Dr. Karsh earned his MD from The Chicago Medical School. He completed his General Surgical training at The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and his Urology Residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Karsh was a co-founder of The Urology Center of Colorado which was recently acquired by Advent Health Urology Denver where he serves as an attending Urologist and Director of Research. He is a certified principal investigator with an experience of more than 275 clinical trials. Dr. Karsh has authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and serves on the editorial boards for “Bladder Cancer.” He is an active member of the AUA, , ASCO, BCAN, SUO,SWOG and the Denver Academy of Surgeons. Dr. Karsh served on the board of SUO from 2010-2020 and served on the bladder cancer subcommittee during that time.

The high number of U.S. adults that have delayed or avoided medical care during the pandemic has led to adverse health outcomes, including increased risk for heart disease and stroke, and the latest data shows that cardiovascular disease is trending in the wrong direction. After the first year of the pandemic, there was a rise in heart disease and stroke-related deaths and declines in physical activity.
As the end of the year quicky approaches, many Americans may be thinking about how they can get their health back on track – such as getting back to the doctor and making new year’s resolutions.
Based on age and health status, there are many factors that Americans should be considering when talking to their doctor, especially when it comes to heart disease and stroke. It’s important for people to ask their doctor the right questions, including what healthy blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels are, and how they can check those levels at home. It’s also a good time to check with a doctor on small steps they can take, like activity and diet, to live a heart healthy lifestyle.
Heart disease is the number one cause of death for Black adults in the US. As with too many other issues, Black adults are disproportionately impacted – rates of premature heart disease are 87% higher for Black adults than white adults. CDC Foundation has launched a new national campaign to encourage adults to make heart health a priority—reminding them they can get to it in small steps. The “Start Small. Live Big,” effort focuses specifically on older adults (51% of adults with cardiovascular disease are age 60 or over, according to the American Heart Association).
The campaign encourages adults to get back on track with the small steps—like scheduling their medical appointments, getting active and eating healthy—so that they can get back to living big.
The CDC Foundation collaborated with CDC’s Million Hearts® Initiative to develop the campaign, designed to support CDC’s goal of preventing one million heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular events.

COVID-19 has many feeling stressed and isolated, exacerbating mental health challenges across the country. The CDC recently reported that more than two in five Americans struggle with mental or behavioral health issues due to the pandemic, with 31% noting symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder.

Now, heading into a holiday season where many are foregoing traditional gatherings, the space between us can feel even more expansive – particularly for children and families managing diabetes. A survey by Opinion Health and supported by Abbott exploring the emotional impact of diabetes on children and families found a diabetes diagnosis makes a child 73% more likely to be anxious than those without it and, nearly half of parents surveyed believed their child’s diabetes caused them to have mental health issues.

To add to this, more than 50% of people with diabetes who were diagnosed with COVID-19 have been hospitalized, highlighting the population’s higher risk for severe complications. Connected care has never been more important; advancements in health technology, paired with the uptick in telehealth, have been instrumental in helping people stay healthy, especially during the pandemic and
upcoming holiday season.

Among those companies are Comspan Communications that pioneered Western forms of entertainment in the former Soviet Union, including the syndication of the popular soap opera Santa Barbara, which ran for 10 years in the region, and Steeplechase Media that served as the primary consultant to Microsoft’s MiTV for developing interactive TV applications. Steeplechase was also involved in the early development of ITV programming, creating interactive episodes of Baywatch, Pacific Blue and over 250 episodes of Judge Judy. Mr. Namer was also the Primary Strategic Consultant to The Documentary Channel.

A cable industry pioneer, Mr. Namer began his career in 1971 at Time Incorporated Manhattan Cable, and served as Vice President and General Manager of Valley Cable Television (VCTV) in Los Angeles, the nation’s first 61-channel two-way cable system. Early life, education and military service[edit] Wilcox was born on 8 August 1947 in San Diego, California, the son of Marion G. and John C. Wilcox.[1] He was one of four children. When he was a baby, his parents divorced. He lived with his grandfather in Rawlins, Wyoming. Then when his father died, his mother worked as a secretary to provide for the family.[2] After he graduated from Rawlins High School, he worked at different jobs including acting and rodeo cowboy.

Wilcox joined the Marines in May 1967 and served 13 months in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1973.[3]

Wilcox is a graduate of Cal State Northridge.[4]

Career[edit] Early years[edit] Wilcox made a guest appearance in 1971 in Room 222. In 1973, Wilcox appeared in The Streets of San Francisco episode “The Runaways” as older brother George. Also in 1973 he starred in Lassie as Dale, one of the boys who grew up there and was now working as a hired hand. Wilcox appeared in an episode ofCannon “Target In The Mirror” S3/Ep05 1973 in an uncredited role as a witness. He performed in the 1976 film The Last Hard Men, other TV appearances includingThe Partridge Family, Hawaii Five-O, M*A*S*H, and Police Story, as well as commercials. He was the main (and only human for most of it) actor of a two-part show on the Disney anthology show in the mid 70’s playing a lone cowboy on a cattledrive to and their adventures enroute to market.

CHiPs[edit] Wilcox was cast as Jon Baker, one of the lead characters on CHiPs, an action TV series (1977–83) about California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers. Wilcox was not in season six and was cast from (1977-1982) Wilcox performed many of his own stunts on the show. Unlike his co-star Erik Estrada (who played his partner “Ponch”), Wilcox never suffered any major injuries. By the 1979–80 season, he made $25,000 per episode (the same amount as Estrada) and it escalated thereafter. During his time on CHiPs, Wilcox appeared on the cover of TV Guide three times, along with Estrada.[5]

Rumors of friction between the two had occurred late in the 1978–79 season, but it calmed down after Estrada’s injury at the beginning of the 1979–80 season as Wilcox came to his friend’s rescue. Wilcox confirmed that some of the rumors of on-set feuding were true, but minor issues blown out of proportion. He added: “We’re just two totally different people.”[6]

Wilcox is among the cast members who appeared at a reunion in Los Angeles to celebrate the series’ 35th anniversary. Wilcox filmed the event and helped raise money for policemen and for kids at risk. Wilcox stated he called Estrada to invite him, as did Robert Pine, but Estrada did not return calls nor did he show up for the event. Estrada’s manager said he was trying to establish a new and separate identity from CHiPs.[7]

After CHiPs[edit] In 1982, Wilcox left CHiPs and formed his own production company, Wilcox Productions, which produced the award winning TV series for HBO The Ray Bradbury Theater for five years. He developed, optioned and sold to MGM The Yorkshire Ripper and sold to Columbia The Wolfman Jack Story. Later Wilcox optioned Flipper and was the Executive Producer of that movie for Universal Pictures. He also continued acting and directing. Presently Wilcox works with Saratoga Entertainment which is a production and digital distribution company. He also is a consultant to Enabledware which is a rule based digital distribution software in 57 languages with a focus on digital universities and security for sports stadiums.

As stated above, Wilcox was executive producer of the TV movie Death of a Playmate: The Dorothy Stratten Story. The story had a deeper resonance for Wilcox, whose older sister was fatally shot in front of her three children, her mother and 17 witnesses. The accused murderer, her husband, was later acquitted in a celebrated trial in Wyoming and subsequently killed in a barroom brawl, according to Wilcox.[6]

Wilcox was considered for the role of Sonny Crockett in Miami Vice, which run on NBC from 1984 to 1989.[8]

Wilcox appeared in a 1985 made-for-TV movie sequel to The Dirty Dozen, called The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission. He played a convicted war prisoner Tommy Wells, recruited to help terminate a German general who is plotting to assassinate Hitler.[9]

Wilcox was reunited briefly on-screen with his former co-star Estrada in National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1, and then again in 1998, where he reprised his role of Jon Baker (now Captain Baker) in the Turner Network Television production of CHiPs ’99 along with such memorable co-stars such as Estrada (Ponch), Robert Pine (Commissioner Joe Getraer), Brodie Greer (Barry “Bear” Baricza), Paul Linke (Detective Artie Grossman) and Bruce Penhall (Sergeant Bruce Nelson).

In 2008, Wilcox had a brief cameo in the music video for Rehab’s song “Bartender Song (Sittin’ at a Bar)”. He played a California Highway Patrol Sergeant, a reference to his role on CHiPs.

He appeared in a cameo as himself dressed as “Officer Jon Baker” on the 2009 Christmas episode of 30 Rock. Wilcox also completed a cameo in the feature filmTwo Sillies.

Motor vehicle crashes remain the number one cause of death among youth ages 15-20 with nearly 1/3 of traffic accidents alcohol-related. In fact, drivers between 15 and 20 years old are more often involved in alcohol-related crashes than any other age group. And, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one third of youth under age 21 killed in alcohol-related fatalities die during the months of April, May and June.

Dr. Larry Gentilello has published key studies documenting the extraordinarily high contribution of drug and alcohol abuse to life-threatening injury and the potentially powerful impact of hospital-based trauma center interventions to reduce such problems. His research has also identified laws in many states that discourage screening and counseling for alcohol and drug problems in the emergency room and trauma center.
