The Yongzheng era (1722–1735) was not an age of display, but of restraint. Power turned inward, sharpness softened into gentleness. In only thirteen years, it achieved a rare concentration of political efficiency, economic stability, and cultural refinement. It was a peak moment when civilization chose elegance over dominance.

Politically, governance was streamlined and centralized.

Economically, the treasury was restored, paving the way for the prosperity of the Qianlong era.

Culturally, imperial kilns, enamel painting, and court aesthetics reached an extreme of precision and restraint.

History is clear: only a prosperous civilization can produce great art and technology.

Yongzheng aesthetics were a national project of condensed civilization, completed in just thirteen luminous years.

In New York, I first saw a coral-red famille-rose enamel bowl from the Yongzheng imperial kilns. It was so beautiful it almost took my breath away. This was not beauty “painted” onto porcelain; it was beauty forged in fire, born through extreme heat and mastery.

The bowl felt alive.

Pink and violet held a shy gaze.

Gold carried a quiet inner light.

The petals seemed to breathe, ready to drift away with time.

I asked the collector why it looked so new.

He said: true value lies not only in age, but in craftsmanship, glaze, body, reign mark, and preservation. An old object that appears new is a treasure. For masters, its perfect Yongzheng reign mark alone confirms its imperial origin. It stands as the highest example of the saying:

“For Ming, look to Chenghua; for Qing, look to Yongzheng.”

None of us could afford such a bowl. But love always comes before price.

We may be newly free from poverty, yet we are rich in awe.

This bowl returned me to Dream of the Red Chamber.

Like the Twelve Beauties, it transformed object into life, collectible into destiny.

It reminded me that true beauty is fragile, gentle, and dignified. It knows life will pass, yet still chooses perfection.

This is the soul of Yongzheng enamel:

civilization refined into tenderness.

Red is the color of empire.

Flowers are its heartbeat.

Many look at antiques and see only price, authenticity, and provenance.

I saw life—and the long journey that life took to arrive before me.

On January 22, at the World Speakers Series in Trump Tower, collector Jeff Ye brought ancient civilization into dialogue with the present.

He said:

“True antiques find their owners. Owners do not find them.”

And:

“Let the object speak for itself.”

From relics to lost imperial kilns, from jade to porcelain, his presentation showed that civilization is not history—it is a living conversation across time.

First, Yongzheng porcelain was a national aesthetic project. Choosing “flowers” to represent the empire was a choice of compassion, femininity, and quiet strength. It was a civilization expressing power through tenderness.

Second, China’s modern engineering achievements are not sudden miracles. They are the awakening of an ancient engineering civilization gene.

This bowl, born of fire centuries ago, already carried that spirit.

The Middle East uses oil to build the height of cities.

China uses ancient artifacts to preserve the depth of time.

Let cities tell their own stories.

Let wealth find its true source.

Let civilization travel again.

Holding this bowl is like holding a love letter from the Yongzheng era to the world:

Are Surging Gold Prices a Sign of Coming Inflation?

Six-month on the Covid crisis continues with political unrest on the side, with that the stock hasn’t crashed and gold is reaching record highs in the $2,000 per ounce range. Millions are unemployed and receiving government assistance as large sectors of the retail, restaurant and entertainment industry lay idle, waiting for the lockdown to end. Cities fraught with violent riots under the cover of political protests are seeing businesses close and highly-productive citizens fleeing: New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis are all seeing this trend accelerate. During it all how are the fundamentals of the economy reacting?

An upswing in gold prices is viewed traditionally as investors fleeing stocks in fear of inflation, however, those bets have often proven wrong in the past and may well be mistaken again. Inflation generally accompanies an overheating economy, not one that is slowing down. Gold prices also signal fear of a stock market collapse, but many sectors of the economy are proving resilient and one aspect of previous downtowns must be taken into consideration: an extremely powerful Internet infrastructure that allows for many businesses to continue operating remotely or providing services and selling products online. Compared with the downturn in 2008, the speed and power of Internet connections has increased 100 times in terms of backbone strength.

Such a trend has allowed millions of workers, teachers and school children tore main productive despite the lockdown, thus providing an economic cushion. Cities with safe environments will welcome millions of transplants fleeing lockdown and political unrest, causing some to cities to suffer a slow, painful decay while others prosper mightily. When this ends, a coiled spring of economic growth will result.

Q & A:

1. Will gold continue to rise and along with it the rate of inflation?

A: Gold has been going up the last few months in response to real fear of economic collapse, however, this is a knee jerk reaction as uncertainty grips everyone. Investors rushing for the exits may have missed many opportunities as many sectors of the stock market have proved sturdy and growing. But one question can’t be answered; when will the lockdowns end? Restaurants and real estate are bleeding out everyday they are not allowed to operate.

2. Is gold a true safe haven?

A: It depends on the form of your investment; are you taking the actual gold bullion or gold futures, big difference. Having gold bars in your safe is all nice and fine, but if the economy recovers and the fear of inflation dissipates then the price of gold, as it always does, will retreat along with other precious metals.

3. We are looking a fall season unlike any ever experienced in the lives of everyone, what can government leaders do now?

A: Well for one thing they should even talk about raising taxes, that would cripple an economy that is fighting to stay afloat. All one hears from the Democrats are further plans for sucking up the wealth of private citizens, whether if it higher personal income, capital gains taxes of abolishing 401k style retirement plans. These types of actions would be devastating.

4. What are the worst political leaders doing right now?

A: Cities and states are in a double bind, places like California, Illinois and New York are crippling the economy with lockdown policies and allowing violence to flourish. Asking citizens to endure both sides of this equation will only result in total disaster. You will get a shrinking economic base and empty cities run by criminals.

5. Even with all the uncertainty, the stock market has held up rather well?

Absolutely, I believe many smart investors know this economy was booming and is now like a coiled spring ready to blast forward. When the government gets out of the way it blast off and the gold investors will be left out in the cold. In our modern world capital flows rapidly and the Internet backbone allows for versatility.

Mexican, German and US economies see record drops in GDP. Both the US and German economies shrank 10% in the last quarter, while Mexico contracted by 17%. The US economy is now 33% lower than the same time last year.

More than one million Chileans seek to withdraw pensions amid pandemic. More than one million Chileans have asked to withdraw a portion of their pension funds to tap into retirement savings to buffer the economic impacts of COVID-19.

SOCIAL
Chilean dogs sniff out COVID-19 in early stages. Chilean police are training sniffer dogs to detect the coronavirus in people’s sweat at an early stage, after a similar trial in the UK showed encouraging results.

Google will keep 200,000 employees in home offices until July 2021. This makes the search engine giant the first large US company to adopt such an extended schedule in view of the coronavirus pandemic. This sets a precedent and will likely put pressure on other tech companies.

New Japanese batteries will produce up to 10 times more energy. Japanese startup 3Dom says its lithium metal battery can currently produce twice the amount of energy than a Li-ion power source of similar weight, with advances expected in the technology in the near future.

A billion surveillance cameras will be in operation worldwide next year. China hosts 18 of the 20 most camera-controlled cities in the world. London is in 3rd place with 67.4 cameras per thousand citizens, while Hyderabad in India is in 16th place with 29.9 cameras per thousand citizens.

POLITICS
Serbian purchase of missile defense system shows ties deepening with China. Serbia has bought a new generation of medium-range, radar-guided surface-to-air missiles from China in a new sign of deepening cooperation between Beijing and Belgrade.

India freezes out Chinese companies from government bidding. Restrictions on Chinese companies seeking to supply goods or services to the government have been tighten in retaliation against Beijing over the border conflict in the Himalayas.

US Democrats on House antitrust panel scored biggest ‘Big Tech’ donations, but Republicans do well too. The CEO’s of Amazon, Facebook and Google testified before the US House committee dedicated to antitrust. They addressed lawmakers to whom their companies and employees have given donations in this election cycle. Total lobbying expenses for the last quarter by Amazon were $4.4 million.

Iran looks to partner with China, as the West steps back. The proposed 25-year cooperation deal between Iran and China is partly a result of Tehran’s disappointment at the EU’s failure to stand up to the United States.

Pakistani separatist groups unite to target China’s Belt and Road. The alliance is aimed at attacking Chinese interests in a development likely to increase security costs for Belt and Road Initiative projects in Pakistan.

CONFLICT
India has become the world’s biggest arms importer. With the delivery of the first batch of French Fighter Jets, India is upgrading its military. The forward posture adopted by the Indian Air Force is key to India’s defense capabilities.

Baghdad in turmoil after protesters killed. Anti-government protesters have taken to the streets of Iraq’s capital and other cities following the funerals of two people killed during clashes with security forces the night before. The Prime Minister, who condemned the act, demanded explanations within 72 hours.

Mexico arrests ‘El Marro’, who is blamed for a surge in drug violence. The Mexican Army and state security forces have captured the notorious drug gang leader blamed for fanning a surge in violence that has severely tested the government of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

DEVELOPMENT
9.6 million Sudanese are facing famine. A quarter of the population of Sudan is facing severe food shortages due to escalating food prices. This is the highest in the country’s recent history.

COVID-19 disrupting vaccination programmes. 80 million children under the age of one are unprotected from diseases. The WHO and other institutions have found that COVID-19 has disrupted the vaccinations in at least 68 countries.

Russia preparing mass vaccination against coronavirus for October. Russia’s health minister is preparing a mass vaccination campaign against COVID-19 for October, local news agencies reported, after a vaccine completed clinical trials.
