Neighborhood Improvement Association

On Friday, December 10th hundreds of Brooklyn families will be awarded with a unique

five-week nutrition education and physical fitness program developed by, Health/Exercise

Lifestyle Plan (HELP). The program will reach 300 children and 150 parents, with the goal

of instilling healthy behaviors, including physical activity and smart nutritional choices.

HELP will be offered by the Neighborhood Improvement Association (NIA) Community Services

Network and is made possible through a $25,000 Active Healthy Living grant from The

Coca-Cola Foundation.

The Coca-Cola Foundation will present the grant check to Mary Anne Cino, CEO, NIA Community

Services Network and Bernadette Fitzgerald, Principal, PS 503 elementary school in

Brooklyn. The event will also feature remarks from area dignitaries and a lively address

on nutrition and healthy active living from registered dietitian Cristina Rivera who will

then lead the schools 300 students on a walk and other fun exercises like skipping and

walking sideways and backward.

NIA Community Services Network is a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to improve

the quality of life for people living in Brooklyn. It is one of sixteen organizations

selected to receive part of $300,000 in Active Healthy Living grants that The Coca-Cola

Foundation is giving to non-profit organizations in California, New York and Texas to

support family-oriented physical activity and nutrition education programs.
