The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) hosted the 2018 New York Dinner at the Restaurant Daniel at 60 East 65th Street in New York City and raised $11 million dollars to support the foundation. The highly anticipated Dinner at Daniel was an exquisite culinary experience featuring a special guest performance by Grammy® Award winners Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. The memorable evening welcomed leaders in medicine, top research scientists and distinguished New York City socialites to explore refined European cuisine, world-class wines and the gracious hospitality at Restaurant Daniel in support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

The charitable organization founded by Michael Milken is dedicated to identifying and funding groundbreaking cancer research programs. In true PCF fashion, the 2018 Dinner at Daniel commenced with a series of questions covering topics pertaining to PCF, cancer research and veteran care. Guests participated in the brief icebreaker by raising their hands, and ultimately, learned thought-provoking facts regarding the state of veteran care and those affected by prostate cancer. For instance, a crippling 33% of male U.S. veterans have been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

In their efforts to advance prostate cancer research and improve the lives of patients, the Prostate Cancer Foundation found that American veterans are often underserved. PCF’s partnership with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) aims to create Centers of Excellence throughout the country that will bring state-of-the-art precision oncology care to veterans. Dinner guests graciously contributed in support of the exciting partnership between the PCF and the VA. The Barry & Daria Foundation matched their previous $2.5 million gift, committing, in total, $5 million to support equally both the Manhattan Campus for Precision Oncology Center of Excellence as well as a new campus in Florida. The 2018 New York Dinner was a momentous occasion celebrating the generosity of various supporters, constituencies and stakeholders.

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s impact on cancer research and people’s lives. Throughout the years, PCF has enacted several programs and initiatives to save lives, improve the quality of life for those affected, develop precision disease detection leading to better treatments, bring awareness while encouraging action, cultivate talent, build a global funding engine and create a scientific model for curing cancer.

The Charles Evans Trust has been instrumental in funding groundbreaking discoveries in cancer research with the Annual Charles Evans PCF Pro-Am Tennis Tournament. Jan Haber, Vice President of Events for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, acknowledged Charles Evans trustees Bonnie Pfeifer Evans and Joel Pashcow for their commitment, support and friendship to the organization and being the official lead sponsor since 2011. Champions of the Charles Evans PCF Pro-Am Tennis Tournament in 2017, Larry Leeds and Marie Bernstein were awarded division trophies.

Throughout the 2018 New York Dinner at Daniel Restaurant, notable guests were recognized for their commitment to cancer research and their continued support of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Headlining the evening, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo delivered an incredible performance of their classic rock hits.

PCF’s Board of Directors includes business leaders such as Michael Milken, Lori Milken, Andrew J. Astrachan, James C. Blair PhD, Steven A. Burd, Peter T. Grauer, David H. Koch, The Honorable Earle I. The Django Reinhardt NY Festival launched in 2000 at Birdland is in it’s 18th year. Out of the Festival came the top players, The Django Festival Allstars, who tour 2X a year and always spend a week at their home in the US, BIRDLAND. On the road, to standing ovations, they play top venues -Hollywood Bowl, San Francisco Jazz Festival, Kennedy Center, Montreal Jazz Festival and much more with original music in the style and Django favorites. This past summer at the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Bowl, critic Scott Yanow wrote “highpoint of the entire festival” !

Dad, DORADO SCHMITT, started performing in NY in 2002 when SAMSON was 21 and AMATI 5, all grown up now and together on the Birdland stage for the first time. It’s a family dynasty of enormous talent that comes from the soul of gypsy life where music is God, joined by virtuoso accordionist LUDOVIC BEIER and Grappelli protégé, PIERRE BLANCHARD, on Violin. They will put you on the edge of your seats with joy, smiles, shock you with their hot #’s and break your heart with a ballad, joined by gypsy cousin, Francko Mehrstein, on rhythm guitar and Gino Roman on Bass.

Special guests include the young great saxist Grace Kelly on Nov. 7, 8, and 11 and top swinging clarinetist Ken Peploski on Nov. 9 and 10. For a change of pace, newcomer Chris Smith will be on drums on Nov. 12th.

The music harkens back to the 30’s and 40’s in France to the Hot Club Quintette of Django and Grappelli, romantic days in ‘ol Paris with swing music in the dance halls and streets while campfires lit up the sky on the outskirts of Paris with gypsy life. Music and family was and still is King ! Hot Jazz has more than survived, is vibrant and causing a sensation all over the country.

The musicians will again be on tour as well (see schedule below) and at their NY home, Birdland Nov. 7-12 before returning home to Paris and gypsy community Forbach, France, near Germany. It’s real, it’s romantic, it’s exciting…let your heart lead the way. The Festival was co-founded by Maestro Ettore Stratta.

Daniel founded Lundon Enterprises in 2009, and has spent the last two plus years developing a social network for social good, which launched February 9, 2011. Aside from this aspect of the community, Daniel also wanted to complete his passion to help by somehow raising awareness and money for social causes. His desire was to help raise funding for programs to find cures, to provide aid, and services that help make a difference. So as a result Cure Pals donates 10% of all its paid Platinum memberships and other products to the social cause that the user supports. By doing this, the community is encouraging users of all ages to join the world of philanthropy and to connect with non-profits and organizations that are already making a difference. Individuals can learn more on how they can get involved volunteering or donating. And organizations can connect with a new demographic of supporters, educating people on the needs, challenges, and support that is needed to carry out their mission. Too many websites and organizations just look to adults for support to make a difference. Encouraging our youth to learn and become more proactive for social causes is imperative. After all, they are the future.

The number of opportunities to listen, in person, to a child survivor of the Holocaust describe her tragic experiences and inspire us with her wisdom are passing; therefore, it is with honor and respect that the Animo Classified Employees Association and Green Dot Public Schools welcomes Cantor Esterleon Schwartz to Animo Pat Brown’s campus.

Despite a lifetime of adversity, her relentless faith led her to become a Cantor, a community leader, an Ambassador for Peace, a member of the Board of Directors of the United Nations Association, USA Pacific-Los Angeles Chapter, and a recipient of several humanitarian awards….. Her healing singing voice, poetry and lectures have won over hearts all over the world

Schwartz will have a Question and Answer session for Animo Pat Brown students at the end.

I just wanted to tell you about the St. Pat’s Angels food drive. They have already collected over 1,500 items for Bread of Life in Oceanside! Last month the facility almost ran out of food for those in need, but should now have plenty of food for the Thanksgiving holiday. The St. Pat’s Angels program is really taking off like wildfire and the kids are getting excited about community service.
