350 years is a great reason to celebrate!

The festivities marking the 350th anniversary of the Notre-Dame de Québec parish will begin on December 8, 2013, with the opening of the Holy Door. This will only be the seventh time such a religious event is held in the world, and the first time outside Europe. A number of activities are planned for the year-long program.Notre-Dame de Québec

The largest cultural construction site in Québec

On September 5, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec officially launched the largest cultural construction project in the province: the construction of the Pierre Lassonde Pavilion! The design for this new museum pavilion was selected during the first international architecture competition held in Québec City. Construction should be completed by 2015.

Opening of the long house in Wendake

The Huron-Wendat Nation the official launch for the Nation’s long house during the 253rd anniversary celebrations marking the signing of the Huron-British Treaty. Designed to accommodate guided tours, the Wendat people’s long house is more than a traditional dwelling. The tourist offer in Wendake now includes a number of activities at the long house site, such as the building of a birch-bark canoe by a Huron-Wendat craftsman or listening to Wendat myths and legends by a storyteller while enjoying Labrador tea and homemade bannock by a campfire. Visitors can also spend the night in the long house under the watchful eye of the keeper of the three fires. The cost of the project is estimated at $350,000.

2014 Freestyle Snowboard Jamboree

After hosting the Snowboard FIS World Cup in January 2013, the Snowboard Jamboree sponsored by Mazda and Vidéotron will be back from January 14 to 19, 2014, at different venues in Québec City and Stoneham. Only freestyle FIS World Cup events are on the program: big air sponsored by Vidéotron, half-pipe events by Mazda and slopestyle by S3. This major change resulted in the Snowboard Jamboree being sanctioned by both the five-star World Snowboard Tour (WST) and the FIS (International Ski Federation). The athletes will now be able to accumulate points for two different competitive circuits simultaneously.

Outdoor winter activities with Vélo Passe-Sport plein air

This winter, you can take a brisk biking tour along the Samuel De Champlain Boardwalk! In addition to organizing the tours, Passe-Sport plein air provides specially adapted bicycles, ski goggles, ski helmets, gloves and boots. At the end of the tour, you can enjoy some hot snacks and mulled wine. You can also rent a bicycle to go out on your own. Guided snowshoeing and snow scooter tours are also available.

Québec City Lights Festival

Taking on the winter, two wheels at a time

After opening its trails to the Segway 2×2 this summer, the Station touristique Duchesnay will make the same activity available as of January 2014. A special 3-km Segway trail through the forest will be groomed by snowmobile. A trip along the trail will last one hour and fifteen minutes.
