The former United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, appointed in 2015 Jean Todt as his Special Envoy for Road Safety. He was reconfirmed in this role by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, in 2017 and in 2021. The Special Envoy contributes, among other things, to mobilize sustained political commitment to make road safety a priority; to advocate and raise awareness of UN legal instruments on road safety; to share established good practices in this area; to striving to generate adequate funding through strategic partnerships between the public, private and non-governmental sectors. As part of these efforts, in 2018, together with 14 UN organizations, the Special Envoy launched the UN Road Safety Fund (UNRSF). Special Envoy brochure and X account.

The Summer of Peace leading up to September 21st gives us the opportunity to take a stand on Peace Day as one human community united in hope. On Monday’s Tele-conference we will discuss plans at the UN and hear guests around the world including Angelina Gabaitse who works with We, The World in Botswana. These inspiring changemakers are serving a wide range of causes while building together a new culture of peace. Guests include young people who will recite a poem, and sing or play music.

We will create a Human Peace Sign, the largest ever in Times Square, NYC, for the focus on Education for Children & Grandchildren. We will join the world for a moment of silence, plant a peace pole, have a sing-a-long, hold the flags of the world, hear nonprofits share their Acts of Peace for children and more.
