McDonald’s iconic Shamrock Shake is officially back at restaurants nationwide for a limited time, but this Shamrock season is extra special! Over the last 50 years, McDonald’s and Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) have partnered to ensure that families can stay together during some of their most difficult times.

To mark the next chapter of the Gift to RMHC® celebration, 25 cents from every Shamrock Shake sold at participating restaurants will support local RMHC families. And, because this moment is all about keeping families together, McDonald’s is reuniting two beloved members of the McDonald’s family for the first time in decades.  

Everyone’s favorite purple bestie, Grimace, recently discovered his family’s original Shamrock Shake recipe, sparking a reunion with his uncle, Uncle O’Grimacey. Uncle O’Grimacey will be touring the country with shakes in hand, championing support for RMHC families.

Here is how fans can support RMHC:

• For every Shamrock Shake purchased from Feb. 10 to Mar. 23, McDonald’s franchisees will donate 25 cents to RMHC with a goal of raising $5 million, which could provide 50,000 overnight stays for families staying at RMHC programs.

• Purchase limited-edition Uncle O’Grimacey merch available for pre-sale beginning on Feb. 4 at goldenarchesunlimited.com, and in the spirit of this campaign, McDonald’s will make an additional donation to RMHC.

• Help support a charity near and dear to Uncle O’Grimacey and Grimace by giving a direct gift to Ronald McDonald House Charities or Round-Up for RMHC at your local McDonald’s.

?New York, January 16, 2008 — One day prior to the retirement of his jersey number at Madison Square Garden, New York Rangers Legend Brian Leetch will lace up his skates to benefit a cause dear to him The Ronald McDonald House of New York. Leetch, along with fellow Ranger greats Mark Messier, Mike Richter, Jeff Beukeboom, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves and Stephane Matteau, will join fans at the 14th Annual Skate with the Greats event at The Rink at Rockefeller Center on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 6 9p.m. They will help raise money and awareness for The Ronald McDonald House of New York, a facility that offers children with cancer and their families shelter and support while they undergo treatment. While playing for the Rangers in 1995, Leetch, along with Rangers Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert, helped to spearhead the Skate with the Greats event, which has raised more than six million for The Ronald McDonald House of New York.

The Ronald McDonald House of New York is supported in part by the Rangers and a partnership with the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a non-profit charity that works closely with the Rangers and all areas of Madison Square Garden to make dreams come true for kids in crisis. This year’s benefit Chairman is Steve Bensinger. Prior to Skate with the Greats, media will have their only opportunity to speak with Leetch and other Rangers on hand about the team’s continued commitment to The Ronald McDonald House of New York. Ronald M. Caplan MD is an Obstetrician Gynecologist and medical author.

He did his medical and postgraduate training at McGill University, where his interest in renal disease in pregnancy and homotransplantation culminated in the first delivery of a baby from a mother who had received a deceased donor kidney transplant.

After serving on the Faculty of McGill University, he transferred to New York City, and a long career at the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University , where he became one of the early proponents of minimally invasive surgery, and where he is now Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Royal College of Surgeons (Canada).

He previously edited the textbooks Principles of Obstetrics, which was translated into both Spanish and Portuguese, and Advances in Obstetrics and Gynecology, which was translated into Spanish. He authored another four mass market medical books in multiple editions. Prestigious medical and comprehensive libraries around the world hold copies of his work.

What do STING & 36 Million Americans have in common?

Can you hear me now?  Apparently many cannot.  Hearing loss is reaching epidemic proportions— and not just among people who play their music too loud! According to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 36 million Americans already have some degree of hearing loss, and with 10,000 baby boomers turning 65 each day, that number is expected to skyrocket.  Experts predict that hearing loss will affect 78 million Americans by the year 2030.  Hearing loss is a critical public health issue! 

Listen up!  To kick off May, a new Hearing Loss Campaign will begin April 16th  which will encourage us all to get our hearing tested, and feature Sting and renowned trumpeter and song writer Chris Botti (both of whom know first-hand about the importance of hearing health) in a very special Public Service Announcement.  The Campaign is spearheaded by the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary (a world leader in the diagnosis and treatment of ear disorders) and will launch live, an educational website designed as a one-stop resource to help all adults take control of the hearing health (www.iLikeMyHearing.org) and a new Facebook site (fb.com/iLikeMyHearing) featuring a page for people to contribute their favorite sounds.  Visitors can enter a “Favorite Sounds Sweepstakes” with a $5000 value opportunity for the winner and ten friends to share dinner with Chris Botti at a November 15th fundraising gala.
