Target Groups Served: Native Americans, 1st Nations, Indigenous People’s, African descent (from Transatlantic slave trade), Latin America, Africa, Aboriginal from Oceania region, Asia, Nomads, Middle East/ Arab territories
Goals: Youth artistic development globally, women’s empowerment, create solutions for economic sustainability through the arts, change the stigmatism associated with Indigenous tribes/African, and Middle Eastern cultures. This has been done through the use of media, film, marketing, and innovative events. The events are highlighted to educate, empower, bring various social, class and religious beliefs together in unity with an understanding of “world peace,” and tolerance.
Seeing the need for global events, there is also a need for training, and education facilities world- wide. Therefore, building after school arts programs in inner cities (USA), and globally will create solutions for the United Nations resolution “Leave No One Behind 2030.” Due to COVID-19 the organization is structuring e-learning platforms.

Good News attends this wonderful event. The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS) is an establishment of reviewers specializing in the reviewing of hotels, resorts, spas, airlines, cruise lines, automobiles, products, restaurants and chefs. It is most notably known for its reviews on the hotels, resorts, and travel industries. The Academy started of as a restaurant rating bureau, founded in 1949. The current establishment is an offspring of this early group of reviewers and was officially founded in 1989. The Academy is most known for its International Star Diamond Award.

Organization

The Academy is based in New York City and is directed by Joseph Cinque. The members of the Board are experienced in both travel and the stated industries. The Academy also includes a large board of honorary trustees that serve as regional directors, general managers, restaurateurs, chefs, and other functions.

The International Star Diamond Award

The most known aspect of the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences is the International Star Diamond Award. The award is the most prestigious award of true excellence in hospitality, gastronomy, attitude, quality, cleanliness, and above all service. The Academy receives a large number of possible recipients for the award from respectable sources around the world. The selection is then refined by the Board of Trustees. The final evaluation is a visit by an anonymous inspector to review the destination and its services.

The award itself has multiple formats:

– For hotels and resorts, a set of gold-plated plaques including the logo and engraved signatures of the three board members;

– For restaurants, a set of plaques, both gold and silver-plated, with the logo and signatures;

– For chefs, a plaque with recognition engravings and a medal;

– A framed letter from the Academy recognizing the destination’s winning of the award;

– Lapel pins and cuff links in a jewelry box.

An additional format of a plate has been used for chefs.

Campus Coach Lines President and Founder Bert Askwith, Honored by ABA Board of Directors
The American Bus Association Board of Directors honored longtime motorcoach owner/operator and
industry legend Bert Askwith at its spring board meeting May 2 in suburban Washington, D.C. The
presentation was made by ABA Chairman Tom JeBran to salute Askwith for nearly 85 years of
continuous service to the motorcoach industry.

In March, Bert turned 102, celebrating his birthday by going to work in Manhattan where he is President of Campus Coach Lines. Bert founded Campus Coach Lines in 1928 while he was a student at the University of Michigan, taking classmates from Ann Arbor to the east coast at a fraction of the cost of rail travel. The company was so successful that he put himself through college with the money he earned. In 1931, while the Great Depression weakened the economy; Bert moved the business to New York City where it continues operations today, 83 years later.

During his long and distinguished career, Bert has served in a variety of high-profile national and
regional industry leadership positions, including a nearly 20-year tenure on ABA’s Board of Directors.
In 2010 the Board made him an honorary lifetime member. Bert also served as the first Chairman of
the ABA Foundation Board of Governors and continues his service to the ABA Foundation as
Chairman Emeritus. Bert also served for six years as the President of the New York State Bus
Association.

Bert is also known for his generous charitable contributions. Among his favorite charities are the
United Way and his beloved University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

In typical fashion, Bert is always looking ahead, and as he accepted the award, he told his colleagues,
“Thank you for this honor, I am looking forward to working with you for many more years.” ABA Board Chairman Tom JeBran said of his longtime friendship and associate.

Alice Herz-Sommer (1903 – 2014)

Yesterday morning, Sunday, February 23, Alice Herz-Sommer died in London at the age of 110. We mourn the passing of our beloved Honorary Artistic Director. She was an extraordinary human being, a true mensch!

For two years, Alice Herz-Sommer was imprisoned in the ghetto and concentration camp Theresienstadt. She had to endure the terror of the Nazi Regime and personally lived through the horror of the Holocaust. But despite all these dreadful experiences she remained a steadfast optimist to the very end. Her love for her fellow human beings and for life in general was a source of inspiration for everyone who met her. Yet, she was not out of touch with reality. She always pointed out: “I know there is bad in the world, but I look for the good.” Her constant search for the good sparked the good in everyone else around her. She was a bright light and a shining example of humanity.

Without Alice Herz-Sommer, the world will be poorer.

We at Elysium – between two continents and The Lahr von Leitis Academy & Archive feel very glad and privileged to have known her. For many years, Alice Herz-Sommer was a wonderful Honorary Artistic Director. She always was interested in what we were doing and curious to know how our educational programs were received, especially by the younger generation.

In our hearts and minds Alice Herz-Sommer will continue to live!
