We can’t believe it’s almost here! The 6th annual Red Nose Day Special returns to NBC next Thursday, May 21 at 8/7c.

It all starts off at 8 p.m. ET/PT with a special episode of Celebrity Escape Room. You won’t want to miss the hilarious adventures our good friends Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and Adam Scott get into to raise money for Red Nose Day.

And then at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the biggest names in entertainment come together (virtually) for The Red Nose Day Special. It’s going to be an inspiring evening of comedy, music, and storytelling.

We can’t wait for one-of-a-kind musical performances by Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, OneRepublic, Ellie Goulding, Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers, Sam Smith, James Taylor, Meghan Trainor and Adrienne Warren.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be Red Nose Day without some much-needed laughter – courtesy of our favorite comedians Jim Gaffigan, Tony Hale, Ray Romano and Lilly Singh. We’ll also be joined by stars including Bryan Cranston, Mario Lopez, Milo Ventimiglia and Noah Jupe.

LongHouse Reserve exemplifies living with art in all forms. Founded by Jack Lenor Larsen, its collections, gardens, sculpture and programs reflect world cultures and inspire a creative life.

LongHouse Reserve was founded by Jack Lenor Larsen, internationally known textile designer, author, and collector. His home, LongHouse, was built as a case study to exemplify a creative approach to contemporary life. He believes visitors experiencing art in living spaces have a unique learning experience–more meaningful than the best media. LongHouse contains 13,000 square feet, and 18 spaces on four levels. The gardens present the designed landscape as an art form and offer a diversity of sites for the sculpture installations.

LongHouse encompasses nearly 16 acres of East Hampton Township’s great Northwest Woods. Since he acquired the property in 1975, Jack Larsen has laid out an entrance drive lined with majestic cryptomerias, established lawns and ornamental borders, and defined major spaces as settings for plant collections and sculpture.

The long, low berms that divide the property recall the boundaries of farm fields that occupied the site until it was abandoned for agricultural use in the 19th century. Much of the deciduous canopy of second growth native trees has been preserved.

Finding inspiration in the 7th century Shinto shrine at Ise, Japan, Larsen decided to build the house on the property in 1986. LongHouse was designed by architect Charles Forberg and built by Joe Tufariello.

As part of our internationally recognized Art in the Gardens program, Jack Lenor Larsen and the LHR Arts Committee have assembled a collection of more than 60 contemporary sculptures in the LongHouse gardens. Throughout the 16 acre site, permanent works are on display along with those on seasonal loan from artists, collectors, and dealers. Whether you return to see an old favorite or walk the grounds in search of a new installation, LongHouse entices with noteworthy works and magnificent vistas.

Says Benjamin Genocchio, Arts and Entertainment critic for the New York Times, “LongHouse is not as big as some sculpture parks outside New York City, nor does it have artworks by the A-list of outdoor sculptors, especially heavy metal masters like Richard Serra or Mark di Suvero. But what it does have is individuality and a finely wrought sense of style. It also offers the element of surprise; I love visiting this place because I never know what I am going to find.”

ART FOCUS

LongHouse embraces a comprehensive view of art. Our goal is to expand the imagination and appeal to visitors of all ages and every level of appreciation. Ethnographic works and handcrafts share the spotlight with the best of modern art. One can view many of the 60 works in our gardens, along with those of visiting artists. Glass installations by Chihuly, ceramics by Takaezu, and bronzes by de Kooning, Nivola, and Hunt, as well as works by Ossorio, Bury, Ono, Soga, Kraitz, LeWitt, Rosenthal, and Opocensky, while Buckminster Fuller’s Fly’s Eye Dome keeps watch over all.

GARDEN FOCUS

The gardens at LongHouse serve as a living case study of the interaction between plants and people in the 21st century. We not only create landscapes as an art form, we simultaneously demonstrate planting potentials in this climate – with a wide variety of natural and cultivated species. Sharing these extensive plant collections, and experiencing them in relation to living spaces, over time, and with seasonal changes, is the chief pleasure for Mr. Larsen and the LHR staff. It is also the soundest learning experience.

Fred Klein, of the Gotham City Networking, Inc. introduces Good News to Jack at the Friars Club in New York City. 

Jack has leveraged his networking and client development skills to build a substantial, highly diversified career. Jack currently manages the Eagle Rock Diversified Fund, a successful fund-of-hedge funds, that he launched in 2001. Previously Jack started and/or headed companies in: multi-media consumer and business to business publishing (Harpers, Country Music Magazine and Wireless For the Corporate User); venture capital and industrial equipment manufacturing sectors. He partnered to develop commercial real estate properties in Florida. Early in his career Jack worked in the UK for a British technology company as head of one of their divisions and consulted with the heads of Fortune 500 type organizations while with McKinsey & Company, the leading international management consulting firm.

Jack has developed profitable business operations in various parts of the world including Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Personal Highlights

Jack’s giving back started while a graduate student at MIT when he served as a Big Brother. Over the years Jack has served and continues to serve on the boards of various non-profit organizations including Medical Missions for Children, the Garden State Woman Education Foundation and the Park Avenue Club that is owned by 11 charities.

For over 20 years Jack has taught at the MBA level at Rutgers, Montclair State and Fairleigh Dickinson Universities.

Jack has a BSME degree from Yale University and a MS degree in Industrial Management from MIT. Jack is the co-founder of the Northern New Jersey MIT Sloan Business School Networking Group and is extending this networking concept globally.

Jack and his wife Judy live on Walnut Farm which they developed into one of New Jersey’s top thoroughbred race horse breeding and training programs. Their son Jonathan graduated from Georgetown University and is pursuing a career in corporate turn-around management.

Jack served in the U.S. Army.

Hot off another winning season as host of the hit series Dancing with the Stars, Bergeron will lead an all-star cast in a patriotic evening of unrivaled musical performances—topped off by the greatest display of fireworks anywhere in the nation.

Broadcast live on PBS from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, the event will feature performances by: Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Frankie Valli; Grammy Award-winning music legend Patti LaBelle; multi-platinum recording artist and actress Jordin Sparks; five-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Michael McDonald; country music superstar Sara Evans; singer-songwriter Kendall Schmidt from BIG TIME RUSH and HEFFRON DRIVE; and five-time Tony Award nominee and Broadway star Kelli O’Hara; with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of our national anthem, five-time Academy Award-winning composer John Williams will conduct a special new arrangement for orchestra and chorus of the “Star Spangled Banner” with the National Symphony Orchestra, The Joint Armed Forces Chorus, the Choral Arts Society of Washington and the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets.

The 34th annual broadcast of A CAPITOL FOURTH airs on PBS Friday, July 4, 2014 from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. ET before a concert audience of hundreds of thousands, millions more at home, as well as to our troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network. The program can also be heard live in stereo over NPR member stations nationwide. With twenty cameras positioned around the city, including the U.S. Capitol, the White House and the Washington Monument, viewers are front and center for the greatest display of fireworks anywhere in the nation during this top-rated extravaganza. Capping off the show will be a rousing rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” complete with live cannon fire provided by the United States Army Presidential Salute Battery, an audience favorite and A CAPITOL FOURTH tradition.

Kendall Schmidt:

What began in 2008 as a passion project in a bedroom studio in Burbank, California has now become a whirlwind endeavor, with energetic and dedicated fans across the globe. Kendall Schmidt (23) is founder of the passionately-adored electro-pop band, Heffron Drive. Kendall’s passion for music began when he was just a child. As a youngster, Kendall would often recite whole songs after hearing them just once on the radio. Ever the singer, Kendall soon wanted to broaden his musical horizons. Initially, he tried playing the violin and drums, but neither instrument seemed to fit. One day, however, he borrowed his brother’s guitar and from that point forward, he was hooked. Kendall taught himself how to play guitar and eventually released a number of covers on YouTube, which garnered him his first fans. The initial encounter between Kendall and Dustin, a future Heffron Drive member, occurred at a screening for Kendall’s brother’s movie in Los Angeles, California. The two became instant friends; learning that each was a musician, had been born in the same hospital in Wichita, Kansas, and currently lived on the same street in Burbank, California. That street? You guessed it, was Heffron Drive. With money he earned from an acting gig, Kendall purchased some recording gear and the two friends embarked on a musical journey, knowing only to trust their ears and passion for music. When the question of what to name the newly formed band arose, Heffron
Drive was the perfect fit. The band started uploading songs, to the then-popular Myspace, and soon thereafter began receiving an overwhelming amount of interest. The Internet was buzzing about the new band’s unique music and it wasn’t uncommon to find the play counter hovering around 20,000 plays on any given day. Around mid-2009, however, and soon after the release of Heffron Drive music, Kendall was asked to become the lead singer of the band, Big Time Rush. He accepted, and BTR rapidly became a global phenomenon, with tens of millions of fans across the globe, millions of records and tickets sold, and performances across three continents. Not wanting Heffron Drive to fall apart during his BTR success, Kendall helped secure Dustin a position as a tour guitarist for the group. Although extremely busy, the two still found time to create music for Heffron Drive. With constant forward momentum, Heffron Drive is now preparing a full-scale launch into the world of irresistible electro-pop music. Infusing infectious melodies, unforgettable hooks, and beamingly beautiful lyrics, Heffron Drive promises to bring that lovable, relatable, missing-piece-of-the-puzzle to today’s music scene.

This year, nearly three million young people will graduate from high schools across the United States. Many will continue their education, while others will begin pursuing careers. In both cases, they will be required to make many of their own decisions which will have financial implications and directly impact on their ability to become independent.

Junior Achievement’s and The Allstate Foundation’s annual Teens and Personal Finance Survey provides a snapshot of teens’ behaviors and attitudes around money management. It examines how teens view the importance of effective spending, saving and budgeting—and their opinions around how well they are executing those tasks. The key findings illustrate a teen population that is more optimistic now than in past years about its financial future, yet faces challenges related to effectively managing its money.

Jack Kosakowski, president and CEO of Junior Achievement, will discuss key findings of the survey along with tips for parents on how to make their teenagers smarter about personal finance.
