Realscreen is honoring the late Dr. Jane Goodall during the Realscreen Awards ceremony set for February 3, during the 2026 Realscreen Summit.

The world-renowned ethologist, conservationist, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace is being celebrated with the Realscreen Action Award, which recognizes individuals whose work within the unscripted and non-fiction content sector has inspired meaningful social impact and driven positive change in the industry and beyond. Last year’s recipient of the Action Award was acclaimed filmmaker Dawn Porter.

Dr. Goodall’s work in the field as a pre-eminent scientist and animal behavior expert, and as a global voice for community-centered conservation and biodiversity protection, has been the focal point of scores of documentary films and series, dating back to 1965’s Miss Goodall and the Wild Chimpanzees, narrated by Orson Welles for National Geographic, to Brett Morgen’s riveting 2017 documentary Jane, also for Nat Geo. Through Jane Goodall Productions, she and her team have been in production and development on many upcoming projects, including Matriarch, a collaboration with BBC Studios, PBS and the WNET Group. Her passing in October of this year led to an outpouring of love from around the world, spanning world leaders, noted celebrities and inspired citizens — all of whom have been touched by her legacy.

“Over the span of decades, Jane Goodall’s name has been synonymous with the ideas of conservation, care for the animal kingdom and curiosity, and her presence and creative leadership in more than 40 documentaries and films, reflecting the important work of the Jane Goodall Institute, has cemented that status,” said Barry Walsh, content director and editor-in-chief for Realscreen. “We are honored to celebrate her lifetime of contribution — not only to the world of wildlife documentary, but to our understanding of the world around us — with our Action Award.”

Accepting the award on Dr. Goodall’s behalf will be her longtime film collaborator and the Jane Goodall Institute’s wildlife cinematographer, Bill Wallauer.

Established in 2010, the Realscreen Awards, held annually during the Realscreen Summit, have become a benchmark for excellence in non-fiction and unscripted content, celebrating the most innovative and impactful work from around the globe.

Jane Turton, CEO of All3Media, will also be inducted into the Realscreen Hall of Fame, and will take part in a keynote conversation at the Summit, bringing her unique perspective on the evolving global content industry.

Polo has been played for thousands of years and the modern game is an exhilarating thrill ride bringing out the best of man (or woman) and horse. Each match showcases eight players galloping on horseback across a 300-yard field at speeds of up to 35MPH.

The club is home to the legendary White Birch polo team, one of the most successful in history, having won the most high-goal polo tournaments of any team over the course of the past 25 years, including the US Open Polo Championship in 2005. Some of the world’s best players have played at Greenwich Polo Club, including Mariano Aguerre, Facundo Pieres, Hilario Ulloa, Nacho Figueras and many others. Each Spring these players descend on Greenwich with their strings of champion horses to compete for one of polo’s most prestigious cups.

Each Sunday match is attended by more than 2,000 spectators flocking from New York City, Fairfield and Westchester counties, to witness the highest caliber of polo while enjoying an afternoon with friends and family. Greenwich Polo Club has also hosted many dignitaries and celebrities and in 2013 Prince Harry chose Greenwich Polo Club to host the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup. The prestigious match raised funds for the Sentebale charity founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in memory of their mothers to raise funds for Lesotho’s most vulnerable children.

White Birch Championships
White Birch, one of the most successful polo teams in history, captured its first US Open Polo Championship in 2005. It was their 31st title at the 26 goal level or higher. White Birch won all three 26 goal tournaments during the 2005 season in Palm Beach. In the 1990’s White Birch dominated every major tournament at Palm Beach Polo Club in Florida. The White Birch Polo Team has won more high goal polo tournaments than any other single team in the past 25 years.

In 1979, Mr. Brant founded the White Birch Polo Team, which soon earned a reputation as a formidable opponent. Mr. Brant worked to develop a superior string of horses and sought to bring on board the most talented players—continually pushing the level of the game and elevating professional polo worldwide. With his work with Greenwich Polo Club and the White Birch polo team, Mr. Brant has arguably done more than any other Patron to mentor and promote young talent. The White Birch polo team has gained a global reputation for the strength of its organization and distinguished record of successful matches. By the time White Birch won its first U.S. Polo Championship in 2005, the team had already amassed an impressive record. To date, White Birch has won 31 championships/tournaments at the 26-goal level or above. Mr. Brant’s own performance on the team led to his becoming one of the top-ranked amateur polo players in the world. In the ten years between 1979 and 1989, he rose to a 7-goal handicap—at the time the highest in the world of amateur polo.

The revolutionary new brand, Net Generation, will provide American tennis with one unified youth brand for children to get into the sport, making it easier for children and their parents to learn about tennis and get into the game in schools, parks and tennis clubs across the country.

The movement embraces all aspects of youth play for kids ages 5-18. The official Net Generation launch will take place at Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day on Aug. 26.

“Net Generation is a bold approach to empower kids to play the game while elevating and setting new standards on how we deliver and engage children in our sport,” said Craig Morris, General Manager, USTA Community Tennis and Youth Tennis. “These efforts will make a lasting impact to help drive youth participation throughout the country. There is no bigger and better stage than the US Open to launch the brand.”

The objective of Net Generation is to provide a safe connection to the sport, as well as a platform to celebrate individuality and self-expression. To ensure a safe environment, all Net Generation providers – including coaches, teachers, players and volunteers – must first go through a Safe Play Program, which involves a three-step process, including a background check, by registering on NetGeneration.com.

With the USTA’s focus on childhood safety, this system will be the first of its kind in the sports landscape to require all providers to submit to a comprehensive screening and education program.

“It is essential to implement the best infrastructure and environment for the current and future generation of kids,” said Katrina Adams, USTA Chairman of the Board, CEO and President. “Net Generation will help further our commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles and bringing more children into the game by reaching kids and parents in a dynamic and easier way than ever before.”

In addition to the official launch at Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day Powered by Net Generation, the brand will have a significant presence leading up to and at this years’ US Open.

Net Generation has been integrated at US Open Series events throughout the summer, including at kids’ days, high school days, family days and festivals to encourage more kids and families to join the sport.

Net Generation will have a dedicated kids’ zone at the US Open Experience at the Seaport District NYC on Aug. 24-25, and a Net Generation Arcade near the Grandstand at the US Open aims to reinvent the retro classic 80s video arcade games with a tennis twist.

Also at the US Open, kids will receive their own Wildcard Activity Book that will serve as every child’s guide to Net Generation, including a roadmap, activities and pages for autographs, and the Fan Court at the US Open American Express Fan Experience in the Chase Center will include on-court activities, clinics and games.

In addition, the USTA will enlist 32 social media brand influencers, “Netset Ambassadors.” who are ages 5-18 with a strong social media presence, to showcase Net Generation through their views. The ambassadors will create content promoting the brand to their social media followings.

In addition to serving as Netset Ambassadors, three lucky influencers have been selected to serve as “kidcasters” who will give followers a behind-the-scenes look at the US Open.

The USTA has a longstanding commitment to encouraging healthy and active lifestyles among children. Over the last decade, youth tennis has brought hundreds of thousands of kids into the sport by using shorter courts, lower-bouncing balls and lighter racquets to allow them to play more quickly and easily.

To further evolve these efforts, the USTA will be working closely with schools and school districts by providing equipment, trainings and resources for teachers. The USTA has developed a new schools tennis curriculum and will encourage schools to have a community partner to help kids find a tennis facility to play after school in partnership with SHAPE America.

Furthermore, Net Generation will activate throughout all competitive levels including youth tennis, team tennis and junior competition. By setting new standards and collaborating with programs across the board, these efforts will help unite the tennis industry by sharing the same mission to get more kids playing tennis.

I recently had the great pleasure of playing a dream role of mine Billy Bigelow in The St.Jean’s Players production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel. There is something really special about a talented group of people coming together not for money or notoriety but for love of musical theater. We may not have had the resources to put on a Broadway caliber show but we did manage to move some people.

Carousel is considered by many to be one of the greatest musicals ever written – Classic musical theater that is far from flawless, but still works and is relevant on so many levels.

Carousel hits all the notes of musical theater grandeur with beautiful music and spectacular dances and a harkening back to a different time. Carousel challenges it’s audience to release any expectations for a perfect leading man and find an understanding empathy for it’s tragically flawed protagonist even as he continues to make mistake after mistake (unforgivable mistakes like hitting his wife). It’s painful at times, but in the end we are all just human beings learning to accept responsibility for the consequences of our existence.

Marcello Padilla is from Santa Monica, CA and is a graduate of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the Musical Theatre Conservatory at New York Film Academy. He is a certified yoga teacher and has co-written a new musical Venice Beach with the hopes of work shopping it in the near future.
