The horrific news of what happened to our fellow New Yorkers in Buffalo has left all of us at the Mayor’s Office distraught with pain and sadness. That someone could be driven by hatred to carry out that amount of violence to innocent people, simply because of the color of their skin, feels unconscionable, and is an attack on everything we believe not only as New Yorkers, but as Americans.

Tomorrow evening we are going to turn our pain into purpose and the Mayor will host an interfaith vigil at Bethel Gospel Assembly in Harlem. Together, joined by faith leaders of different denominations, community leaders, and loved ones, we will pray for the victims of yesterday’s attack, and will show our resolve in the face of racism and hatred.
