Welcome to Junior’s!
Hail a taxicab anywhere in New York City and tell the driver, “Take me to the best cheesecake in New York.” Odds are you will end up at the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues in Brooklyn, at Juniors. Founded by Harry Rosen in 1950, Junior’s landmark restaurant is known as the home of New York’s best cheesecake. For decades, Brooklynites (and other New Yorkers) have come to eat, laugh, and kibbtiz (argue) over cheesecake. In the 1950’s, an entire generation came of age at Junior’s. Our cheesecake was as important as the Brooklyn Dodgers…the Fox Theater…Coney Island…Brighton Beach. Today loyal customers still come –from all over and all walks of life. Famous mayors. Presidents. Hall of Fame athletes. Authors, singers, movie stars. In fact, it’s as true today as it was 60 years ago when we started, “You haven’t really lived until you’ve had cheesecake at Junior’s.”

Landmark Locations
Since the 1950’s, Junior’s has been famous for great food, great fun, great service, and, of course, the best cheesecake. Our original location in Brooklyn on Flatbush Avenue is still thriving. Or you can visit us in some of our more recent landmark additions—in New York’s famous Grand Central Terminal or in the heart of the theater district on Broadway in Times Square. You can even try your luck at our first restaurant outside of New York—at the Fox Tower Hotel at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. With a full menu ranging from steaks to seafood and sandwiches to salads and cheesecake, we know you’ll have a fabulous dining experience at any of our establishments and, of course, don’t forget to order dessert!

The Les Paul Foundation, whose mission is to honor and share the life, spirit and legacy of Les Paul by supporting music education, engineering and innovation as well as medical research, announced that it has awarded grants to the Junior Jazz Foundation, Litchfield Performing Arts and Six Strings Heroes at Jefferson Barracks, three different organizations but with a shared vision of the legacy of Les Paul. Throughout his life, Les Paul was an innovator who changed the face of the music industry with the inventions of multi-track recording and the solid body electric guitar. He supported music education, engineering, innovation as well as medical research.

The Junior Jazz Foundation of Hilton Head, South Carolina will receive funding for its annual Junior Jazz Camp. With funding from the Les Paul Foundation, a permanent jazz guitar program will be added to the camp. Students will learn about Les Paul and honor him by performing his music. The camp will also hold annual Les Paul evenings at The Jazz Corner.

The Junior Jazz Foundation (JJF) is the philanthropic outreach effort of the Jazz Corner and under the umbrella of the prestigious Community Foundation of the Low Country, a quality organization with tremendous experience in managing the philanthropic work of individuals, families and businesses. The larger mission of the Junior Jazz Foundation (JJF) is to broaden and proliferate the awareness of the original American art form of jazz within our schools. For more information go to www.thejuniorjazzfoundation.org

Six String Heroes at Jefferson Barracks in O’Fallon, Missouri is also the recipient of a Les Paul Foundation grant and will receive funding to provide free guitar lessons and guitars to injured U.S. military veterans. Survey Reveals a Gender Divide in the Ways that Boys and Girls Manage their Money and Plan for College; Experts Offer Tips on How to Make Your Teen Financially Savvy

This year, nearly three million young people will graduate from high schools across the United States. Many will continue their education, while others will begin pursuing careers. In both cases, they will be required to make many of their own decisions which will have financial implications and directly impact on their ability to become independent.

Junior Achievement’s and The Allstate Foundation’s annual Teens and Personal Finance Survey provides a snapshot of teens’ behaviors and attitudes around money management. It examines how teens view the importance of effective spending, saving and budgeting—and their opinions around how well they are executing those tasks. The key findings illustrate a teen population that is more optimistic now than in past years about its financial future, yet faces challenges related to effectively managing its money.

Jack Kosakowski, president and CEO of Junior Achievement, will discuss key findings of the survey along with tips for parents on how to make their teenagers smarter about personal finance.

About the Talent:
Jack Kosakowski, president and CEO of Junior Achievement. Starting as a student in the Junior Achievement program in Toledo, Ohio, he attended the University of Toledo on a Junior Achievement scholarship and has since served in a variety of leadership roles with increasing levels of responsibility over the past 40 years.

New York City Mission Society’s Junior Society hosted holiday cocktails to benefit their annual holiday toy drive at Pilotage Fun & Hobby, Tuesday, December 3, 2013.

Comprised of young professionals in the New York City Area, the Junior Society supports the mission, vision and values of New York City Mission Society through hands-on outreach, innovative networking and unique fundraising opportunities. As the next generation of philanthropists, including Melissa Berkelhammer, Brooke Laing, Antonella Lemos, Cole Rumbough, and Liz Shafiroff, they support the New York City Mission Society’s goal to improve the lives of children, youth, and families in the city’s most underserved communities.Deeply devoted to the cause, Jean Shafiroff will serve as the honoree for their upcoming benefit gala on Wednesday, March 12, 2013.

With the toy drive event, this year sponsored in part by MarieBelle New York, Baked by Melissa, Insomnia Cookies, Bonito Mezcal, and Früzen Ice, guests had the opportunity to support the toy drive while holiday shopping, as 20-percent of each purchase made was donated to New York City Mission Society.

Joining the Junior Society in support of their annual toy drive were Martin Shafiroff, Roy Kean, Maggie Norris, and Stanley and Leah Rumbough, and many more.

Guests dressed in festive seasonal attire enjoyed holiday cocktails, cookies, chocolate, and cupcakes, while shopping and playing with the many interactive toys of pilotage, ranging from electronic helicopters, airplanes, and cars.

Serving both fun-seekers and enthusiasts across New York, Pilotage Fun & Hobby provides clients with a wide selection of affordable and enjoyable radio control model airplanes, helicopters, cars and boats, games and gadgets.

Pilotage Fun & Hobby opened its doors in March 2012, under the watchful eye of Managing Director William Dickey, who envisioned a destination that offers entertaining, innovative, and most importantly, interactive products to satisfy the needs and stimulate the minds of consumers with discriminating tastes, from knowledge-seeking school kids to city dwellers and parents seeking more sophisticated outdoor activities to share with their children. Pilotage Fun & Hobby aims to introduce a more engaging, gratifying and traditional – though rapidly evolving – form of recreation to a younger generation that is overwhelmed by digital entertainment.

The NYC Mission Society will be accepting donations throughout the entire holiday season, and can be made online at: www.nycharities.org.
