TURNED THE CHALLENGES OF THEIR TEENAGE SON’S RARE DISEASE INTO A MISSION FOR RAISING AWARENESS

Clinton Moore – a devoted father and tireless advocate for his son, who lives with a rare disease called cystinosis – is on a mission to help bring awareness to the condition that has affected his son’s life and impacted his family to its core.

In a new documentary that recently premiered, Moore describes when his son was first diagnosed with cystinosis, and how difficult it was to accept the doctor’s conclusion. A rare disease diagnosis wasn’t the answer he wanted, but he soon came to understand it.

Cystinosis is a rare genetic disease that results in an abnormal accumulation of the amino acid cystine in various organs and tissues of the body such as the kidneys, eyes, muscles, pancreas and brain. Symptoms usually appear early in a child’s first year of life, and it’s a lifelong disease. Cystine accumulation can lead to kidney failure, muscle wasting, swallowing difficulty, diabetes, and hypothyroidism, among other issues. Without treatment, children with cystinosis will usually develop end stage kidney failure or die prematurely.

Moore says since cystinosis never stops, so neither does he. In the film, he explains that giving up hope means you’ve completely given up, so he won’t allow that to happen. In a heartwarming moment in the film, Moore explains how amazed he is that his son has chosen to be as happy as he is each day, considering all his challenges. Part of his son’s daily routine includes a regimen of dozens of pills and eye drops every waking hour.

Moore has been doing all he can to bring attention to the disease. In the documentary, Moore can be seen completing a 57-mile walk within 24 hours, dedicated to bringing awareness and support to the cystinosis community.

He believes more awareness about the disease is crucial in helping to raise money for research and he won’t stop doing all he can until a cure is found. Moore’s passion has moved him from being a parent on the sideline not thinking he could make a difference, to the president of the Cystinosis research Network (CRN) the longest standing active non-profit supporting cystinosis families worldwide.

One in 10 Americans are affected by a rare disease, so it’s important to bring attention to the issues surrounding them. Also noteworthy is the fact that many treatments developed for rare diseases have been repurposed, which is the identification and application of already approved drugs to treat new diseases.

Clinton Moore, patient advocate and CRN president, will be available to talk about the documentary, the organization CRN, the disease and how to support those afflicted with the cystinosis.

Under President Trump the United States has without a doubt seen a resurgence and renaissance in all aspects of our society, with stock markets breaking record highs, over 7 million new jobs created and millions of people off food stamps…But to our liberals in Hollywood, in Ivy League campuses and news rooms and studios of the mainstream media companies, as well as many politicians in our city halls, state capitals and the Washington DC beltway, socialism is more appealing than ever, leading to the national disgraces in places like San Francisco and New York City and witnessing the masses of brainwashed young generations enamored by the prowess and beauty of socialist and communist ideas and achievements.

America is at a crossroads.

Making the Case for Capitalism: Panel, Keynote and Book Signing, aims to make a case for capitalism and help clarify the vision for our great country by engaging a group of top thought leaders of America to offer their insights and perspectives on the advantages and disadvantages of capitalism and socialism.
The Panelists:
Stephen Moore – Distinguished Visiting Fellow, Project for Economic Growth, at The Heritage Foundation.
As Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Heritage, Moore focuses on advancing public policies that increase the rate of economic growth to help the United States retain its position as the global economic superpower. He also works on budget, fiscal and monetary policy and showcases states that get fiscal houses in order.
“One of the projects I’m going to be working on is how President Obama has discredited liberal ideas more than anyone,” Moore said in an interview with The Foundry upon his return to Heritage. “Everything he’s done has been such a massive failure — from the [economic] stimulus to health-care reform to bailouts to green energy.
Moore’s early career was shaped by three people who had a profound influence on him: Julian Simon, the late Cato Institute scholar; Edwin J. Feulner, a co-founder of Heritage; and Art Laffer, the economist best known for the Laffer curve.
“What makes them so great is they were willing to take on the conventional wisdom. They were subject to a lot of criticism for doing that,” Moore told The Foundry. “Those are the real change-makers.”
Moore calls his creation of the Club for Growth the defining moment of his career. The organization, which he left in 2004, helps elect conservative members of Congress (including Heritage President Jim DeMint when he first ran for Senate).
Moore next founded the Free Enterprise Fund before joining The Wall Street Journal. As senior economics writer for the newspaper’s editorial board, he covered Washington policy debates and state issues.
“Because I’ve been a consumer of think tank material and policy research, I think I have a pretty good sense of what reporters want and how to get it to them in the way they want it,” Moore said. “Being timely — and not just offering opinion but giving them the facts and data is really critical.”
Moore, who grew up in New Trier Township, Ill., received a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He holds a Masters of Arts in economics from George Mason University.

David Wilcox – Serial deal maker and entrepreneur

David is the Chairman & CEO of Evolution Metals Corp. based in West Palm Beach, Florida. In addition, he holds numerous leadership positions in the private investment space, globally.

Mr. Wilcox’s career began at Deutsche Bank, based in both the London and New York offices, operating across 4 continents. He is a derivatives trading specialist but has also ran teams spanning various regulatory overhaul initiatives, driving value from government policy change.

Mr. Wilcox holds a Bachelor in Business from the University of Tennessee, and a Masters from St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, England.

Samuel Zhang – PhD, MBA – Chief Business Officer of NeoImmune Tech.

Dr. Zhang has nearly 20 years of drug development & commercialization experiences with industry leaders such as Pfizer and Novartis, and the unique expertise to strategically integrate commercial, scientific, medical, and financial perspectives into drug development and investment decision making.

He led the initial registration strategy of Bristol Meyers Squibb’s breakthrough cancer immunotherapy drug nivolumab that helped generate ~$4B/year in sales.

In his spare time, Dr. Zhang more than quadrupled his investment portfolio of biotech stocks over the last three and half years, by identifying winners before the Wall Street professionals given his industry expertise.

Dr. Zhang holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology from Columbia University, an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, and a B.S. in biology from Peking University.

Moderator
Dr. Douglas L. Ambler, internal medicine physician at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital and medical director of quality for Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group, alongside Norman Moore, PhD., Director of Scientific Affairs of Infectious Disease with Abbott Rapid Diagnostics to talk about the importance of flu testing and how best to detect and treat the flu this upcoming season.

As another flu season rapidly approaches, the need for fast, accurate flu testing is more important than ever.

The flu, or influenza, is a highly contagious viral infection that attacks the respiratory system, and is sometimes mistaken for the common cold, making it difficult for people to receive the treatment they need. With rapid flu testing at the point of care, people can be diagnosed and treated for the flu within minutes, right at their doctor’s office or nearby walk-in clinic.

The flu spreads easily and can pose serious risks for certain groups, including some of our most vulnerable populations – children, pregnant women, elderly adults and people with chronic disease or weak immune systems. According to the CDC, in the U.S. there are an estimated 9.3 to 49 million flu cases each year. The flu and its complications cause as many as 960,000 hospitalizations every year, and according to recent data from the CDC, nearly 80,000 people died from the flu last year.

It’s important to get tested by a doctor if you think you have the flu. Antiviral medications that attack the flu virus work best when administered early – within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms – and speed your path to recovery. And knowing now means you can take precautions from spreading the flu to others if you are infected.

Medical experts say it’s never too early or late to begin preparing for the flu season, especially given the last flu season was so brutal. Since flu season is incredibly unpredictable, making sure you and your family are prepared is for everyone’s benefit, not just your own.

With World Stroke Day coming up on October 29th, stroke survivor, American Stroke Association regional ambassador, and author of the memoir A Stroke of Faith: A Stroke Survivor’s Story of a Second Chance at Living a Life of Significance Mark Moore is looking to educate others about stroke prevention and recovery.

A successful business man and entrepreneur, loving husband and father, and avid basketball-lover, Mark Moore had it all. But in May 2007, at the age of 46, his entire life changed when he suffered two strokes. After spending a month in a medically-induced coma, Mark underwent intensive rehabilitation, including speech therapy, physical therapy, and having to relearn basic life skills such as writing a check and tying his shoes. Now, 10 years later, he has made a near-full recovery due to extensive rehabilitation, the expertise of caregivers, and what he calls the three Fs: family, friends, and faith.

Mary Tyler Moore (December 29, 1936 – January 25, 2017) was an American actress, known for her roles in the television sitcoms The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970–1977), in which she starred as Mary Richards, a thirtyish single woman who worked as a local news producer in Minneapolis, and The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–1966), in which she played Laura Petrie, a former dancer turned Westchester homemaker, wife and mother. Her notable film work includes 1967’s Thoroughly Modern Millie and 1980’s Ordinary People, in which she played a role that was very different from the television characters she had portrayed, and for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.

She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes early in the run of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She also suffered from alcoholism, which she wrote about in her first of two memoirs.

Two days of music honoring and featuring the internationally acclaimed composer, Carman Moore, a recent Guggenheim Fellowship winner, and noted conductor, author and educator, will be presented at Manhattan’s West Park Presbyterian Church (165 W.86th Street at Amsterdam Ave.) on October 18th and 19th. Moore has composed music in many genres—orchestral symphonies, concertos, chamber, meditational and choral music. His amazing scope of work also includes film, theatre, dance and ballet scores, operas, lyrics for a rock recording and a pop/rock concept album (about Dante & Beatrice), to mention a few. Each of the two days offers a diversity of music including two world premieres, one on each evening

Featured on October 18th beginning at 8 p.m, will be the world-renowned electro-acoustic SKYMUSIC ENSEMBLE, conducted by Moore. The program includes a world premiere, TO HIGH HEAVENS, and a recently premiered mixed media piece by Moore, THE QUIET PIECE, which includes a dancer and spectacular projections designed by Carlotta Bertolotto (Julie Taymor)

The October 19th concert at 7 p.m. features the world premiere of the dramatic song cycle GIRL OF DIAMOND MOUNTAIN co-composed and performed by Moore and Danish vocalist/composer Lotte Arnsbjerg. The piece is about a young girl who suffers sexual abuse and finds a degree of peace through love and spiritual growth. Also on the 19th the EKS jazz trio, led by Skymusic pianist J. Eric Johnson, will play a program featuring Johnson’s variations on works by Moore and the late Skymusic Ensemble violinist Leroy Jenkins. Moore founded the Skymusic Ensemble in 1980 and has been composing works for the group ever since.

While many Carman Moore works (for example the 1993 LOVE NOTES TO CENTRAL PARK performed in three park spaces with the Pearson/Widrig Dance company) have featured performance in alternative spaces using mixed-media, many of his works have been commissioned and played by world-famous establishment ensembles such as the N.Y. Philharmonic (Pierre Boulez), San Francisco Symphony (Seiji Ozawa), The Cleveland Orchestra (Isaiah Jackson), and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Recently his CONCERTO FOR ORNETTE was performed by The New Juilliard Ensemble orchestra.

These concerts offer a rare occasion to hear a diversity of Moore’s compositions and two world premieres.
