Good News Agency carries positive and constructive news from all over the world relating to voluntary work, the work of the United Nations, non governmental organizations and institutions engaged in improving the quality of life – news that doesn’t “burn out” in the space of a day. It is distributed free of charge through Internet to media and editorial journalists, NGOs, service associations and high schools and colleges around the world.
It is an all-volunteer service of Associazione Culturale dei Triangoli e della Buona Volontà Mondiale, an educational charity associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information It is a supporter of the Global Movement for the Culture of Peace. In the final report of the Decade for a Culture of Peace project (2001-2010) provided to the UN Secretary-General for presentation to the UN General Assembly, Good News Agency is included among the three NGOs that have been playing an active role in the field of Information through Internet.*

Frederick who lives for part of the year in The Netherlands and also has a UK base in Cheshire – has been involved in peace activism since the early 1980’s, and is the Founder and President of Children of the World 2000, a not for profit organisation supported by the International Peace Bureau and UNESCO.

He is patron of several NGOs including the Earth Focus Foundation in Switzerland, the Lady Geertruide School Project in Haiti and the World Peace Gardens Network.

After leaving university the prince joined the family firm, an import-export business, and was also involved in publishing, travel writing and photography. His present work is as a World Peace Emissary and he is a Fellow of the International Institute of Peace Studies & Global Philosophy.

We met with the prince at the UN General Assembly in the Fall of 2002 together with Dame Jane Goodall a UN Messenger for Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall and Roots n’ Shoots initiative.

Citizen groups have succeeded in getting official proclamations declaring declare observances of the International Day of Peace in their States.

Peace Day Philly obtained a beautiful resolution from the Pennsylvania legislature “Recognizing September 21, 2017, as “International Day of Peace; expressing support of its ideals and principles; and encouraging Pennsylvanians to meaninfully engage at this worldwide event.”

Students at South School Holbrook assisted in passing a bill through Massachusetts State government in 2016 declaring 21st September as the International Day of Peace in Massachusetts.

Two Animated Videos Illustrate “Together for Peace”

The United Nations Department of Public Information Education Outreach Section has launched two animated videos to support the Together initiative. See them HERE.

“Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All”

The theme honours the spirit of TOGETHER, a global initiative that promotes respect, safety and dignity for everyone forced to flee their homes in search of a better life. TOGETHER unites the organizations of the United Nations System, the 193 Member States of the United Nations, the private sector, civil society, academic institutions and individual citizens in a global partnership in support of diversity, non-discrimination and acceptance of refugees and migrants. It was initiated during the United Nations Summit for Refugees and Migrants on 19 September 2016.

“In times of insecurity, communities that look different become convenient scapegoats,” said United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. “We must resist cynical efforts to divide communities and portray neighbours as ‘the other’. Discrimination diminishes us all. It prevents people — and societies — from achieving their full potential.” He added, “Together, let us stand up against bigotry and for human rights. Together, let us build bridges. Together, let us transform fear into hope.”

U.N. VIDEO PROJECT FOR YOUTH –
Send your videos now!

The Education Outreach Section of the United Nations Department of Public Information invites young people from around the world between the ages of 15 and 24 to submit 10- to 15-second videos in English on how the Sustainable Development Goals can build peace. When making your videos, think about why ending poverty, addressing climate change, forging equality and ensuring access to education are important to creating a more peaceful world.

The most engaging videos will be featured on the United Nations International Day of Peace YouTube channel. Some will even be shown at an official event at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 16 September.

U.N. DPI will be posting selected clips through 21 September, the International Day of Peace. See inspiring videos RIGHT NOW!

What Are the Global Unity Games?

Join the Global Unity Games coopetition with teams around the world, from September 11, the U.S. National Day of Service (observed in over 150 countries) to September 21, the U.N. International Day of Peace!

The Compassion Games is partnering with a broad coalition of non-profits, businesses, government agencies, universities, and organizations and groups to play together and sustain a 5-year campaign called Tomorrow Together.

As expressed in the Global Unity Games, the goals of Tomorrow Together are to:

1. Ignite young people to express their strong desire for unity and change in the world
2. Build unity, empathy and service among young people of all faiths, races and ethnicities.
3. Establish 9/11 as a catalyst, mobilization and inflection point that continues the legacy of service and supports achieving the vital Sustainable Development Goals set for 2030.

Individuals and teams from all over the world can sign up to play and participate in the upcoming September 2016 Global Unity Games: Tomorrow Together.

At this meeting, we will:

• Set the stage for the 2014 International Day of Peace
• Discuss the theme as it relates to the post-2015 SDG agenda, the Secretary-General’s Rights Up Front Initiative, our ongoing work with Peace Education, and IDP observances in local communities
• Offer the opportunity to join any our amazing and varied Peace Teams working with cities, communications, business, youth, education, sport, spirituality and more
• Invite NGOs to propose youth to present their peace projects at the UN IDP student observance on the morning of Sept. 19 at UN headquarters
• Share promotional campaigns and networks engaged in the IDP, such as the Shift Network’s “Summer of Peace” launch on Friday, June 13 (register for free at http://summit.summerofpeace.net/)
• Hear your ideas and projects!
