It all began in 1943, as a dream of Hick & Nellie Shoults. A dream to have a business the whole family could share in-both the responsibilities and the joys!

From their little farm in Bear Bottom, nestled in the Piney Woods of East Texas, they started with just a few Turkeys, a small little Smokehouse… and a whole world of dreams yet to be realized!

The year was 1943, and the country was at war. Times were tough during those years, but the dreams and aspirations of Hick & Nellie were very much alive! Their son Bobby, then a toddler, was beginning to help Hick feed and tend to the Turkeys as well as do other chores around the Smokehouse.

As the years passed, Bear Creek Smokehouse grew from its humble start… And so did its reputation! The smoked Turkeys that had fulfilled the seasonal orders from the local grocers and Agriculture Extension office were enjoyed so much that the word spread! Year after year the demand grew for a greater selection of delicious smoked meats! Finally Hick, Nellie and Bobby made the decision to cease raising the livestock and purchase what they needed so they could concentrate their efforts on running the growing Smokehouse!

In 1959, Bobby married his sweetheart Brenda and brought her home to Bear Creek!

Brenda eagerly cherished her new role in the growing family business, cheerfully answering the seasonal calls and taking orders for the ever expanding list of smoked meat selections that Bear Creek now offered through a catalog!

Then in 1960, Bobby & Brenda welcomed Robbie to the family! This also marked what would become the next phase of remarkable growth for Bear Creek! As the years passed and the Smokehouse expanded into larger facilities, Robbie grew up receiving a first hand knowledge of the business and he began to form his ideas of what direction to take it!

In 1990 Hunter was welcomed into the Bear Creek Family! As he grew up he gained a first hand education in Smokehouse 101!

Even though Bear Creek had a significant wholesale business in place, Robbie yearned to take it to the next level. He & his bride Tracy continued to forge the growing business, complimenting it with several Holiday Gift Shows around the country. These shows met with overwhelming popularity and the business continued to grow over the next few years!

Hunter grew up, opening the door to the modern growth for Bear Creek! He turned his attention to leading the company, along with his new bride Stacia, into the next era of Bear Creek’s expansion… Fundraising!

Now, with Hunter & Stacia’s kids, Cooper & Barrett…The Fifth generation and future look bright for Bear Creek!

WHAT:   The Charles Evans PCF Pro-Am Tennis Tour was held in Bridgehampton, NY, over the weekend on Friday, August 22, to Sunday, August 24, 2014, raising over $2.5 million for the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF).

This wonderful event, returning for its tenth year, sees 32 charity amateur players take to the courts against members of the ATP Tour over two exciting days of round robin competition.   Guests and participants enjoy dining and socializing with the purpose of raising funds for the PCF in its efforts to eradicate prostate cancer, which affects one in six American men. The event kicked off on Friday with a cocktail party and dinner at the home of Julia and David Koch in Southampton. On Saturday, the first three rounds of the Pro AM tournament took place, followed by a lunch at the Palin residence. On Sunday guests enjoyed lunch at the final rounds of the Pro AM tour at the Bridgehampton Tennis and Surf Club and the Trophy Award Ceremony followed.

This year’s amateur players included: Bill Ackman, Andrew Berman, Marie Bernstein, Jerry Cohen, Jim Coleman, Mark Ein, Adam Finerman, Ralph Finerman, Bill Finneran, Larry Gagosian, Amy Griffin, John Griffin, Jeff Greene, Sammy Herzberg, Arik Kislin, Larry Leeds, Howard Marks, Hank Nordhoff, Dean Palin, Joel Pashcow, John Paulson, Brian Reynolds, Zach Schreiber, Steve Schwarzman, Howard Shore, Roger Stein, and Dax Vlassis.

Pro players included: Alex Asta, Guillermo Canas, Scott Davis, Ashley Fisher, Mariusz Fyrstenberg, Teymuraz Gabashvili, Chris Haggard, Luke Jensen, Murphy Jensen, Don Johnson, Robert Kendrick, Kevin Kim, Rick Leach, Jason Lipsky, Alex O’Brien, Jared Palmer, Jason Pinsky.   RESULTS:

Team 1 versus Team 2:  Winner was Arik Kislin; Runner-up was Bill Ackman

The PCF Pro-AM Tennis Tournaments has raised over $12.5 million to date over 13 years.   The Pro-Am Tour is a fitting memorial to the life of Charles Evans. He was committed to helping others, turning his personal tragedies into philanthropic causes. Charles Evans, an avid tennis player, would be proud of what is being done to fight prostate cancer through these events. When his father developed Alzheimer’s disease in the late 1960s, Mr. Evans made large donations to Alzheimer’s research and eventually became national director of the Alzheimer’s Association.   In 1975, his former wife, Frances, and their two daughters, Elizabeth and Melissa, died in a fire caused by errant ashes from their fireplace. Mr. Evans created the Crusade for Fire Detection, aimed at educating the public on the need for fire detectors and lobbying for laws to make them mandatory. Charles sent out hundreds of fire detectors as gifts and chain letters. Countless lives have been saved through the mandatory laws of fire alarms.   Charles had a true zeal for life. From WWII veteran to successful entrepreneur, feature film producer, to a dedicated philanthropist. Charles was a dynamic, charismatic, old school Gentleman. He was one of a kind and adored by all worldwide.

Dr. Peter Bishop is the Chief Technology Officer www.villagegreentechcenter.com and the Co-Inventor of their technology.  Dr. Peter Bishop has been a computer professional for over thirty years.  After getting his Ph.D. at M.I.T. in 1977 in object-oriented computer systems, he met the founder of Remedy while they were together at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center.  He left PARC in 1980 to work on operating systems and compilers for the National Semiconductor 16032. He then started working for a series of startups.  He helped found Forethought, the first publisher of FileMaker, which went on to create PowerPoint. Three startups later, Dr. Bishop, developed the key technology for Aeroprise, Inc., a partner with BMC Remedy, providing their mobile solution.
