His footballing prowess soon brought him to the attention of the Station Manager and Saville was selected for The Royal Air Force Football Team which played matches against amateur and semi-professional German teams throughout the region. A great English Patriot, Saville said of his experience in the Air Force, “It was two of the happiest years of my life.”
When he left the RAF, Saville joined the firm of Esbee Gold, a manufacturer of Woman’s Fashions. He serviced retail and wholesale customers the length and breadth of Great Britain. At the same time he was offered a professional trial at Tottenham Hotspur but never went and joined the senior amateur football club Wingate FC, where for 10 years he topped the scoring ranks averaging 20-30 goals a season. The Great Britain selectors duly noted his talent and he was selected for the 1961 Maccabiah Games in Israel. He was top scorer during the tournament and Britain won its only ever Gold Medal with Saville scoring both goals against the host nation in a 2-1 victory in Haifa. The winning goal against Israel was probably the strangest one he ever scored. The ball was headed out of the box from a corner and as it bounced he back-heeled it hard on the half-volley from 20 yards out and it flew past the keeper into the top corner of the net. He won silver at the 1965 Maccabiah Games. Saville scored over 350 goals during his playing career.
Later in the 1960s he started his own fashion business in Commercial Road and for over 30 years brought his own creative innovations to the world of fashion. He married his beloved wife Sheila in 1966 just a few weeks before England won the World Cup and they were married for 53 years. After retiring from football he took up squash and made it to the final of the All-London Maccabi Open Championship. He later took up tennis and represented Great Britain Seniors in Spain and at the 1997 Maccabiah.
Into his eighties he was still super fit, swimming 80-100 lengths every day. Saville was respected and held in the highest esteem in the fashion industry and in the football world and by all those fortunate enough to have encountered this wonderful, kind, compassionate man. He never forgot his humble beginnings in East London. In December 2019 he enjoyed one of his proudest moments, accompanying his wife of 53 years Sheila and daughter in law Mary to Buckingham Palace to watch his son Jason’s MBE investiture by Prince William, for services to Football Education and Youth with Disabilities. When my parents were faced with life and death situations, they met the challenges, endured, and ultimately prevailed with virtues that shall bring the joy of human triumph into our lives for all time.
If my parents, Bronislawa and Andrew Fisch could render a greater service today, it is for the love of life not to vanish like the piles of body dust scattered namelessly in the wind. For this alone, we must never allow the presented remnants of war to serve as the buried fabric of truth.

I, for one, know that I am so lucky to be alive. And while the faint light of hope faded for so many, my family received abundant blessings all while witnessing death and experiencing life in so many ways. We were able to regain our moral consciousness through a nightmare of enslavement and torture from Eastern Poland to Western Poland, beginning in 1939 and ending in 1945. Millions of people risked life and limb for others and suffered in enumerable ways under Soviet Communists/Nazi Germany. Millions of others never lost their essence, nor was their character or their resolve to do the right thing altered at any time; the light of their values was so endowed in the innermost depth of their souls.

We lived to tell the whole story of WWII in a different way that brings back a love of life from the crystalline silence of the truth of the time; knowing full well that not one person left the field of war unaltered and without a footprint of suffering on their soul. Whenever I read a reference to WWII, I can’t help but be reminded of all those who made sacrifices to save our lives and the brave soldiers who liberated my family. I am and will always be profoundly grateful.

As author and publisher, I wish for the younger generation to benefit from memories of a past and from those who have witnessed evil in all its ways of life, but faced it with a clear mind and noble courage. Historians, humanists and ethnologists still have work to do to tell the whole story of the 20th century’s inhumanity to humanity and to accurately and properly represent history the way it really was while never forgetting those who perished namelessly in the wind and those who will only answer to God.

Now we move in silence to the Prologue of this book. That spot in the forest was not only a temporary sanctuary of life, but cultivated the quiet dignity of its peace and virtues, to be trusted with empathy on all sides of war when there were great galling sorrows all around us.

Then we all followed in this world with unassuming steps, an ordinary family so far out of reach that were written off the map of the world and refused to be conquered. For any person with a conscience and integrity would recognize the events as it relates to the whole. We all should be at peace knowing that the mothers and fathers, and their love of life, saved their children from the brink of extinction.

And from the profound depths of the soul, my mother has not taken her memoir to her grave. She was/is an amazing woman, and along with Andrew, serves as an inspiration for us all. So as we closed this soliloquy’s journey of indomitable spirit, our hearts sang and our souls danced as we were welcomed to our new home in this great new land and way of life. From a Displaced Person’s camp in Western Germany, the Fisch family was the first family to arrive on the shores of New York State to settle in Syracuse, New York.

Along the way, we mended from the physical damages and moved forward in all of our blessings to date. All Love Comes Home – Redemptive Journey of the Heart (Book Two), is a window into the joy of human triumph along with a deeper understanding of the worst and most inhumane times of the 20th Century. And for our family, it offered an opportunity to report the whole story of what truly happened in history’s greatest struggle for a free mind and soul. We were blessed with my mother’s and father’s life values and the fact that we had a chance to live them out.

Now, I look back through the avenue of life to the private life of mother’s 1984 lifeline and to its solemn retrospection of public and private, and in her own way expressed the admiration and regrets for the virtues gained and lost from the experiences of life and forever remained the remnants of a free mind and soul. I can’t help but wonder how we survived at all. Gratitude is truly good for the soul and can make the seemingly impossible – possible.
