Lucia Kaiser is a two-time Emmy Award-winning Producer, Philanthropist, and Speaker.  Her career in the entertainment industry began at the age of 19, when she became the first female Talent Booker for the Johnny Carson Show.  After a successful career working for NBC, Lucia went on to establish the first all-women Advertising Agency in New York City entitled Venus.  Her exciting career on Madison Avenue exposed Lucia to professionals from all walks of life.  She was soon offered the position to become the President of Studio Film Exchange, an organization that purchases and markets award-winning documentary films.

Amid her flourishing film career in New York City, while on a leisurely trip in Hong Kong, Lucia was persuaded by the martial arts legend Bruce Lee to run his film company.  After much deliberation, Lucia left New York City, to serve as the only female President of Bruce Lee’s film company in Hong Kong.  She successfully oversaw the production and distribution of some of Lee’s most famous films, including negotiating a distribution deal with Warner Brothers for the worldwide box office hit “Enter The Dragon.”

During a trip across Europe, Lucia met her husband, and together they moved from Germany to the islands of Hawaii.  Shortly after her arrival, Lucia dove right back into show biz, working on various productions for NBC and CBS.  However, Lucia’s career reached new heights when she accepted a position as the only female General Manager at Hawaii’s KGU Radio.  Among many notable productions, Lucia aggressively worked feverishly to secure the first-ever live remote broadcast of the Larry King Show in Honolulu, Hawaii.  It turned out to be the highest rated “live” remote of the Larry King Show in the U.S. and Canada.​

Coming from humble beginnings, Lucia has always had a passion for giving back.  While tirelessly producing radio shows, she actively organized fundraisers for organizations such as Partnership for the Homeless, Hawaii Symphony, Girl Scouts of America, and Hawaii Theatre.  Lucia decided to engage Mikhail Baryshnikov to come give a one-time special performance in Hawaii, and from it, she reached her goal to raise enough funds to finance a ballet school for the children of Hawaii.  As a result of her fundraising efforts, Lucia became the Democratic Chairperson during both terms of President Bill Clinton’s administration.

In addition to her endeavors in the entertainment industry, Lucia has been a Keynote Speaker at notable venues including the United Nations.  She was asked to speak on film financing at the Venice Film Festival.  In addition, Lucia was a motivational speaker.  Lucia continues to engage in the socio-political landscape of our times.  Most notably with Destiny Rescue, which is a non-profit organization devoted to saving young children from sex trafficking all over the world, including in Cambodia, Thailand, and the Dominican Republic.  She continues to champion the cause of fighting sex trafficking.

Lucia is presently bringing in the funding to Produce Al Pacino starring as Albert Einstein.  In addition, she is writing her treatment on her lifestory to finally be on a very long TV Series.

The film tells the story of how the Foundation’s creator, Frank Shankwitz, was able to part from childhood trauma and transform into helping millions of children across the world.

Meet Frank Shankwitz, a motorcycle cop struggling with his past and emotional childhood trauma after being ripped apart from his father by an emotionally abusive mother.

In what seems to be a nasty separation or divorce, Frank’s mother has done everything to keep Frank and his father apart, until he appears on their property wanting to see Frank. Before parting ways, he gives Frank a cowboy hat as a reminder that he will always be with him.

Wanting to spend time with his father, Frank’s mom decides to forcibly take Frank away, throwing him in the car, leaving nothing behind but the cowboy hat on the dusty ground. Unbeknownst to Frank, his father is on a life-long mission to track down his son and bring him back “home.”

Flash forward to Frank grown up as a motorcycle cop, we see him as a closed-off figure. Until Michael. The police department brings young Michael to visit the precinct and meet everyone.

However, he is forced to face his past and change his future when he’s almost killed in a freak car accident on a desolate highway.

This life-altering incident sparks a chain reaction that places Shankwitz on a difficult and painful path towards redemption, leading him to an unexpected relationship Michael, terminally ill with leukemia, with a life expectancy of one week. The result? An unexpected relationship between Shankwitz and the boy, but most importantly, Shankwitz discovering a light that has been buried deep within since he was a child.

Although noteworthy African-American Renaissance man Gordon Parks passed away in 2006 at the age of 93, his creative and philanthropic legacy persists. Perhaps the fact that Parks was at various times throughout his life a photojournalist, musician, writer, and film director is what resonates with such a wide cross section of the creative class. Supporters in attendance at the 10th annual Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner at Cipriani 42nd Street last night included Swizz Beatz, Usher, Victor Cruz, and 1990’s MTV icon Fab Five Freddy. And if Karl Lagerfeld lends his name to your event’s host committee every year—despite not always attending—the cause must have a certain degree of gravitas. In his absence, however, Lagerfeld did donate for the evening’s auction a trip to Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2017 show and private tour of Coco Chanel’s Rue Cambon apartment. That lot alone brought in $16,000 for an arts education scholarship.

This year’s honorees were Bryan Stevenson (founder of the Equal Justice Initiative), photographer LaToya Ruby Frazier, Janelle Monáe, and Public School’s Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow. Leonard and Judy Glickman Lauder received the Patron of the Arts award. “It’s such a joy to be honored tonight, and almost undeserved,” Osborne said. “Gordon Parks did so much with his mediums and his works. But for me and Dao-Yi tonight, we haven’t quite achieved that level—yet. But it makes us want to work that much harder. It’s hard to change the world!”

After the ceremony, we caught up with the foundation’s executive director, Peter Kunhardt, Jr., about what makes Gordon Parks so perennially important to New York’s creative communities. “We’re in a time when the country is having so many issues not only politically but also with discrimination and race and gender and identity,” he said. “We’re an organization that’s about celebrating arts and creativity, looking at these issues through Mr. Parks’s photographs. But the point isn’t just to honor Gordon Parks’s legacy, but to inspire the next generation of artists.”

Twenty-one scholarships were given out last night, but in the middle of the program, Usher and Swizz Beatz interrupted the live auction to announce that they had decided to give 27 more.

Kong is an Adjunct Professor at PACE University, a Teacher Fellow of the Pace University STEM Center Collaboratory, and a 2013 Math for America Master Teacher. Kong received a BA in biology and MA in science education from New York University.
