<p>Hi Paul,</p>
<p>The body holds much of the information we need to function at our best, but too often we ignore its messages and plow ahead with what our minds tell us. Perhaps because we’re not taught from early on to pay attention to, or trust, internal messages as well as external demands, we frequently ignore our body’s communications.</p>
<p>So we take another extra-strength aspirin rather than investigating what’s causing our head to ache. We use more caffeine or sugar to give us a lift when we feel tired, rather than hearing our body’s message about needing rest or recognizing our fatigue as an early symptom of burnout we’d do well to honor.</p>
<p>We fail to take into account the thousand little messages communicated to us by how we’re holding ourselves: the mouth that’s pinched and tight rather than relaxed. The fact that our shoulders are up around our ears, the knot of tension in our stomach as we promise to do something when closer consideration might tell us we are already over-extended.</p>
<p>These days we’re notorious for putting deadlines ahead of the protests of aching bones or inadequately nourished bellies. (Is there hidden wisdom in calling a due date a <em>deadline</em> in the first place?) Instead of asking our body what it wants, we go for the quick fill-up or the comfort food that may be the last thing we really need.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>So what to do to give your body an equal say in how you use it?</strong></em></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Start with the breath. </strong>Breathing consciously is a major part of body awareness. Turn off thoughts and just let yourself experience the inflow and outflow of breath. Label them, “In. Out. In. Out.” Note how and where you are breathing or failing to, a clear sign something important is going on.</p>
<p><strong>Allow yourself quiet time. </strong>Sit for ten minutes just observing yourself, even (especially!) in the middle of a busy day. Meditate. Take a walk or a nap. Allow time to do nothing. Soak in a hot tub rather than taking a quick shower.</p>
<p><strong>Get a massage.</strong> It’s not self-indulgence to be massaged; it wakes up the whole nervous system and helps you tune in.</p>
<p><strong>Use your journal to dialogue with your body.</strong> Ask your body how it’s feeling, what it wants, what’s going on. Give that healthy hunger or craving a voice and let it tell you what its message is. And practice listening!</p>
<p><strong>Do a body inventory to relax. </strong>Start with your toes and work upwards. Scan your body from the inside. Or try tensing each part slightly, then relaxing it to release residual tension.</p>
<p><strong>Practice mindfulness</strong>. Get used to tuning in to your physical self, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing.</p>
<p><strong>Take a walk in Nature, barefoot. </strong>Research teaches that contact with the earth offers amazing health benefits including lowering stress levels, improving sleep and circadian rhythms and decreasing chronic pain, inflammation and fatigue.</p>

Michelle Harris TV host of Alive and Well TV has tips on creating a spa day at home –how to create an oasis of relaxation and self-care in your own home.<br />
1.Spray your favorite aromatherapy mist or use a diffuser in the room you want to relax in.<br />
2.De-cluttering your space if needed for a more relaxing vibe.<br />
3.Get your fluffiest towels and robe together and add in some relaxing music.  This will give you that wonderful feeling of walking into a spa without leaving your home!<br />
4.Michelle recommends a pineapple-lemon- Black Elderberry wellness shot!  Pineapple juice is rich in digestive enzymes, lemon is wonderful at detoxification and Black Elderberry syrup is rich in immune supporting antioxidants (and it tastes great). It’s the perfect pick me up for an at home spa day.<br />
Quick homebased treatments:<br />
Home Facials:<br />
Regular facials are one of the keys to good skin. First, gently clean and exfoliate skin.<br />
Next, every facial needs a nice steam to clear pores. This can be as simple as putting your face over a container that has hot water steaming up.<br />
 After steaming, nothing feels better than a mask.<br />
Use a favorite brand or make a simple homemade hydrating mask with aloe, avocado and olive oil.<br />
Combine1 tsp fresh aloe, 1 tsp olive oil and ½ of a totally mashed avocado (it will stay on your face more easily). Apply and rinse after 10 minutes for glowing skin!<br />
The final step in any facial is serums and moisturizer. Apply them and your skin will look like you just left the spa.<br />
Happy Hands and Feet<br />
One of Michelle’s her favorite things when getting a spa treatment is those great gloves and/or booties they use with a rich moisturizer to keep your hands and feet soft.<br />
Wear them with a heavy-duty cream made for the body or hands and feet. Don’t forget the cuticles. Many creams made for the hands and feet will contain essential oils like peppermint.  This adds to the therapeutic benefit and smells incredible.<br />
Keep gloves or booties on for an hour while watching television, reading, or relaxing. For super soft hands and feet, wear gloves or booties to bed and wakeup with baby soft skin.<br />
Relaxing bubbles<br />
A tub full of bubbles is the perfect way to relax and feel calm.  Research even shows that taking a bath on occasion helps to decrease stress, fatigue and muscle pain.  Look for bubble baths with natural ingredients and essential oils. Ingredients like oatmeal and coconut are wonderful for soothing skin. Don’t forget to loofah and exfoliate skin while you soak.  Add a cup of your favorite herbal tea for even more relaxation.<br />

She runs weekly private classes in Los Angeles and also teaches workshops for a variety of organizations, including hospitals, wellness communities, universities, spas and corporations.</p>
<p>A Certified Life Coach, Danziger specializes in working with writers and artists on developing creativity and fulfilling their careers. Her clients include actors, artists, journalists, novelists, playwrights and screenwriters. An Emmy Award winning actress, Danziger has appeared extensively on and off-Broadway, on television, and in film. She is also the founder and former Artistic Director of the Actor&#8217;s Company Theatre in New York.</p>
<p>Diagnosed in 1994 with breast cancer, Danziger developed <em>Relax &amp; Write<img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2122.png" alt="™" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></em> as a part of her healing process. She soon realized its effectiveness and began sharing the process with others. A practicing Buddhist since 1979, she has received the Kalachakra Initiation from His Holiness the Dalai Lama twice as well as initiation in the Bon tradition from Geshe Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche and H.H. 33rd Menri Trizin Lungtok Tenpai Nyima, the spiritual leader of the Bon.</p>
