MvVO ART, creator of AD ART SHOW, held an Advertising Industry Opening Reception hosted by Havas New York in downtown Manhattan. The reception was the official kickoff to the AD ART SHOW 2022 going on May 1-31, 2022, at Westfield World Trade Center inside the Oculus.

Many artists from this year’s show, as well as some from previous years, attended the winners presentation, saw previews of the show on various screens, and enjoyed wine sponsored by Havas New York and Annex88 client Stags’ Leap Winery, one of Treasury Wine Estates’ properties, and hors d’oeuvres. Following the reception, guests were invited to the Oculus to watch the AD ART SHOW 2022 on the monumental screens.

Notable attendees included: Maria van Vlodrop, Laura Maness, Dan Lucey, Laura Skoler, Isaac Aden, Eric Shiner, Chanell Angeli, Parme Marin, Layla Nami, Lindsay Stein, Will Lewis, and Loris van Vlodrop.

During the reception, MvVO ART announced that Chanell Angeli had won first place in the AD ART SHOW 2022. Chanell Angeli received a Specialty Clio in Contemporary Art from the MvVO ART jury of collectors. Her work as a mixed-media artist of Caribbean descent draws on her heritage as well as her interest in the relationship between poetry and visual art to create immersive experiences that explore themes of the divine feminine and the African Diaspora. Her work is full of emotional depth and intelligence.

Parme Marin and Layla Nami were also named winners of the 2022 show. Parme Marin explores “La Peau” (the skin) by creating works of art out of leather, hair, and wood. Layla Nami’s vibrant imagery is influenced by Persian folktales, medieval tapestries, and illuminated manuscripts.

“The talent represented in the 2022 selection of 120 artists is extraordinary. When people comment on the diversity of our artists, I can only say that this is organic and reflects the creative people with roots in advertising and commercial design. The diversity of artistic talent is on display. Discover them daily on MvVO ART’s Instagram (@mvvoart)” said Maria van Vlodrop, MvVO ART CEO and Founder. In 2020, Maria van Vlodrop was named as a “Cultural Shaper” in Adweek’s annual Creative 100 List.

In 2018, MvVO ART debuted AD ART SHOW at Sotheby’s New York. The 2022 edition, now in its fifth year, brings art directly to people by converting an advertising platform—the massive digital screens at Westfield World Trade Center inside the Oculus in New York—into a public gallery space for an entire month. From May 1 to 31, 2022, the iconic Oculus, designed by Santiago Calatrava, will be transformed into an inspiring contemporary art destination.

The artists who are taking part have backgrounds in advertising/design or other related fields. They are following in the footsteps of Andy Warhol, Rene Magritte, and Edward Hopper, among others. Historically, some artists have made the leap, but the barriers remain; and the MvVO ART/AD ART SHOW opens the doors for these talented artists with direct connections to the art world in a celebration of artistic discovery open to all art lovers. It serves as a link between the art world and the advertising world.

In keeping with the historical connections between Art and Advertising, MvVO ART/AD ART SHOW includes influential figures in both contemporary Art and Advertising on the initial Selection Committee and Jury of Collectors. Laura Skoler, Board of Directors, New Museum, NYC, and the Daniel and Florence Guerlain Drawing Foundation, Paris chairs both the Selection Committee and the Jury. Eric Shiner, a noted curator and formerly the Director of the Andy Warhol Museum, serves on the selection committee. Landmark Women’s Health Study Significant For Baby Boomers! “Classic Good News” 07/27/07

With approximately 38 million Baby Boomer American women in their mid 40’s to mid 60’s entering a new stage in their lives, it’s no surprise that health issues are one of their top concerns. From retirement to leisure, they are redefining all aspects of what getting older means and are looking for ways to take control over health conditions that interfere with their everyday lives. Yet, a recent landmark study reveals that at least one third of women in this generation suffer from one or more pelvic health conditions, but many suffer in silence because they lack the knowledge to ask about treatment.
Now there is a new education awareness campaign being launched on June 19 designed to arm women with the tools and knowledge necessary to overcome this problem. In addition, results of the new study, the first-ever research on this area of women’s health, will be revealed.

NEW YORK, Jan. 25, 2018 — Sony Corporation (“Sony”) and Blue Note Media Group (“Blue Note” / “BNMG”) – the sponsorship affiliate of Blue Note Entertainment Group, the organization that owns, operates, licenses, and/or programs 10 music venues worldwide including the iconic Blue Note Jazz Club – today announced a landmark strategic sponsorship agreement. As part of the sponsorship, Sony will collaborate with Blue Note to open “Sony Hall,” a new music venue in Manhattan, sponsor the annual Blue Note Jazz Festival each June in New York City, as well as other plans to be announced.

Located in the heart of New York’s Theatre District (235 W. 46th St at the Paramount Hotel, in the space previously known as Diamond Horseshoe), Sony Hall is scheduled to open in Spring 2018. Owned, operated and programmed by Blue Note, Sony Hall will present world renowned performing artists across all music genres at capacities of 1,000 standing and 500 seated, with a full-service restaurant and bar. Sony Hall will be equipped with Sony’s technologies, integrated throughout the 12,000 square-foot venue to deliver enhanced entertainment experiences to fans. Grand opening plans, headliners, and additional venue details will be announced in the coming weeks.

In addition to the opening of Sony Hall, Sony will sponsor the annual Blue Note Jazz Festival in New York City, scheduled for June 1-30, 2018. Established in 2011 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Blue Note Jazz Club New York, Blue Note Jazz Festival has annually grown into one of the largest music events in New York City, featuring over 100 events in 10 venues over the course of 30 days (June 1 through 30 annually). With nightly events at BNEG venues such as Blue Note Jazz Club, Highline Ballroom, BB King Blues Club, among other locations throughout the city, past festival headliners include Aretha Franklin, The Roots, Wyclef Jean, Natalie Cole, Brian Wilson, and more.

The world famous Apollo Theater is so much more than a historic landmark – it is a source of pride and a symbol of the brilliance of American artistic accomplishment. With its rich history and continued significance, the Apollo Theater, considered the bastion of African-American culture and achievement, is one of the most fascinating chronicles in American history. APOLLO THEATER HISTORY ….the Apollo probably exerted a greater influence upon popular culture than any other entertainment venue in the world. For blacks it was the most important cultural institution–not just the greatest black theatre, but a special place to come of age emotionally, professionally, socially, and politically. Ted Fox, “Showtime at the Apollo” The neo-classical theater known today as the Apollo Theater was designed by George Keister and first owned by Sidney Cohen. In 1914, Benjamin Hurtig and Harry Seamon obtained a thirty-year lease on the newly constructed theater calling it Hurtig and Seamon’s New Burlesque Theater. Like many American theaters during this time, African-Americans were not allowed to attend as patrons or to perform. In 1933 Fiorello La Guardia, who would later become New York City’s Mayor, began a campaign against burlesque. Hurtig & Seamon’s was one of many theaters that would close down. Cohen reopened the building as the 125th Street Apollo Theatre in 1934 with his partner, Morris Sussman serving as manager. Cohen and Sussman changed the format of the shows from burlesque to variety revues and redirected their marketing attention to the growing African-American community in Harlem. Frank Schiffman and Leo Brecher took over the Apollo in 1935. The Schiffman and Brecher families would operate the Theater until the late 1970s. The Apollo reopened briefly in 1978 under new management then closed again in November 1979. In 1981, it was purchased by Percy Sutton a prominent lawyer, politician, media and technology executive, and a group of private investors. Under Sutton’s ownership, the Theater was equipped with a recording and television studio. In 1983, the Apollo received state and city landmark status and in 1991, Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc., was established as a private, not-for-profit organization to manage, fund and oversee programming for the Apollo Theater. Today, the Apollo, which functions under the guidance of a Board of Directors, presents concerts, performing arts, education and community outreach programs.
