Friday, July 12, Dr. Jennifer Popovsky, a leading dermatologist at Dermatologic Surgery Center of Northeast Ohio, will be available to discuss the importance of sharing good “sun sense” and understanding treatment options for those who are living with skin cancer.

The Educational Foundation was founded in 1978 to promote educational activities on behalf of NATPE. Through seminars, grants, workshops, meetings, instructional video and conferences, the Foundation has reached out to NATPE members, the academic community and students to help prepare them for a future in television.

In 1980, the Foundation began placing BEA faculty members into summer internships at industry organizations. In 1984, the program was expanded to include faculty at all two- and four-year colleges and universities. Over the years, the Faculty Development Grant has placed over 125 instructors at organizations around the country.

As part of the Faculty Development Grant, recipients were also invited to attend the annual Conference and Exhibition free of charge. This program was later expanded to include additional faculty members, and special faculty-only sessions were added to the Conference activities. This evolved into the Faculty Fellowship Program, which has made the NATPE Conference accessible to hundreds of instructors worldwide.

Reaching hundreds more instructors, and thousands of students, are the Living Curriculum series of videotapes (and now DVDs) distributed to colleges and universities. Featuring key sessions from each year’s Conference, the Living Curriculum series has been distributed since the 1990s.

Starting in 1986 at American University, the Foundation began programming educational seminars and workshops for instructors and industry professionals. These sessions have taken different forms over the years. They’ve occurred as live seminars, ‘tele-workshops’ and video workshops in an effort to reach as wide an audience as possible.

In the mid-1980s, the Foundation also began expanding its direct outreach to students – first through an association with the National College Television Society, and later through a video PSA contest that eventually became the Student Video and Film Production Award. To date, over $100,000 has been awarded to student producers and schools creating quality video productions.

By the late 1990s, the Foundation implemented a series of Student Career Workshops aimed at helping students prepare for jobs in the industry. Foundation Career Expos in Sydney, Australia, in 1998 and 1999, and a similar session at the Sorbonne in Paris in 2000, were the prototypes for the Student Career Workshops which have taken place across the U.S. since 2001. Workshops for 100-200 students have been held in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, New Orleans, San Francisco, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C.

Cheryl Wills, Emmy Award winning anchor for Spectrum News NY1 Live at Ten and host of the public affairs talk show In Focus with Cheryl Wills, moderated a conversation on leadership with honoree Eleanor Holmes Norton following the presentation of the awards.
