Sept 2, 2025

Over 5,300+ Actions Planned from Sept 21-Oct 2 to ‘End War, Poverty, Racism and Environmental Destruction’ as part of Campaign Nonviolence

Nationwide – Between September 21 and October 2, 2025, tens of thousands of people will participate in over 5,300+ nonviolent actions to protest violence, war, poverty, racism and environmental destruction as part of the 12th annual Campaign Nonviolence Action Days.

Stretching between the International Day of Peace (Sept 21) to the International Day of Nonviolence (Oct 2), the annual effort rallies numerous national, international, and local groups to ‘build a culture of peace and active nonviolence, free from war, poverty, racism, and environmental destruction’.

Amidst concerns about gun violence, mass shootings, political violence, climate crisis, rising authoritarianism, war and genocide, Campaign Nonviolence brings people together in solidarity to work for an end to violence in all its forms. Local groups work to dismantle direct, structural, and systemic forms of violence using the tools of active nonviolence. Each group takes action on a different aspect of the broad vision, addressing issues such as immigration, discrimination, environmental destruction, health, poverty and more.

Campaign Nonviolence organizers affirm and advance the many viable nonviolent alternatives that exist, such as community safety teams, conflict resolution skills, peacebuilding, demilitarization, racial justice, restorative practices, self care, sustainability, renewable energy, living wages, civil resistance, and much more.

For 2025, people are invited to join the theme of “practicing nonviolence toward self, others, world, and earth”. The campaign calls for a range of nonviolent actions, including self care and wellness (self), community safety teams and violence de-escalation trainings (others), protests and visibility actions (world), and divestment from fossil fuels and weapons (earth). Two additional calls invite people to bring anti-militarism and anti-war leaflets to International Day of Peace events and to hold nonviolence teach-ins on Oct 2, the International Day of Nonviolence.

Collaborating organizations include: Sandy Hook Promise, Nonviolent Peaceforce, 350.org USA/Make Billionaires Pay, Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, SunDay, Cure Violence, World BEYOND War, International Cities of Peace, ICAN, DC Peace Team, Backbone Campaign, Global Silent Minute, World Cleanup Day, Unity Earth, Jared’s Heart of Success, Nonviolent Cities Project, Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action, We the World, L.O.V.E.
Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return is a 3D-animated musical based on the adventure books by Roger Stanton Baum, the great-grandson of L. Frank Baum. A continuation of one of the world’s most popular and beloved fairy tales, Legends of Oz finds Dorothy (Lea Michele) waking to post-tornado Kansas, only to be whisked back to Oz to try to save her old friends the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Lion (Jim Belushi), the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer) and Glinda (Bernadette Peters) from a devious new villain, the Jester (Martin Short). Wiser the owl (Oliver Platt), Marshal Mallow (Hugh Dancy), China Princess (Megan Hilty) and Tugg the tugboat (Patrick Stewart) join Dorothy on her latest magical journey through the colorful landscape of Oz to restore order and happiness to Emerald City. Set to the tunes of Academy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Bryan Adams, Legends of Oz marks a charming, family-friendly return to the Oz franchise.

Based on the 1994 autobiography of the same name, MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM chronicles the inspirational life of Nelson Mandela as an international icon and one of the world’s most revered leaders. Directed by Justin Chadwick (THE FIRST GRADER, THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL) and adapted by Academy Award® nominated screenwriter William Nicholson (SHADOWLANDS, GLADIATOR, LES MISERABLES), the film spans Mandela’s exceptional life journey from his early years as a herd boy in South Africa’s rural Cape region, to his days as a lawyer and Apartheid resistance leader, and on to his twenty-seven years spent in Robben Island prison before becoming the nation’s first democratically elected President. Acclaimed actor Idris Elba (THE WIRE, LUTHER, PROMETHEUS, PACIFIC RIM, THOR) stars, with Naomie Harris (THE FIRST GRADER, SKYFALL) playing the role of his wife Winnie Mandela, with whom he shared a passionate and troubled love affair that endured over decades. A stellar South African supporting cast is headlined by Tony Kgoroge (INVICTUS), Riaad Moosa(MATERIAL), Fana Mokoena (World War Z, Machine Gun Preacher), Jamie Bartlett (Beyond Borders), Deon Lotz (SKOONHEID, SLEEPER’S WAKE), Simo Mogwaza (DISTRICT 9), Terry Pheto (TSOTSI), Thapelo Mokoena (NOTHING FOR MAHALA), and Praise Singer and Poet of the Nation, Zolani Mkiva.

A New York area teen is being recognized as a true superstar. The senior from School of the Future High School has been named as a 2007 Coca-Cola Scholar not just for academic achievement, but also for outstanding leadership in school and in the community. Out of 89-thousand applicants nation-wide, she is one of only 250 finalists receiving this coveted award. And the competition isn’t over yet! Natasha speaks to us from Atlanta where other finalists are gathered for final interviews to determine just how much money they’ll receive. She joins us with Angela Harrell, Creative Director of Coca Cola Executive Communications. The best and brightest of America’s high school seniors will start college next fall with the help of their local Coca-Cola Bottler and The Coca-Cola Company.

Tow hundred and fifty students were selected as scholarship finalists from a field of more than 2,100 semifinalists (and 87,000 + original applicants) by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation based on academic excellence, school, and community extracurricular activities. The 250 high school seniors were selected from 26,000 high schools nationwide to compete for the cash scholarships from the Coca-Cola Scolars Foundation. On April 12, the finalists traveled to Atlanta, the headquarters for The Coca-Cola Company, to compete for 50 four-year college scholarships of $20,00 and 200 four-year scholarships of $10,000. Over the four-day period, the finalists interviewed with a National Selection Committee, toured Atlanta landmarks, went to an Atlanta Braves game, met with formere Coca-Cola Scholars, and participated in a range of activities including a community service project. Additionally, the 2007 Class of Coca-Cola Scholars will be recognized at a banquet hosted by Coca-Cola, educators, local dignitaries, and friends of the Scholars Foundation.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is one of the most recognized and respected corporate-sponsored scholarships in America. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation was created in 1986 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Coca-Cola and to establish a legacy for the education of tomorrows leader through college scholarships. With the Class of 2007 Scholars, more than 3,750 young scholars nationwide have benefited from $32 million that the Coca-Cola Scholarship Foundation has provided. Natasha is one of the top students in her senior class at the School of the Future, a small high school in the heart of New York City. There she has received numerous academic awards for her literary talent, but is best known for her young entrepreneurial skills.

When Natasha wanted an after school job when she was 14, she was turned away because she was too young. Undeterred, she started her own business, BliNg-BliNg Discount Fashion Jewelry and sells affordable, trendy accessories at street fairs and college campuses. Her entrepreneurial skills have landed her the 2005 Girls Going Places award, the Merrill Lynch Growing Up CEO award and also a 2007 Horatio Alger Scholarship. She took her skills with jewelry and created The Pearl Project to benefit Dress for Success, and organization that helps women back into the work force. For the Pearl Project, she sold 5,000 necklaces to raise $35,000 for Dress for Success. With the 2007 class of Scholars, The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have awarded $32 -Million-dollars in scholarships.
