A Permanent Wildlife Sculpture Collection installed at Hamad International Airport

03 June 2025

The Seven Art pieces by Gillie and Marc showcase Qatar Airways Group’s commitment to wildlife conservation and protecting endangered species worldwide

Hamad International Airport (DOH) unveils “Wildlife Wonderscapes”, a permanent collection of interactive sculptures by renowned artists Gillie and Marc. The installed bronze art pieces reflect Qatar Airways Group’s dedication to wildlife conservation and highlight the importance of protecting endangered species.

Originally part of a globally recognized series, the artwork has been adapted for Hamad International Airport with distinct Qatari elements, including native species. The sculptures unite endangered animals, delivering a message of coexistence, reconnecting with nature, and a hope for a safer future for wildlife.

Hamad Ali Al-Khater, Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport, said:

“Airports are places of movement, connection and reflection. The Wildlife Wonderscapes sculptures by renowned artists Gillie and Marc have been chosen to be part of our terminal’s permanent art collection for their powerful message of conservation. Wildlife Wonderscapes encourages engagement with our passengers making every journey memorable and greatly adds to the diverse iconic art curated across Hamad International Airport.”

Gillie and Marc said:

“We are incredibly honored to unveil our largest permanent wildlife sculpture exhibition at Hamad International Airport. It’s our dream to inspire millions of travellers to fall in love with the wild and to understand the urgent need to protect it. Through art, we hope to give a voice to the voiceless and remind the world that every species matters.”

The ORCHARD, an indoor tropical garden at the heart of the terminal, was chosen as a key location for the sculptures. Originally brought to life through greenery, it now evolves with the introduction of animal sculptures, reinforcing the message that nature and wildlife are interconnected and must be protected.

This installation reflects the Group’s ongoing commitment to wildlife conservation that is represented through many of its business functions. Qatar Airways Cargo’s WeQare: Rewild the Planet initiative strives to restore wildlife to their natural habitats and contributes to ensuring biodiversity for future generations. Qatar Airways’ partnership with United for Wildlife as its Official Airline Partner focuses on curbing illegal wildlife trade. The Group enforces strict policies, staff trainings, and awareness campaigns for every stage of the passenger journey.

As the first airline in the Middle East independently certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for its anti-trafficking initiatives, Qatar Airways remains committed to prioritizing wildlife protection and promoting conservation efforts.

Among the exhibition highlights is a 3.5m x 10.5m “Wild Table of Love in Doha”, a which is made of six tonnes of bronze featuring a scene of native and endangered animals gathered around one table – a symbol of shared space and coexistence. Other works include a 10m sculpture named “They Were on Wild Ride in Doha”, and three series of the “Falcon with Glove”, which pays tribute to Qatar’s falconry heritage.

Passengers are encouraged to engage with the artworks and share their experience by using #BeTheWildHIA helping amplify the message of wildlife conservation as part of the global efforts to protect the planet.

Let’s be real: our world is trashed. The average American produces 4.9 pounds of trash per day, which reaches nearly 1,800 pounds of trash per person every year.1 Far too much of this trash ends up in our natural environment.

Trash that isn’t disposed of properly carries toxic chemicals that contaminate waterways, harm wildlife, and put human health at risk.2 But, together, we can help clean it up.

EARTHDAY‍.ORG launched The Great Global Cleanup six years ago to fight for a world where cleanups are no longer necessary. We are still working towards this goal, highlighting the need for policies that hold polluters accountable, focusing on the detrimental effects of plastic production, and protecting human health.

You can be part of the effort by joining a cleanup this spring. Find one near you on our map, or organize and register your own.

Less than 10% of our plastic is actually recycled, the rest incinerated, sent to landfills, or ending up in other environments.3 For this reason, and the harmful effects plastic production has on human health, EARTHDAY‍.ORG is demanding a 60% reduction in plastic production by 2040. In the meantime, we are making an effort to clean up all the plastic waste that hasn’t been disposed of properly.

We are getting closer to our goals every day because of people like you. Find a cleanup near you, or register your own to make our planet a better place to live.

March 18th is Global Recycling Day, a day meant to celebrate the role of recycling in protecting our planet. But let’s be clear: plastic recycling has never lived up to its promises.

For decades, the petrochemical industry has pushed the lie that plastic can be endlessly recycled, keeping us locked in a cycle of overconsumption. But globally, less than 9% of all plastic has been recycled.1 The rest? It’s burned, thrown in landfills, or pollutes our oceans, breaking down into microplastics that infiltrate our food, water, and bodies.

While we’ve been told that tossing plastic into the blue bin was enough, corporations have ramped up plastic production – global plastic waste is set to TRIPLE by 2060.2 Recycling was never the solution; it was the distraction.

The real solution? Cutting plastic production at the source. That’s why we urge you to sign our petition calling on world leaders to commit to a binding and effective Global Plastics Treaty.

ADD YOUR NAME

The Global Plastics Treaty is a chance for world leaders to put people and the planet above an industry harming us all. Modeled after the successful Montreal Protocol, it can end plastic pollution, protect human health, and create a waste-free future.3 We cannot let governments squander this moment! Action is needed now.

Add your name to the 30,000 others who refuse to accept the plastic industry’s lies. Every signature builds the momentum we need to push world leaders to take real action.

For action,

World Environment Day (WED) occurs on the 5th of June every year, and is the United Nation’s principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. WED has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, WED has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.

World Environment Day [WED] was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 on the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, resulting from discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment. Two years later, in 1974 the first WED was held with the theme “Only One Earth”. Even though WED celebration have been held annually since 1974, in 1987 the idea for rotating the center of these activities through selecting different host countries began.

For almost five decades, World Environment Day has been raising awareness, supporting action, and driving change. Here is a timeline of key accomplishments in WEDs’ history:

The theme for 2018 is “Beat Plastic Pollution”. The host nation is India. The theme for the World Environment Day 2018, “Beat Plastic Pollution”. By choosing this Theme, it is aimed that people may strive to changes in their everyday lives to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution. People should be free from the over-reliace on single-use or disposables, as they have severe environmental consequences. We should liberate our natural places, our wildlife – and our own health from plastics.

HMC International LLC [editar]

translation…

Union Products In Honor o Don Featherstone who just went to heaven. Reverend Paul
The plastic pink flamingo was designed in 1957 by Don Featherstone while working for Union Products, and has become an icon of pop culture,[1] that won him the Ig Nobel Prize for Art in 1996. It has even spawned a lawn greeting industry where flocks of pink flamingos are installed on a victim’s lawn in the dark of night. After the release of John Waters’s 1972 movie Pink Flamingos,[2] plastic flamingos came to be the stereotypical example of lawn kitsch.[1]

Many imitation products have found their way onto front lawns and store shelves since then; those “official” pink flamingos made by Union Products from 1987 (the 30th anniversary of the plastic flamingo) until 2001 can be identified by the signature of Don Featherstone located on the rear underside. These official flamingos were sold in pairs, with one standing upright and the other with its head low to the ground, “feeding”. Sometime after Featherstone’s retirement in 2000, Union Products began producing birds without the signature. In December 2001, the Annals of Improbable Research (bestowers of the Ig Nobel prize) teamed up with the Museum of Bad Art to protest this omission in the form of a boycott.[3] Union Products, of Leominster, Massachusetts, stopped production of pink flamingos on November 1, 2006.

HMC International LLC[edit]
However, HMC International LLC, a subsidiary of Faster-Form Corporation, purchased the copyright and plastic molds of Featherstone’s original plastic flamingos in 2007. HMC sub-contracted production of the flamingos to Cado Manufacturing, Inc., a blow-molder located in Fitchburg, Massachusetts who specialized in this type of production.[4] In 2010, Cado Manufacturing purchased the copyrights and the entire Union Products product line, including the pink flamingo, from HMC. Cado continues to manufacture the Union Products line, and production of the pink flamingo has increased in recent time.

Reveals Dozens of New Do-It-Yourself Products
DIY Expansion Includes New Cobranded Products with Maker Media
FORT WORTH, Texas, May 16, 2013 — Just in time for Maker Faire Bay Area, RadioShack announced a major partnership expansion with Maker Media, the creators of MAKE Magazine, Makezine.com, and Maker Faire, to better serve the DIY community. Maker Media and RadioShack will be teaming up to collaborate on an expansive DIY product lineup, exclusively carried at RadioShack and Maker Shed, including kits, robotics and tools.
“DIY is part of RadioShack’s DNA,” said Dawn Callahan, vice president of merchandising, responsible for the DIY product category at RadioShack. “We’re grateful to be part of a wonderfully loyal community of makers, and we listened when they told us how we can help bring their ideas to life. We’re excited to deliver on that feedback with an expanded assortment, including cobranded products with the smart folks at Maker Media, as well as other products on makers’ wish lists.”
“Adding to the popular Make line of kits, like ‘Getting Started with Arduino’ the new cobranded product lineup from Maker Media and RadioShack combine Maker Media’s strength in cultivating and growing the maker movement with RadioShack’s strong retail footprint and DIY heritage,” said Dale Dougherty, founder and CEO of Maker Media. “Our new cobranded products are designed to give makers a path to making while they continue to develop their skills and push the limits of their creativity.”
The new cobranded product lineup will be available in-store and online exclusively at RadioShack later this year. In addition, MAKE Magazine will join the MAKE book lineup and will be available in stores this fall. RadioShack has an exciting lineup of additional DIY products that are available now, and with more to come throughout the summer and fall.
Discovering RadioShack’s DIY Resources
RadioShack regularly surveys DIY customers to refine its product offering. As a result, the company added Arduino microcontrollers as well as hundreds of new parts and tools to its stores and website in 2012. Similarly, the newly announced products deliver on things makers told the company they desired most from their neighborhood DIY resource, including RadioShack-branded:
• ColdHeat Soldering Tool, available now
• Expanded assortment of Light-Emitting Diodes (LED’s), available now
• New collection of Youth Hobby Kits focused on building your own RC and robotics, available now
• Electroluminescent (EL) Wire, Tape and Flex Strip LED’s, available in the summer
• U Mold moldable plastic, available in August in two sizes
• New line of Mini PC Microcontrollers that have video and Wi-Fi capabilities, available in the summer
In addition, RadioShack will be re-launching XMODS, which are DIY remote control car or truck kits that customers can build, tune, and race, which will be available this fall.

Alexandria, VA The International Bottled Water Associations (IBWA) consumer website www.bottledwatermatters.com has launched its twentieth YouTube video, Every Bottle Counts, a humorous and informative look at how people recycle when they are out and about in public places. A teenaged consumer explores how, when and where to recycle her empty PET plastic bottled water containers as she moves through her busy day away from home.

In this short video, many U.S. communities from coast to coast that currently have public recycling programs in place are cited. Each of these communities listed report that public space recycling programs either make money or save money for their community treasuries as they make it easier for people to fully recycle unwanted bottles, cans and containers while away from home.

In this lighthearted look at recycling in public places, a consumer finds herself looking for places to properly dispose of her empties. When there is no place in public to recycle, shes quick to show how she saves the empty containers until shes home, said Tom Lauria, IBWA Vice President of Communications. At no time does she simply throw her empty containers away in regular trash receptacles. As title explains, Every Bottle Counts when it comes to thoughtful recycling.

IBWA and Bottled Water Matters decided to produce this video because we all have a role to play in expanding, and benefiting from, more public space recycling, Mr. Lauria said. Consumers should know they have the ability to make public recycling bins happen in their communities and that their cities and towns can benefit financially from making the effort to capture and recycle PET plastic, glass, aluminum and other recyclable materials.

Besides YouTube, the video will be available on the IBWA website (www.bottledwater.org), the Bottled Water Matters website (www.bottledwatermatters.com) and on the Earth911 recycling mega-site. (www.earth911.com) in the IBWA-sponsored section on plastic bottle recycling.

The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) is the authoritative source of information about all types of bottled waters. Founded in 1958, IBWA’s membership includes U.S. and international bottlers, distributors and suppliers. IBWA is committed to working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which regulates bottled water as a packaged food product, and state governments to set stringent standards for safe, high quality bottled water products. In addition to FDA and state regulations, the Association requires member bottlers to adhere to the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice, which mandates additional standards and practices that in some cases are more stringent than federal and state regulations. A key feature of the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice is an annual plant inspection by an independent, third party organization. Consumers can contact IBWA at 1-800-WATER-11 or log onto IBWA’s web site (www.bottledwater.org) for more information about bottled water and a list of members’ brands.
