MvVO ART will bring the AD ART SHOW 2023 to Powerhouse Arts, Brooklyn, New York from October 15-16, 2023. This contemporary art show bridges the Art World and the Advertising industry, by featuring fine art created by artists working in advertising, design, directly for brands, and in related fields, or who began in the industry.

MvVO ART/AD ART SHOW 2023 will exhibit paintings, sculptures, drawings, photography, and mixed media works at Powerhouse Arts, a leading contemporary Art Fabrication Facility housed in the spectacular former Brooklyn Rapid Transit power plant. Built in 1904 and once affectionately known as “The Batcave.” Powerhouse Arts was redesigned and reimagined by Herzog & de Meuron, the architects of the Tate Modern. The perfect setting to see contemporary art.

The Clio Awards, a longtime supporter and partner of MvVO ART/AD ART SHOW, will present a specialty Clio Award for work selected by the MvVO ART jury of collectors. OUTFRONT Media will feature the Top Ten winners of MvVO ART/AD ART SHOW 2023 on billboards in their top ten media markets, including Times Square for the three winners.

NEW YORK, NY – A significant milestone has been approved for New York City’s early childhood education system. In a 3 to 1 vote, workers of District Council 1707/Local 205 ratified a three-year agreement with the Day Care Council of New York. The agreement will raise the salaries of certified teachers in community-based organizations to the same salary level as teachers in the Department of Education. Community-based teachers have the same education and teaching certification as their colleagues in public school. The agreement becomes effective October 1, 2019 – September 2022 and phases in the salary increases over this three year period.
“This settlement continues the Administration and NYC City Council’s commitment to early childhood education and ensuring we have the best talent in our classrooms so our children have the tools they need to succeed”, stated Andrea Anthony, Executive Director of the Day Care Council of New York.

Lights. Cameras. Fashion. On February 9th, down in the heart of New York’s West Village, the entrance of Industria Superstudio was a bustle of activity. A studio used for over two decades by a cadre of fashion icons, such as Louis Vuitton, Vogue, Vanity Fair and Balenciaga, was hosting a client of a different color: Epson.

Indeed, the star of the show didn’t get the once-over by the girl with the clipboard or walk up the ramp swirling with a projected lightshow. It was the SureColor F-series’ New York Fashion Week debut, after three years of working its way up the ladder of fashion’s hierarchy.

“Since Epson is not a textile brand, we started having runway shows at our printing trade shows. Nobody expected that, and we started to create some noise,” recalled Catalina Frank, product manager for professional imaging at Epson, including the SureColor dye-sublimation product line. “The next step was being part of Fashion Week Brazil, in São Paulo, where we were able to work with the well-known Brazilian designer Lino Villaventura.” Soon Epson was featuring their own runways at textile trade shows, a first for the company, in countries like Ecuador, Colombia and Peru.

And in New York, the crowd may be forgiven for overlooking the printer, even though it was housed in a prime position at the studio’s entrance, due to their excitement to get a closer look at the designs worn by the tall, slender models in the main room. Garments covered in brilliant colors and bold patterns, all printed on the SureColor, literally sat and stood center stage, while guests discussed the fabrics, process and inspiration with the designers.

“It was great to see that so many people were truly interested in the designers’ work, asking about what inspired them and how they liked working with the Epson printer for the project,” Catalina explained. “And to hear the designers talk about how they saw their vision come to life because they used the technology and being able to differentiate themselves from the competition because they can create their own fabrics—that told me we were successful.”

Now that Epson has impressed the fashionistas in the Big Apple, what’s next for this technology? “I think we have established Digital Couture as our own brand at New York Fashion Week,” Catalina answered. “Now we need to focus on looking at ways to support this community in the future, and creating more technology that allows them to express their creativity.

“We’re a global company, so I think we’ve really just gotten started.”

If we do not renovate in the near future, we will lose this building. It is more than a building. It is our show business heritage. The stars who built this Temple paved the way for Jewish actors, dancers, comedians, directors, and producers to be taken seriously and to have careers in New York. If those old walls could talk, we would be screaming with laughter or crying our eyes out with the likes of Sophie Tucker, Edward G. Robinson, The Three Stooges, The Ritz Brothers, Marx Brothers, Milton Berle, Shelly Winters and sooooo many more. This is your history too!!! Please be with us.
