In an in-depth dialogue with Jacky Zhang, it felt like leafing through a comprehensive encyclopedia. Some might find it hard to believe, and I too was skeptical before meeting Zhang: how could someone be likened to an encyclopedia? Is he artificial intelligence? Or something akin to ChatGPT? As the China Institute’s centenary approaches, Co-Chair Yue-Sai Kan dreams of 100 Chinese enterprises emulating Haier Group’s donation of $1 million to the China Institute’s new open Chinese kitchen. Zhang, embodying his investor’s spirit, advised on financing strategies and emphasized modernizing the donation mechanism, akin to Harvard University’s endowment fund. Visiting the New York Institute of Finance, Zhang praised Dean Tian Li for her forward-looking vision and ability to create a global financial training platform.

At the Virgin Hotel-a collaborative project between New York real estate mogul John Lam and Richard Branson-Zhang proposed establishing a “Tech Innovation Kitchen Fund” to introduce humanoid robots into the hotel’s open kitchen on Broadway, attracting tourists with innovative culinary experiences.

During a dinner at Fushimi, a high-end Japanese restaurant owned by Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce President Daniel Chen, Zhang suggested opening a fifth Fushimi restaurant in California’s Newport Beach to cater to the new affluent Chinese community.

At Central Park Tower 100, Zhang admired the beauty of Central Park, reflecting on its reputation as “New York’s green lung” and its representation of urban beauty.

Girls at a very young age are curious about science and math—about 74% of kindergarten girls want to go into STEM—but by the time they reach middle school, only 15-20% remain interested.

 First TWC Learning Lab in Brooklyn to Provide Access to Computers

and High-Speed Internet For the Benefit of Local Residents

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, AUGUST 13, 2012 – Time Warner Cable today was joined by the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) and local officials to open a state-of-the-art Learning Lab at Good Shepherd Services in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The community services organization is the first in the borough to receive a Learning Lab, which is a Time Warner Cable-funded initiative providing New Yorkers with access to computers, e-learning programs and high-speed Internet to assist with their educational and professional development needs.

“Time Warner Cable is proud to partner with Good Shepherd Services, a prestigious organization which throughout its long history has improved the lives of countless New Yorkers,” said Brien Kelley, Time Warner Cable’s Area Vice President of Operations for Brooklyn and Queens. “We are excited to invest in Park Slope and look forward to our Learning Lab having a positive impact on the surrounding community.”

The Learning Lab is powered by high-speed Internet from Time Warner Cable Business Class, which is also providing the lab’s television and HD DVR services. The facility is also fully equipped with computers, computer software, printers and a HD television that are completely underwritten by Time Warner Cable. The value of the donation exceeds $50,000.

The Learning Lab at Good Shepherd Services is the fifth technology center that Time Warner Cable has officially opened in New York City. Additional Learning Labs are located at the Police Athletic League Center in Harlem, Sunnyside Community Services in Sunnyside, Queens, Gerard Carter Community Center in Stapleton, Staten Island, and the James Weldon Johnson Community Center in Harlem. Time Warner Cable made the commitment to open 40 computer centers enabled by broadband, branded as Learning Labs, when it renewed its franchise with the City of New York last year. LEARNING LAB AT GOOD SHEPHERD SERVICES

First TWC Learning Lab in Brooklyn to Provide Access to Computers
and High-Speed Internet For the Benefit of Local Residents

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, AUGUST 13, 2012 – Time Warner Cable today was joined by the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) and local officials to open a state-of-the-art Learning Lab at Good Shepherd Services in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The community services organization is the first in the borough to receive a Learning Lab, which is a Time Warner Cable-funded initiative providing New Yorkers with access to computers, e-learning programs and high-speed Internet to assist with their educational and professional development needs.

“Time Warner Cable is proud to partner with Good Shepherd Services, a prestigious organization which throughout its long history has improved the lives of countless New Yorkers,” said Brien Kelley, Time Warner Cable’s Area Vice President of Operations for Brooklyn and Queens. “We are excited to invest in Park Slope and look forward to our Learning Lab having a positive impact on the surrounding community.”

The Learning Lab is powered by high-speed Internet from Time Warner Cable Business Class, which is also providing the lab’s television and HD DVR services. The facility is also fully equipped with computers, computer software, printers and a HD television that are completely underwritten by Time Warner Cable. The value of the donation exceeds $50,000.

The Learning Lab at Good Shepherd Services is the fifth technology center that Time Warner Cable has officially opened in New York City. Additional Learning Labs are located at the Police Athletic League Center in Harlem, Sunnyside Community Services in Sunnyside, Queens, Gerard Carter Community Center in Stapleton, Staten Island, and the James Weldon Johnson Community Center in Harlem. The next Learning Lab to open will be at a Manhattan facility in Chinatown operated by the Chinese-American Planning Council.

Time Warner Cable made the commitment to open 40 computer centers enabled by broadband, branded as Learning Labs, when it renewed its franchise with the City of New York last year. In partnership with local not-for-profit organizations, the Labs enable Time Warner Cable to provide free broadband access to low-income communities throughout its service area.

Time Warner Cable’s New York City service area includes Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and western Brooklyn, Mt. Vernon, NY, as well as Bergen and Hudson Counties in New Jersey.
