Sean Mendelson Shares the Legacy of “Peanuts” and a Message of Global Harmony on “Good News Broadcast” with Reverend Paul Sladkus

(New York, NY – November 2025) — The spirit of timeless storytelling and global unity came together when Sean Mendelson, musician, voice actor, and son of the legendary Peanuts producer Lee Mendelson, appeared on “Good News Broadcast” with Reverend Paul Sladkus, founder of Good News Corporation and creator of International Peace Day in Times Square. The inspiring conversation celebrated 75 years of Charles M. KORI WITHERS is an accomplished singer-songwriter and the daughter of Bill Withers. She began writing her first songs as a teenager. Kori graduated from Columbia University (BA) and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (MFA, Musical Theatre Writing). As a guest of her father, she has performed at events with legends Marilyn and Alan Bergman, Hal David, and Charles Fox, as well as with contemporary artists Aloe Blacc, Gregory Porter and Ed Sheeran. She was a featured artist on Booker T. Jones’ Sound the Alarm LP and performed as a special guest on his Blue Note Tokyo Tour. She was a special guest of Jose James on his Lean On Me: Bill Withers Tribute Tour. Co-writing credits include “Live Like A Warrior” by Matisyahu and “Don’t Worry” by Judith Hill. A few personal highlights for Kori were performing with her father at his Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction (2006) and at Oprah Winfrey’s “Legends Who Paved The Way Gospel Brunch” (2015). MARCIA WITHERS is the wife of the late music icon singer/songwriter Bill Withers. She oversaw Bill’s career management and as head of Withers Entertainment and the Mattie Music Group in Los Angeles, she controls the family’s publishing companies, and its worldwide sub-publisher representatives. She has been instrumental in the placement of Bill’s songs in countless films, television programs and other media, and played a creative role in many of Bill’s recording compilations. She is the co-producer of The Essential Bill Withers and a tribute show at Carnegie Hall in 2015. Marcia is a graduate of the UCLA Graduate School of Management (now Anderson School of Management) and previously worked for Management III and Concerts West. A supporter of charitable causes and board member of the Stuttering Association for the Young (SAY), she was married to Bill for 43 years. The Withers’ have two children, Todd and Kori.

Darius Harrison, also known by his stage name as “DEEZLE”, is an American record producer,[1] rapper and singer.

He was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Deezle has garnered many industry accolades for his creative works—including co-producing Lil Wayne’s hit single “Lollipop“, which lead to a grammy win alongside Jim Jonsin.^[2] From this, Deezle’s credits, music contributions, and numerous artistic collaborations expanded significantly. New Orleans-born saxophonist 2022 NEA Jazz Master Big Chief Donald
Harrison Jr. is a musician/composer whom master musicians consider a master
of every era of jazz, soul, funk, and a composer of orchestral classical music. He
is also a genius, according to geniuses like Eddie Palmieri and Mike Clark. His
alma mater, The Berklee College of Music, awarded him an Honorary Doctorate
in 2021. In the HBO drama Treme, Emmy-winning director David Simon
created two characters to portray how Harrison innovated new styles of music.
He appeared as an actor/musician in nine episodes of “Treme,” in Oscar-winning
director Johnathon Demme’s film “Rachel Getting Married,” in Spike Lee’s
“When The Levee’s Broke” documentary, and Marvel’s “Luke Cage.” This
talented artist is the recognized Big Chief of Congo Square in Afro-New Orleans
culture and was Chiefted in 2019 by Queen Diambi Kabatusuila from the
Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa.

Harrison honed his experiences playing with Roy Haynes, Art Blakey, Eddie
Palmieri, Dr. John, Lena Horne, Dr. Eddie Henderson, Miles Davis, McCoy
Tyner, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Ron Carter, Billy Cobham, Chuck Loeb, The
Headhunters, hip-hop legends Digable Planets, Guru’s Jazzmatazz, The
Notorious BIG, and The Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with
over 200 jazz masters and innovated three influential styles of jazz. At nineteen,
Harrison created a modern jazz take on the New Orleans second-line tradition
and introduced his composition, New York Second-Line, to the jazz world in
1979. By the mid-80s, he created Nouveau Swing, a distinctive sound that
blended the swing beat of modern jazz with hip-hop, funk, and soul music. In the
’90s, Harrison recorded hits in the smooth jazz genre. He began exploring music
through the lens of quantum physics in 2000. With quantum jazz, Harrison
expanded music from a two-dimensional state into a four-dimensional state.
Harrison mentored artists as diverse as Christian Scott, Darius Deezle Harrison,
Johnathon Batiste, Esperanza Spaulding, Trombone Shorty, and The Notorious
Big.

In 2024, Harrison will perform and release his recordings "Magic Touch,"
"Congo Square Suite," and" The Art of Passion" from his Omniverse Music
multi-genre singles concept.

Ma*Jid is a contemporary jazz ensemble that’s comprised of a rhythm section,
strings and brass. The band has been described by legendary musician Wynton
Marsalis as having “a unique blend of improvisation, groove and technical
sophistication.”
Ma*Jid possesses all of the significant parts of the symphony
orchestra, thus allowing the music to move freely in and out of the various
musical influences.
The Band members, (Majid Khaliq/ bandleader/ Violin, Conun Pappas/
Keyboards, Norman Paul Edwards Jr./ Drums and Alex “Busby” Smith/ Bass),
are among the most active young talent on the N.Y. jazz scene today. As a
band, the Ma*Jid has been together for about 12 years.
Since their first performance, it has been the mission of Ma*Jid to provide
diverse musical presentations. These presentations showcase the music of its resident
composer Majid Khaliq while highlighting contemporary composers at the same time.

“Living looks like still dreaming. A refusal to let cancer suffocate you while you’re still breathing,” wrote prominent spoken word artist Jae Nichelle as part of the new MM Told True campaign.

Designed to empower people with multiple myeloma (MM), MM Told True highlights the stories of those with the disease, bringing them to the forefront through spoken or visual art. In her thought-provoking poem, Jae tells the story of Oya – a committed father, podcaster, aspiring musician and advocate for health equity in the Black community – who was diagnosed with MM in 2017, despite difficulty having his concerns taken seriously.

Since his diagnosis, Oya has become an outspoken member of the MM community, with the hope that others will reach a quicker diagnosis and feel supported through treatment.

MM is a currently incurable cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow with over 34,000 new cases estimated to be diagnosed in 2023. Even with treatment, the disease tends to relapse – meaning symptoms come back after temporarily improving – or progress.

Patients report feeling like they’re inside a maze, as promising treatment paths repeatedly hit a wall. MM disproportionately impacts ethnic and racial minority groups in incidence, onset and outcome, with Black patients twice as likely to die from the disease compared with white patients.

MM Told True not only illustrates patient stories, but also provides tools and information about MM – so people living with the disease can feel educated and empowered against this relentless blood cancer.

The next phase of the campaign involves encouraging others affected by MM to share their unique stories on MMToldTrue.com, whether it comes in the form of a personal photo, a powerful message or something else that expresses how they feel. These lived experiences can serve as inspiration for people with MM and their care partners.

On March 2, Oya and Jae will be available to discuss how they came together to create meaningful art from Oya’s story, his experience living with MM, and how others can share their own stories and find support through the MM Told True website.
