On Thursday, November 21st at 11am, the NYC Mayor’s Office of Climate & Environmental Justice in collaboration with NYC Parks and other stakeholders, will hold a press event in Mott Haven in the Bronx to kickoff of the planning phase of the city’s first Urban Forest Plan, as required by Local Law 148 of 2023. The Urban Forest Plan advances a key goal in PlaNYC, Mayor Adams’s long-term strategic climate plan, to achieve a 30 percent tree canopy cover. 

We would love to have you join us! The event will be held at the Gil Scott-Heron Amphitheater in St. Mary’s Park in Mott Haven. 

Your collaboration will be especially valuable as we work to develop and implement The Urban Forest Plan. This critical document will outline strategies to equitably expand the city’s tree canopy to ease extreme heat and advance environmental justice; objectives that are incredibly important to city government and New Yorkers alike. 

As we noted in previous communications, our coalition was instrumental in the passage of Local Law 148 of 2023 which mandated this Plan – that was a massive win! We would love to continue to sustain our presence and momentum as champions of the urban forest, so please consider joining us at this event.

Flip2BFit fitness board game creator, Heather Parisi kicks off fundraising campaign for Fitness for Africa

Flip2BFit creator, Heather Parisi, armed with her one-of-a-kind fitness boardgame is launching a crowdfunding campaign (donations can be made to:  http://igg.me/at/FitnessForAfrica-PearlofHope) to bring permanent schools and facilities to children grades K1 through K3 in Uganda, Africa while spreading education about fitness and nutrition. Profits from every sale of Flip2BFit fitness board game as well as donations made through an online campaign will go towards helping Fitness for Africa—a New York based non-profit that believes in battling obesity in the states and malnutrition in Africa—bring health, nutrition, education and a higher quality of life to the people of Uganda and their children.

After overcoming serious injury and attributing her recovery to physical activity and healthy lifestyle, Founder, Heather Parisi knew she had to share the joy of health and fitness with others.  Determined to teach people everywhere that an active and healthy lifestyle is possible no matter age, income or geographic location, Parisi set out to educate people about what health options they have and what the decisions are to make…Flip2BFit was born.  With a deep belief that today’s obesity epidemic is linked with malnutrition around the globe, Flip2BFit along with Fitness For Africa has set their scopes on bridging and targeting these problems through fun, creative and easy solutions that anyone can enjoy and participate in.

Getting its start in a part of the world that desperately needs it, Flip2BFit is already a huge hit among Ugandan school children. Flip2BFit has delivered a fun and exciting way to encourage healthy lifestyles at many of the schools there.  In fact, since introducing the game, Ugandan school children have demonstrated improved grades, a growth in self-esteem, better sleep, stronger muscles, greater focus and more.  Even the Ugandan adults that have participated report a positive impact having experienced less aches and pains and better sleep. Now Parisi, through her Not for Profit Fitness for Africa is seeking funding to help keep her school up and running and to move out of the temporary bamboo structure into permanent structures so that the school is recognized by the Ugandan Ministry of Education.
