TODAY 4pm: Pride Flag Rally at the Stonewall National Monument

In the wake of the Trump administration’s anti-queer decision to remove the Pride flag from Stonewall National Monument earlier this week, I’m joining other elected officials and activists to re-raise the flag and protest this erasure of LGBTQ+ Americans and our history.

I invite you to join us today, Thursday, February 12 at 4pm at the Stonewall National Monument (38-64 Christopher St.) and rally in support of protecting our community from these ongoing extremist attacks.

Manhattan is the home of Pride and we will not be silenced.

Meet Deputy Manhattan Borough President Miesha Smith

We’re thrilled to welcome Miesha Smith as Deputy Manhattan Borough President, who brings a deep commitment to public service, higher education, small business vitality, and equity for working families. A Harlem resident and the daughter of immigrants from Guyana, DBP Smith was most recently Assistant Dean for Student Life at Hunter College, where she launched Hunter’s food pantry and fresh food program, expanded emergency support services, and advanced initiatives that improved student retention and graduation. In her new role, DBP Smith will focus on supporting public education, strengthening small businesses, and advancing arts and culture.

The OMNY Call Center is now available 24/7, able to answer questions about trips and transactions and assist riders with any inquiries or issues. While speaking with an OMNY Customer Service representative, riders can access their OMNY account, hear their trips and charges, manage their travel cards, and more.

LOVE FORCE world premiere in NYC was sublime

Last week’s premier of Love Force was absolute pleasure to present. Was a gift to be in the same room with family, friends and new faces and participate in ritual of making music. Thank you to all who came and my deepest gratitude to the Love Force team: Katie, Amanda, Jeanette, Kenien, Mika, Max, Tabitha, Alison, David, Almog, Julia and Jasim.

The show will be traveling around the country 2026-27 and hope you’ll catch it near you. Stay tuned as we announce more tour dates.

Love Force was in development at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT (2023-24). Originally commissioned and developed with the support of Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater (2022-23). Previous support includes New York State Council on the Arts, and a MAP Fund award.

Music Changes the World

My name is Jim Papoulis, and I have spent the last 15 years of my life’s work writing choral music exploring the issues facing the thoughts and lives for millions of children around the world. Through my work, I have seen the very real impact that music can have on lives every day.

I am writing to invite you and your choir to join Music Changes the World, a new initiative of the Foundation for Small Voices (FSV), and become involved in the power of many voices joining together to make a difference.

FSV is a not-for-profit organization committed to the idea that music can empower, change, and influence lives, especially for young people. For over 15 years, we have been responding to the call from voices all over the world, and today’s requests for help from choirs and programs in jeopardy are more numerous and urgent than ever.

We are inviting you and your choir, along with thousands of choirs worldwide, to join the beginning of our initiative, with each choir pledging just $100.

Our goal is to raise a minimum of $500,000, with 100% of these funds going directly toward providing music for youth on all continents. It is only through the power of each voice in our global choir community that we can make a change. Choirs who donate more than $100 will have an opportunity to contribute to a general fund that will help those choirs who would like to participate but are unable to make a financial contribution. Your choir members will have an opportunity to touch lives around the world, sharing the joy they feel in making music together, and to become part of a global network of choirs that care about and support both choral music and each other.
